Funniest scene in a movie ???
The part in Miller's Crossing, when the mob boss smacks his kid (who starts crying), and to console him says, "Awww... did somebody hit you?" He says it so seriously.
|
This, too, sounds familiar.
Jazz? |
During the big chase scene at the end of Moving Violations, a Mascot Duck gets knocked off a parade float and wails in a Donald Duck kind of voice: "OH, SHIT!".
22 years later and I'm still laughing. They just don't write comedy like that anymore. |
One of my favorite funny scenes comes from "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"
Del (John Candy) is driving late at night and Neal (Steve Martin) is sleeping. Del gets his coat caught and in the process of trying to release it does a complete 180 on an on ramp. They end up driving down the interstate in the wrong direction. A car, across the median, sees them and starts shouting "Hey, you're going the wrong way!" Del wakes up and hears them, then turns to Neal and says "they say we're going the wrong way?" Neal replies "how the hell do they know where we're going?" "Ya, how would they know that?" Seconds later they're looking at the oncoming headlights of two semi trucks. Sparks fly, Neal sees Del as the devil and then they both, briefly, turn into skeletons. |
One of my favorite movies is Casablanca. Three of my favorite exchanges in the movie are...
Captain Renault: Rick, there are many exit visas sold in this café, but we know that you've never sold one. That is the reason we permit you to remain open. Rick: Oh? I thought it was because I let you win at roulette. Captain Renault: That is another reason. followed by [as he goes to hand Renault a bribe] Jan Brandel: Captain Renault... may I? Captain Renault: Oh no! Not here please! Come to my office tomorrow morning. We'll do everything businesslike. Jan Brandel: We'll be there at six! Captain Renault: I'll be there at ten. and finally Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds? Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [a croupier hands Renault a pile of money] Croupier: Your winnings, sir. Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much. [aloud] Captain Renault: Everybody out at once! God Claude Rains is so good in that movie. |
So many classic moments, and I usually hate mindless comedy, but for some reason when I think of that laughing-so-hard-I'm-crying moment, I think of this:
|
Fish Called Wanda, when the doberman snatches up the little dog.
|
5) In "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery", Dr. Evil and Scott Evil in group therapy. Gets me every time.
4) In "The Man with Two Brains", Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (Steve Martin) is looking for a suitable vessel for the brain he loves, and comes across a gorgeous blonde with one of the most annoying voices ever. To hear her singing... 3) in "Wedding Crashers", Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) has just realized that Gloria Cleary (Isla Fisher) ISN'T a virgin and he kinda likes it and has this hilarious conversation with Father O'Neil (Henry Gibson). 2) In Thank You for Smoking, Rob Lowe plays Jeff Megall who is one of the funniest characters I've ever seen. 1) In Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is peeing in a hotel bathroom when he turns to see a corpse in the shower. He turns and accidentally pees on it. Freaked, he calls P.I. Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) to explain what happened. What follows is the funniest conversation in movie history. Mention of "faun" gloves usually makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. |
Chevy Chase AKA "Clark Griswold" has two of my favorite funny movie quotes in "Christmas Vacation:"
Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse. And... Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol? And the scene where he sleds down the mountain and ends up in the Wal-Mart parking lot gets me everytime. |
The one scene I can remember off of the top of my head that had me in tears was the opening scene in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. The one where Ace is "undercover" as the courier. "H.D.S coming through, got a package people!!" It was simple, yet ridiculous--it's the classic Jim Carrey comedic presence that made him famous.
EDIT: Tully, those are classic. |
Austin Powers, Int'l Man of Mystery: the double-take Dr. Evil does when the door opens to reveal Mini-Me for the first time is maybe the best double-take anywhere, ever.
Cracks me up every time. |
Talledega Nights: "Oh God, don't let the invisible fire burn up my friend!"
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb: Where does one start? "Gentlemen there's no fighting in here-- this is the War Room!" "He was taking pictures of the big board!" "It's good to be fine." "I realized this during the physical act of love." "Mein Führer, I can walk!" |
You can't go passed a fart joke. In blazing saddles the cowboys sitting around the campfire eating beans has me smiling just thinking about it.
jewels443 - dunno maybe that is a chick one - because I did not even smile during that youtube clip. Maybe humour really is personal :) |

