Glee!
I'll admit-- I didn't watch last fall. I hadn't even heard of the show until one of my coworkers asked if I'd seen it. When I said no, she was shocked. "You would LOVE it." So, she showed me a couple clips, I went home and watched a few episodes, and now--I'm hooked.
So, here we go. The Official Glee Thread! w00t! This week's episode (1.17 - Bad Reputation) is my favorite so far, although I'm disappointed that it didn't feature the song of the same name by Joan Jett-- would've been an awesome one for Quinn. However, I am in love with this: Definitely gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the week. Oh, and also? Joss Whedon is directing an episode (either next week or the week after...I forget which) and Neil Patrick Harris is guest starring. My inner fangirl just fainted. |
I recently watched all of the episodes from beginning to current. I was really moved by sectionals. Her solo after the other two schools used their setlist was great.
I am really glad the fake baby storyline is over. |
Me too! I'm not a fan of Terri at all, though...but apparently she's still contracted, so she may be making more appearances...hmph.
Oh, and the video doesn't work for Run Joey Run anymore...damn. Great song. Hilarious video. |
Oh Glee.. I love, LOVE glee!! I've watched it since the beginning and been a fan the whole time.. It's so good It's just so good! I love pretty much every song, and it just makes me so happy. Except i feel like a dumb ass becuase I thought Quinn's name was Quinnifa Bray, instead of Quinn Fabray. Haha.
|
 Nice, Salem. It totally bugged me when she was dating Finn, because, hello? Quinn & Finn? That's entirely too cutesy.
I was at Borders yesterday and came very close to buying a 4-disc DVD set of the first 13 episodes...I'd really rather have all the episodes together in one set, though. |
Soooo...this week's episode wasn't QUITE as epic as I thought it would be. Maybe built it up in my head a little too much. The pacing seemed slow, and there wasn't really all that much singing.
However...Matthew Morrison & Neil Patrick Harris singing "Dream On" as a duet was Really. Fucking. Awesome. |

I always thought NPH had a better voice than displayed here, and on the past award shows he's hosted. I guess I didn't realize his voice was as high as it is. BTW, I didn't check, but is the woman playing Lea Michele's mother her in a dual role? If not, they're awfully similar in appearance. |
No--that's Idina Menzel (Enchanted, Rent, various other Broadway productions.) She's the director of Vocal Adrenaline, a rival show choir.
They DO look an awful lot a like, and I suppose it makes for some good dramatic episodes...but I can't help but suspect she's faking this whole "mom" thing just to throw Rachel off her game. But maybe I'm just being cynical on that one. |
I wish I could get past ep2.
It's not that I don't like the show. I love the show. I have to watch it with my wife and mother in law and we've just not all had the time to do it. I'm really looking forward to watching the episodes tho. |
Our house is watching. Amazingly enough, we only appear to be about four weeks behind the US airdates. The Madonna episode just aired here.
So far I am not liking the second part of the season one as much as I did the first half but I'm not going to stop believing that it will get better... |
I finally got through Ep5, we watched 3 episodes tonight back to back to back. Looking forward to catching up as fast as we can.
|
I just read that Fox has already ordered season three (and season one is just wrapping up).
I have a feeling this series will jump the shark at some point in season two. Just a hunch. |
Tonight's episode could've been a big first step towards jumping the shark as far as I'm concerned. The deep pandering to Lady Gaga and the utterly ridiculous crap that ensued after Finn's use of the word "faggy" were the utter antithesis of the slightly surreal and very self-aware tone that's characterized the show thusfar.

