Hey, my first computer was a Commodore 64, man. I was 5 years old. Rock on!!! :)

There was a theatre in Scarborough called the Bijou, it was located in a strip mall where Morningside Mall is now located (or have they torn it down yet?).

On weekends they would play these very cool older films. I remember catching Sinbad there (loved the skeltons), Three Stooges meet Hercules, something with Laurel and Hardy and other older films. I was in grade one or two at the time.

As for the whole World of Disney thing... I mentioned that before and have to agree that Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was cool... but in Canada, it was what followed The Wonderful World of Disney that was cooler... The Beachcombers!

There was movie called Now you see it, Now you don't that I apparently used to watch at least twice a day for almost a year. I can't seem to find it on IMDB tho.

Disney's Peter Pan was another favourite.

Sinbad? I saw that one at the Towne Theatre in Huntsville, Texas. It also showed older Kinderkino.

You would probably know better than i wouild, but there must have been something about the economics of movie distribution and movie houses that allowed places like that pop up in the '70s. Student cinema societies were also part of that network of gazillionth-run theatres. This was well into the era of television, though a bit before VCRs became ubiquitous.

I really loved, and still do love the old Harryhausen movies. Sinbad, Mysterious Island etc...

Lessee... there was Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, TMNT, most of the Disney stuff coming out at the time, Willow, Labyrinth, and so on. I remember thinking Top Gun was the coolest thing ever and having a 'flight jacket' that I wore because I thought it was just like the movie.

And yeah, for computers I've used em all right down to the VIC-20 and Apple IIc.

Dr. Zhivago will always be the best movie from my childhood.
I remember driving with my parents to San Francisco to see it as soon as it was released.
I had the soundtrack and I played it on my little mono record player until I wore it out.
After seeing the movie I read the book at a very early age and recently I just picked up the tattered old paperback with yellowed pages to read again.

As a kid, Rocky 2 and Rocky 4 may be the best. In 4, Apollo Creed dying and Rocky avenging his death by beating Dolph Lundgren, the evil communist. Very entertaining! As an adult, Rocky 1 is the best. Rocky is an ignorant loser, muscle for criminals. He redeems himself by losing against Apollo Creed.

I just remembered two films. They are oriented towards an adult audience (no not pornos), but I loved them as a kid and even know felt the messages in the movies were understandable even to a child.

My family watched Popeye together two weeks ago. Robin Williams with those giant forearms! It reminded me of this thread. My kids (6 and 2) liked it. I remember liking it when I saw it in the theater with my father. This viewing, I thought that it was dull.

Besides those listed, I actually watched a lot of movies that probably weren't so kid friendly. My parents didn't censor my viewing all that much. I wasn't allowed to watch EVERYTHING, but I think after I slept through the night after having a horror movie night with my brothers, my mother thought I could handle it.

So what, Jim Hensen and Ray Harryhausen dominated my list, they deserve it!

I guess I could also go with movies like The Neverending story, Monster Squad or Little Monsters or The Wizard(Man It was so cool seeing Mario on the big screen) but those movies have kind of fallen out of my favorites.

Noodle... I would kill for an autographed copy of the original Black Stallion. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford to buy the books, but I read (and re-read and re-read) every one the library had. I was a young adult when the movie came out. In the movie, when Coppola cut away from the big match race back to when Alec was riding the Black on the beach, I could have easily done him physical harm. The most intense part of the movie & he pulled that artistic shit? I glanced over right then at my wife's (then gf) young brother, who we'd brought with us. He was looking at me wide-eyed. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat, leaning forward, breathing hard. MY kids love the movie (and books).

The Princess Bride, although again I was an adult when it came out.

The original Disney 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (first movie I ever saw in a theatre, in a re-release).

And the greatest movie of all time, still the reigning champion:

The movie had these like, big bird people who were the bad guys. And they were after 'the essence' of the little fairy-type people...

Dammit! I watched this constantly as a kid - was always on HBO. Very fantasy'ish like Neverending Story. But darker. Someone help!
