Whats your favorite show that was cancled before the end of the first season

Okay this is inspired by Marcopolos favorite long running show thread. While posting there I thought of several good ones that were never given a chance. I am going to say the clerks animated series (just should never have been put on abc) and downtown (mtv cartoon from a few years ago)

mercury-hg 04-21-2003 10:28 AM

The Dana Carvey Show!!!!

dragonhawk 04-21-2003 10:33 AM

Miracles
Veritas: The Quest

Grondar 04-21-2003 12:41 PM

I like Push, Nevada, but then I missed an episode or two and got lost.

Probably the same reason it was taken off the air.. Too hard to follow, even if you miss just one episode.

I think they finished it out, only because they were legally bound to, due to the reward prize they offered to a viewer that solved it.

Jeff 04-21-2003 12:59 PM

Clone High on MTV. I thought this show was brilliant. Those bastards at MTV wouldn't know good TV if it kicked them in the crotch.

K-Billy 04-21-2003 01:17 PM

Clerks. The DVD with all the episodes was great. ABC ruined the series by showing the episodes outta order.

KillerYoda 04-21-2003 01:43 PM

Definately Clerks, they purposely ran than one into the ground. ABC put it up against the first season of Survivor, for fuck's sake.

HugAPug 04-21-2003 02:41 PM

The Michael Richards show. Sure it wasn't very good, but it was Kramer. Sorta.

WildZero 04-21-2003 03:29 PM

TV Funhouse...it was on Comedy Central, but only made it to eight episodes.

BBtB 04-21-2003 04:33 PM

TV funhouse was good. I heard a rumor back before it was cancled that they were going to make new episodes do out in 2003(!) but I doubt that info was correct

thebigk 04-21-2003 05:41 PM

Police Squad. Back when Leslie Neilsen and Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker were still funny. 6 episodes with great running gags.

MahlerIsGod 04-21-2003 06:13 PM

Even if this doesn't count because it actually made to a full season but Space: Above and Beyond was one of the best shows on TV. Ever.

LordEden 04-21-2003 06:14 PM

TV Funhouse and Clerks, I've downloaded the eps of clerks, but I want them on DVD.

Hitchcock 04-21-2003 07:19 PM

Roar. It broke my heart to see that show end so quickly!

Umm, Clone High isn't over. At the end of the last episode (ep 13) they mentioned next seasion. It was just not a full season thing. Most things on MTv aren't.

monody 04-22-2003 05:34 AM

Birds of Prey.

True, it was a little 'girl-power' and a little touchy-feely, but i firmly believe they would have outgrown it...

Cynthetiq 04-22-2003 07:04 AM

Nowhere Man.... thought it was quite interesting.

NoCure 04-22-2003 09:04 AM

Clerks and if Greg the Bunny counts then I'll pick that one too

diergray 04-22-2003 04:49 PM

Man from Atlantis!

GeneralApathy 04-22-2003 05:24 PM

Ditto on Firefly. FOX killed that in favor of crap like Fastlane.

i was going to say police squad. but you beat me too it. :D

Mutant X 04-22-2003 07:33 PM

Clerks

yournamehere 04-22-2003 08:35 PM

I think it may have lasted more than a season (so hard to tell nowadays with all the midseason replacements) but I couldn't believe they cancelled Sportsnight - it was one of the quickest, intelligent, and witty shows on television. The writing and acting were genius.

rs8001 04-23-2003 03:45 AM

The Pat Sajak show. NOT!!

The one starring Chris Elliott - I think it was called "Get a Life". Pretty stupid moronic humour. I can see why it didn't last. A couple of the episodes had me rolling on the floor for the whole time.....well at least for 25 minutes.

WhoaitsZ 04-23-2003 05:20 PM

The Tick - live action. it was fucking h a l a r i o u s but it was pulled.

greg the bunny was terrific, too.

Spinach_Indeed 04-23-2003 05:39 PM

I agree. The Tick live action was Terrific, and Greg the Bunny was great too.

quest1mark 04-23-2003 07:53 PM

andy richter controls the universe....TWICE! i dont know if they actually cancelled it the first time, but every time fox airs the show, they air like 3 episodes and somehow its the end of the season...

i think they finally cancelled it though. what a shame...andy richter is freakin hilarious

Tophat665 04-23-2003 08:21 PM

Definitely the Tick. What cruel irony that the episode that was to have played the night of 9/11 was titled "The Terror".

Ganguro 04-24-2003 05:43 AM

Read or Die, or Blue Submarine 6.
Hell a lot of anime is meant to made into a whole series, but turns into OVA's because of budget contraints. *pout*

Another vote would be for Greg the bunny. I have all those on DVD, even though i had to make it myself... :)
Clerks was pretty good too.. Though I can understand ABC's point; It does cost a lot to make a cartoon, and if no one is watching that's money that can be spent on other projects.

I believe Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy and Angel) will be shopping this around to other networks.

It was a fun show, that Fox murdered.

Hate to break it to you, but Firefly is dead and gone. No chance of revival anywhere. Too bad, cause it was better that 80% of the dreck Fox throws at our screens nightly.

