Name your favourite movies starring machines!
You know this is a kind of subgenre. A movie that is billed as an action film, but it's something more specific: it features machines...and rather prominently. Whether it's cars, planes, or trains, these machines are so much the focus that they should be the stars.
Some of these movies may suffer on the level of film appreciation, but they have their value in showcasing expensive toys. Some of my favourites that come to mind are as follows. But I'd really like to hear yours, because I'm sure I'm missing out on the good ones.
What are your favourites? |
The original Gone in Sixty Seconds. Starring that beautiful '73 Mustang.
Christine. The 58 fury plays the jealous, murderous mistress in a horror flick. That's all I got for now, I'm sure I'll remember something else later. I agree about needing more films with flying machines. Recent fliers have been pretty lame and too sci-fi. |
The truck in Duel comes to my mind quickly.
edit: the Amtrak train in the 1990 remake of Narrow Margin would qualify as well I believe. |
The car in The Car
It's scared the hell out of me when I saw it on TV as a kid. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/63...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg I'll think of some more later. EDIT............ And Star Wars of course. It defined space ships, weapons and corridors for a generation. |
i have never been into action movies..or sci-fi..but if i had to choose one..
Robocop half man/half machine i saw it hundreds of times as a kid |
Sunshine. That damn space-ship is awe-inspiring.

The Terminator movies.
"WALL-E" "Star Wars" movies "Star Trek" movies "Silver Streak" was a train. "Murder on the Orient Express" was a train, and it had murder!! "Return to Macon County" had some nice cars in it. The movie "Condorman" was only good because of his spycar. "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" the titular flying car "Dazed and Confused" a whole bunch of cars and trucks from the 70's and earlier. "American Graffiti" a whole bunch of cars from the 50's and earlier. |
|
Terminator 2: Judgment Day. IMO the best action movie ever made even today.

Cybernetic infiltration unit / assassin with hyper alloy combat chassis that looks like a bodybuilder with an Austrian accent. Has odd penchant for old school biker outfits and wields a GE minigun in bare hands. Also says, "Chill out, dickwad." |
Woody Allen's Sleeper. It's AAAAAALL about the Orgasmatron.

Charlatan and m0rpheus: those are superb ways of seeing things, and I wish I could've been that cunning.

We can't leave out mentioning Han Solo's Millenium Falcon from Star Wars , the ship that "made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs." |
