Which of the Endless would you be?
I have read Neil Gaiman's The Sandman a number of times - the whole series that is, and sometimes I'll take a break and wonder, "Which of the seven? Which of the Seven?" Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Despair, Desire or Delirium?
Rarely do I pick Death. Something about living in that much non-reality. I don't know. It's just not me. Some times I choose Death. She has so many people to see, places to go, stories to end and what can I say? I'm a people person. But mostly I pick Delirium. It really has nothing to do with her once being Delight, but almost everything to do with fish and butterflies. The youngest (in my experience) is gonna be misunderstood and she deals with the frustration (and fear - mostly of Dream) pretty good - all things considered. EDIT: And how could I forget: I love the fact that the only thing about her that is always the same is her eye color - one blue and one green. :) Now, I know I can't be the only person who has read these books and wondered this same thing - can I? So now I pose the question to you. Which would be, if you could be one, and why? This should be fun. |
Death, simply because she always was the most cheerful and most connected with humanity.
And I think Delirium could make her eyes the same colour if she really tried. |
I haven't the slightest clue what book you speak of here, but I'm sure I would be destruction!

Dream, definitely. I see people's hopes, their fears, their desires. I see how they shape reality within them. What comes from the dreams of others often serves as the scaffold for me to construct new things in my own world. Through the respite I provide, I calm those around me.
No question. Morpheus. |
Spoiler:
When Dream first finds out his fate from Destiny (when Dream and Delirium are searching for Destruction), Dream breaks down... and Delirium's eyes go the same colour as she holds him together... Dream notices and is shocked and she tells him that she can do it when she wants to but it hurts, and he somewhat pulls himself out of it, and she slips back into character again.... edit - spoiler tags |

To me Destruction, mainly for the same reason that you choose Death. He's the one that gets the fact that he isn't needed anymore and that people will create or destroy without him. Instead he decides to live his life on his own terms. He's one of the most caring of the Endless (see his conversation with Dream in the last trade). Although, if I were to really have to choose one character from Sandman (not just The Endless) that I really truly identify with it's Hob Gadling. After all, death's a mug's game. |

I like Mad Hattie, too. I think it'd be cool to spend a day in her shoes. But you don't really hear about her much until "Death: The TIme of Your Life." Edit: he not her |