The good news is that Whedon's planning a Firefly DVD with all the shows, in the correct order, including those that didn't make it to air.

i pretty sure that this lasted more than one season. You can even buy them on DVD http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...374868-2723064

JumpinJesus 04-24-2003 02:30 PM

Freakylinks on Fox about 2 years ago. Ethan Embry played a webmaster of a site that investigated and then chronicled Art Bell type stuff. I enjoyed it but it only lasted about 6 or 7 episodes.

bryanzera 04-24-2003 03:13 PM

Three words. Greg. The. Bunny.

fugue_life 04-25-2003 11:03 AM

I thinkI would cry if clone high was gone already. Downtown was good and i wish they would start that back up again. I used to like Dead at 21 but I was only like 13 when that was on so if I watched it again Im sure I would think it was crap now. But my nod has to go to ABC's Cupid from a few years ago starring Jeremy Piven. It was cheesy as well but liked it.

forseti-6 04-25-2003 01:45 PM

What about "Freaks and Geeks"? I'm not actually sure if that finished the first season or not.

kgb 04-25-2003 11:31 PM

What was that show about college that FOX had on for awhile? I think it went about a year and a half. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but I thought it was really good.

BubblegumTeflon 04-26-2003 09:39 AM

Did the Critic last a full season? that show was so great, I would pick that one if it didn't.

gco12586 05-01-2003 02:58 PM

I don't think this lasted a whole season (was quite some time ago) but there was a comedy with Richard Mulligan called The Hero (or perhaps just plain Hero) -- it was hilarious. And short lived.

heyal256 05-02-2003 07:39 PM

I don't know if anybody else has heard of this show but there was a show on fox that aired before x-files (when it was still on friday nights) called Strange Luck. It was basically about a guy who managed to get caught up in situations because of his strange luck.
Another show that probably died before it had a chance was a show called profit, where you actually wanted to root for the bad guy.

alpha 05-03-2003 07:41 AM

i really liked a show called Pasadena, that only ran for a few episodes.. too bad.

Hedgehog 05-03-2003 08:04 PM

God damn Fox execs for canning the Tick. It was the best show they had and they intentionally killed it by moving it to a different night and timeslot every week.

SPOOOOOOONNNN!

Actually Get a Life ran for two seasons, from late '90 to 1992. :D
and the Tick was IMO one of the best shows running. maybe a bit too hard to get into for non-comic geeks/superhero lovers but whatever.
'Not in the face!'

Lassus 05-04-2003 09:08 AM

Hellsing lol i know its anime but i mean common 13 epsoides just anit enough to do that show justice <same with read or die>

Sun Tzu 05-04-2003 09:58 AM

Candid Camera and similiar type of shows. Scare tactics is out right now which has its moments. These shows never seem to last, but I think are hilarious.

OMG! I 'm so glad someone remembered this show! I loved it, they tried to bring it back once and they cancelled it again! That was such a great show, it was funny and had great acting and everything. Not to mention it had the hot guy that played James Dean and the kid from City By The Sea. AW man was he hot!

I also miss greg the bunny, that was a hilarious show.

SL was my fave show ever until Millenium came along.

SL did end....... but its a fuzzy memory. he finds his dad...... that's all i remember.

dolemite175 05-05-2003 05:37 PM

Firefly, for sure. Luckily I have heard that they are bringing the whole first season (including unaired episodes) to DVD.

bondagegirl 05-07-2003 06:32 PM

Hey I thought of another show, that I don't see any more on Fox. Titus Does anyone remeber that show? I thought it could be pretty damn funny sometimes!

Tempboy 05-07-2003 08:42 PM

I second Space: Above and Beyond, even though it made it for a full season.

Fox sucks.. they always cancel the best shows (SAAB, Millennium, Family Guy)

Gambit 05-08-2003 03:37 AM

I think it reached the end of its first season, but Freaks and Geeks was teh best show on TV at its time! I MISS it so much!
I also have to agree on Birds of Prey. I they had gotten maybe a few more cool guest shots (maybe Green Arrow or Nightwing) it could have helped. Oh well.
Oh, and Ganguro...Read or Die ROCKS! Domestic version is finally coming out soon!

Gambit 05-08-2003 03:38 AM

Oh wait! I forgot Action, starring Jay Mohr. Once again, FOX execs at work....grrrrrrr

Grimlok 05-08-2003 06:34 AM

There was a show in the early 80's, maybe late 70's called THE NUTHOUSE. About a hotel ran by crazy people....

I just remember the crazy doorman. They had a revolving door and he's always say... "ALLOW ME TO HOLD THE DOOR FOR YOU."

Well people would just walk into the revolving door and he'd HOLD it and they'd just run into it and drop everything they had... (it's funnier when you see it.. trust me.)

Also... The Tick. I was a big fan anyway and I was shocked at the job they did.

Titus is still on TV I think...
The Critic still lives on Comedy Central

bryce1131 05-08-2003 09:40 AM

Titus can't still be on. Didn't the girlfriend go to the Drew Carey Show?

Strelich 05-12-2003 10:39 PM

In my head, too many.

The Lone Gunman was my top pick, and I'll never forgive Chris Carter for killing them off in the X-Files.

Oh, and Firefly, Miracles, and Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Those four really get me, and I mean *really* get to me.
