I hit Walmart yesterday and purchased a few DVD collections. 3 are Looney Tunes (Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Road Runner, etc.) and one is Tom & Jerry. As soon as I started watching them at home, the most amazing feeling of contentment washed over me. I was 7 again. Not a care in the world. Before I knew it, my legs were hanging over the side of the couch and I was sorta upside down, eating dry Cocoa Pebbles. Bliss.

I now plan on buying loads more DVD's of cartoons from when I was a kid. I highly recommend everyone do this! I think the key thing is to make sure to watch them when no one's around - zero distractions. Get in touch with your inner kid again, etc. Instant happiness!

What cartoons did it for you when you were a kid? Whatever they are, buy the DVD's and skip the therapist!

I recently loaded The Neverending Story onto my iPod. I hadn't seen that film since the '80s on VHS. As soon as I heard the opening bars of that theme song with the backdrop of those fantastical rolling clouds, it was like, as you imply, a drug.

You're right. We should do more of this. I'll have to look into DVDs of the Muppet Show. Looney Tunes would be good for me as well, as would be The Mighty Hercules series.

I do the exact same thing. It makes me not think about the stressful things and just be a kid again. I think me and my kids bond while watching cartoons too. My favorite it Tom and Jerry.:thumbsup:

I remember this same thing happening to me when the Pinky and The Brain DVDs were released a couple years ago.

DaniGirl, I'm surprised you don't know the entire lineup of the Noggin channel. My niece got me hooked on them as soon as I started babysitting again.

To chime in with my story
 

Short of finding a VHS/DVD album of classic cartoons in some retail outlet, (which is easier said than done 5-10 years ago) or subscribing to the Boomerang channel, it was slim-pickings to be able to enjoy good ol' nostalgia of those Saturday morning rituals we all so dearly partook and reveled in weekly a lifetime ago.

Time passed, with that thought in mind occasionally nagging me to do something about it. So, it was a couple years ago that I had discovered Looney Tunes had its own site with online watchable videos, (which can now be found here, and the layout has changed drastically since my last visit) and to tell you that I was content with this revelation is beyond words. It was a flood of good feelings and laughter I had long since forgotten until I lived it all over again. Later, I found a backdoor into the site, which allowed me to download the videos that were being streamed. So, I loaded up about 50 or so cartoons, and transferred them to an iPod and it was good times from there on in. As it is now, I'd love to trawl Amazon for classic Popeye movies that I had on VHS, and upgrade to DVD if they have produced them.

I'm a guy who loved his daily characters in cartoons, and would give just about anything to be able to reconnect with them again. :surprised:

Looney Tunes, Ducktales, Tale Spin, Animaniacs, Tom & Jerry, Gummi Bears, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Thundercats, Transformers, Ren & Stimpy, Smurfs.. seriously..nobody has mentioned the mother fucking blue midgets?? The list could go on forever.. I'm just glad that I'm introducing my kids to these good ol' classics..they now enjoy them more than the crap that's on now.

In the $5 bin, I passed on a collection of 600 cartoons. It was Betty Boop, Casper, Superman, Popeye and a couple others. I need to see if I can grab that tomorrow. I'm sure it sucks for it to be $5 but still - it's cartoons lol.

I recently bought a DVD collection of the 1940's Fleischer Superman cartoons from Amazon.
While not the Superfriends from my childhood, they are definitely superior cartoons.

Id like to find something on how cartoons are made over the years. The animation seemed to get pretty crappy in the 60s to early 80s. Im sure computers have helped with the newer ones, but still, its people drawing images when you come down to it.

I love the original Spiderman cartoons. They were produced by the same company that made Rocket Robin Hood. They did a lot of the post production in Toronto and the voice of Spiderman is a Toronto actor.

Darnit. I just noticed that nearly all the "bears" I loved were produced outside the country.

Wojtek, the soldier bear: Poland (not a cartoon, but still a major childhood feelgood story)


Only Yogi Bear was produced in America, and I consider him low-rent. Stealing "pik-a-nik" baskets? Please, you can knock down trees, Yogi!

I posted the theme to Jeremy a couple of weeks ago.....most people had no clue what it was (I think), guess the show was a Canadian thing to watch. (other than the French watching Colargol or the Brits and Barnaby)

Fables of the Green Forest was the shit, got to find some eps of that. I miss Today's Special as well, though I guess that isn't a cartoon.

What about Dr. Snuggles? Everyone on that show had eyes like they were tripping balls.

I suggest you subscribe to a TV provider that has the Boomerang network. 24-7 commercial free old Hanna-Barbara catalogue cartoons. Johnny Quest, Atom Ant, Jetsons, Flinstones, Ricochet Rabbit, Top Cat, and the like.

It is awesome.

and Boomerang On Demand is worth every cent. ;)