The guys doing the KISS song in full makeup was pretty awesome, though :)
The last few eps have not had enough Brittany, in my opinion. Need. More. Brittany. |
I'm a new fan, too. Just started watching "Glee" the past few weeks and yep, I like it a bunch! It's got so much good music/singers in it. I was amazed.
What's the deal with Bob the piano player? Now....gotta rent the early ones or look online & get caught up to the current "stuff". |
I didn't love this show last season, but I've watched the last few to see Idina Menzel, whom I simply love.
I think the shows gotten better. I may have to give it another shot. Was last night's the season finale? |
Last nights was not the season finale. And I must say, I disagree. GLEE has recieved WAY too many positive reviews to be kicking hte bucket any tome soon. like you've said its alreayd got a 3rd season lined up, there's artists begging to have their songs in teh show, it's way too big. Its cheesy, its corny, soemtimes it's friggen ridiculous, but it's good. It's light hearted fun. I love it. I think it's gonna stick around.
Also, NPH wasn't brought to his full potential, no, but i'm incredibly stoked on Idina Menzel. Her apperance was noticed by TONS of us glee fans in the very beginning ( That's the first thing I said about Lea Michelle in the pilot was how much she looked liek Idina) and Idina actually contacted the producers or someone or whatever, and expressed interest in portraying Rachels bio-mom if they ever felt like it. So, voila!! I'm loving their story-line, though I'm kinda half bummed they arn't getting close and half stoked that that means they might later with the way things left off. We shall see I suppose. |
How much would I love if NPH had a recurring role? So frickin' much. Much as I loved Dream On, I'd love to see him do something more "in his wheelhouse" (to quote Kurt.)
I like Idina as Shelby, but I'll be honest--I'm tired of the Shelby/Rachel storyline. I also realize this may be because I'm not a Rachel fan. (Quoting again, this time Puck: "That Rachel chick makes me want to light myself on fire...but she can sing.") |
Rachel, Rachel, Rachel. You keep giving me more reasons to despise you. You're a complete prima donna, and a spoiled brat. Ugh.
Brittany, though, was pretty awesome in last night's ep. I knew she was a dancer, but damn. She definitely got to show off her moves. |
your attached vid isn't working in your OP by the way.
I haven't seen this show, but did catch a segment where a guy was singing Kiss' Beth. Made me listen to it. So maybe I will try to catch more of it. I noticed that Ikea has a commercial now that (to me) seems to riff Glee using Lionel Richie's Hello. |
Yeaaah, I noticed that a couple posts down, but at the time, there wasn't another video available. Fixed now, though. :)
|
The people in Cary that watch Glee also watch "America's Got Talent" or "Dancing with the Stars" so I neither associate with them nor tell anyone I am an avid fan of it.
|
When I was in choir in high school, there was no auto-tune.
There was an Asian kid that can pop and lock, though. |
I'm seeing a lot of press about celebrity guest stars on the show. Do you avid fans feel that they are taking away from the original heart of the show or is the stunt casting working for you?
|
It depends on the storyline. I thought Kristin Chenowith's arc was completely stupid, and therefore was glad to see her go (even though I like her outside the show.) Eve played a rival glee club coach, which was cool. So did Idina Menzel, which was NOT cool (her story arc involved being Rachel's birth mother, which felt a little too "Lifetime Movie" for me.)
|
I'm not a huge fan, but I do like it. Some songs are hit or miss. Sometimes it gets a little too campy for me.
One big question though...they're already Jrs and Seniors in high school right? How are they going to do season 3? Are they all going to go to the same college? |

We were a show choir family growing up. All three of us siblings were in competition choirs through junior high and high school. My sis was the one who forced me to watch the pilot. She had been talking it up for nearly 6 months before it actually came out. I'm ashamed to admit that I've been watching it ever since.
I usually don't catch the episodes as soon as they come out, but I do end up watching them on Hulu eventually. Whenever Rachel sings I tend to mute it, really not a fan of her voice. The show actually comes in handy when relating to the new undergrads in our lab. They listen to the music and talk about the show regularly. |

Yep. Finn started basketball at some point last season, and I remember Will saying something about having a great summer.
I watched the first season all online, so I don't know how closely they follow "real" time. If they can somehow swing it so Nationals happens in say...January or February...maybe they'll get two seasons out of one year? Then again, I remember Finn saying something about being 16...so maybe they're only juniors THIS year (with Rachel being a sophomore)? That really doesn't make sense with the whole "most popular couple in school" and the references to homecoming king & queen when it comes to Finn & Quinn, though.....hmmmmm.... |
Been catching up on episodes today (A Night of Neglect, Born This Way, and watching Rumours now.) I was getting annoyed, and frankly, a little bored with the characters. Some time away helped a bit.
I REALLY wish they'd stop bringing Kristin Chenoweth back, though. She has a nice voice and all, but her character, and how they fit her into the show, is ridiculous. On the other hand, an episode full of Fleetwood Mac songs is pretty damn awesome. |
