The Event
Is anyone watching The Event?
I have it building up on my TiVo, but I haven't watched any of the episodes yet. I'm (obviously) looking for a replacement for LOST. I don't really want to invest time in this if it doesn't look any good, so I'm hoping for some input from folks I trust before I start watching. |
It's not a bad show. The way it was hyped over the summer I was expecting it to be complete shit. The only real annoying thing to me is that it shows the same scene multiple times without adding enough context to the scene. It also doesn't seem to be as secretive as LOST but the way it jumps back in time I really don't think it's ever going to progress far into the future.

I'm really enjoying it. It's action packed, the actors are strong and the story is shaping up nicely IMHO.
A warning: This show is NOT Lost. Repeat that to yourself. This show is NOT Lost. Don't set yourself up for disappointment because it doesn't fit narrow expectations. It has more in common with shows like 24 and Daybreak. |
I think it is getting better. I was worried during the first show that they jumped forwards and backwards in time way too much.
I think it is more like The X-Files and 24. And the cast is better looking than Lost (which I never watched). |
So far, so good. Fun entertainment. Not necessarily something completely unlike anything I've ever seen; but fun.

I am tired of shows that just quit mid-season or do not get renewed, I will sadly wait until next year and see if it gets renewed before investing time to see it.

So far I've watched the first two episodes. Well, half of the second, incredibly boring. I don't think it was worth all of the hype. Yes, it's a fascinating storyline, but not presented well at all. The acting is over-dramatic and the special effects are worse than Babylon 5. I'll probably finish watching the episodes that are available on Hulu, but only if I run out of SGU reruns.

I like it. There may well be a deeper story line here than most of us suspect. It is one of the only programs I watch each week along with 3 others.
The concept that ET is here, the government knows, and keeps this from us is an old story line. The degree to which the US government is involved with unkind acts against the American people, like 9-11, is quite another consideration. So I am kind of waiting to see how they present all these various secret operations. John |
I record something else at the time it airs on the network. I noticed that Bravo was picking it up, and recorded the first 3 episodes; but it looks like Bravo stopped carrying it - at least Tivo says no upcoming episodes . . . .
So I'll probably just delete them. |
Not a brilliant or superb show, but it's a lot of fun and mostly well done, despite one or two horrific actors. I recall reading that NBC promised not to leave viewers hanging. Who knows? But then what can you expect from networks that haven't learned how to compete with the likes of HBO and AMC?

I've been watching for a few weeks now and I am enjoying the way the story is unfolding. I am hoping it gets really weird but I am not holding my breath.
|
Heh, I still haven't gotten around to starting it. I'm thinking that I just don't have the time for a serial these days.