It was on HBO here a few weeks ago and I made my kids watch it. They failed to see the humour. |
Perhaps a bit obvious, but some scenes are legendary for a reason.
The scene in This is Spinal Tap when the fake Stonehenge is lowered from the ceiling - and it is 12 times too small. The amazing thing about that scene is that you see it coming all the way, but it is still so astoundingly funny when it happens. |
this thread has me laughing so hard, its redicuous.
Okay, i love this one scene from evil dead 2 where ash (bruce campbell) after undergoing all these horrors has his attention obtained by a mounted moose head. This moose starts laughing hysterically. The moose is soon joined by a lamp, a bookcase, and other items around the house. Now, what has me still laughing after all these years is the part where he notices a lamp that laughs a lot like popeye, bobbing up and down. After much insane laughter from the crazed ash, he backs up to the lamp, notices it, and becomes amused. After a bit of laughter he starts imitating the lamp for a bit, they both pause, and break out in laughter again. Guess you got to watch it to appreciate it soooo…. yeah, whenever i feel down i just think of popeye lamp. |
I...drink...your MILKSHAKE!!!!!

I always find the montage in Remember the Titans hilarious; three signs, one shot of someone writing "Titans Eat Free!!", the next is Gerry and Blue folding pancakes and stuffing their faces, then finishing with the woman erasing "free" to have the sign read "Titans Eat". Very funny.

Johnny Mnemonic. A goldmine of unintentionally funny moments. |
You're sitting in the theatre, the lights go down, the previews roll, the screen goes dark and on comes an anchorman sitting at his desk and reading the teaser for the news: "The Popcorn you're eating has been pissed in. Film at 11." Then the opening credits to the Kentucky Fried Movie roll.
"The William J. LePetomaine Thruway? What'll that Asshole think of next? Anybody got a dime? Hell, somebody's gonna have to ride back and get us a shitload of dimes." "It's twue, oh it's twue!" The original producers - Frankly just about every scene, but in particular the Scene where Franz Liebkind explains to the audience that this is not the play he wrote and the scene where Max ropes Leo into the idea in the first place. Murder by Death has some great one liners: "Room full of empty people," and, "Answer easy, question very hard," and, "You've never had it til you've had it with a big fat blondie waitress." The scene in the Pink Panther Strikes Again where Clouseau gains entrance to the castle posing as a dentist, gets Dreyfuss all giggly on laughing gas and pulls the wrong tooth. The Opening Scene in the South Park movie which is a straight parody of the opening number in Beauty and the Beast. |
nothing to say

95% of half baked, i knwo thats sort of a cop out but seriously i cannot stop laughing anytime i watch that movie
|
Not really the funniest scene ever but notable because it was the only funny scene in Bruce Almighty. I love Steve Carell, it's a shame the sequel sucked. Anyway, it still makes me crack up every time.
I also love the Supertroopers intro from the typical stoner conversation to the cop car braking then peeling out going backwards. Oh, I almost forgot, classic scene from a classic movie with some biting political satire. |
In thhe life of Brian, the gaggle of Messiah Junkies catch up to Brian who has just fallen into in Terry Jones' hermitage. He claims not to be the Messiah. Carol Cleveland says, "Only the true Messiah would claim not to be the Messiah."
Brian (Graham Chapman): Well what kind of change does that give a fellow. OK I am the Messiah. Crowd: The Messiah! The Messiah! Brian: Now FUCK OFF! ...Silence... John Cleese: How should we fuck off, O' Lord? |
Some of my picks are numerous W.C. Fields moments and of course bountiful Marx Brothers scenes. The classic 'Viaduct' scene in The Cocoanuts, Margaret Dumont in practically any appearance she had playing the straight-laced role against Groucho, Watching an opera disingrate into medlam, and of course the wonderful zingers Groucho throws out there in every film, the list goes on.
"We left New York drunk and early" "I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How it got in my pajamas I'll never know." ....... |

I haven't fully read through, but I had to add this before I forgot: In the original Vacation, the family is driving along, and the scene is one of domestic bliss, as the camera pans around the car and each member of the Girswalds is peacefully sleeping. The camera finally ends up on Clark, the driver, who is also peacefully slumbering away. Then the car crashes through the hiway barrier and comes to a crashing halt. As the family awakens, Chevy Chase delivers a line in his classic deadpan. Something along the lines of "We're here". pure comedic genious. |

An older film - The Out-of-Towners with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis has so many great rollicking scenes that I need tissue to keep watching or else spit, snot, and tears are flying.

i love the whole of the big lebowski too.
but this scene from the hudsucker proxy is hilarious my favorite comedy is probably monsieur hulot's vacation. just everything. here's a clip: not sure it communicates why i like this film so much. mostly, its the pace, sound----and m. hulot himself. |

The Party. Period.
Specifically: Birdie num num. |
I loves Hudsucker Proxy.
