Freddy vs. Jason: The movie

Well, after going to the movies this weekend I saw a trailer that blew my mind. It was the trailer for none other than.... Freddy vs. Jason. Anyone remember the buzz of this movie made when it was first mentioned back in the early '90s. Isn't it amazing that about 10 years after it was first mentioned it is being made/released in theaters... Anyway, I have long thought this was just another bit of Hollywood folk lore. Another movie that had be talked about but put in the trashcan to never come out and leave people wondering if the rumors were ever true in the first place (Duke Nukem anyone?).

For all you Freddy fans Robert Englund is returning as Mr. Krueger and Kane Hodder once again plays Jason(About 4 people have played Jason total). However, I haven't seen Wes Kraven's name attached to the film at all. *shrugs*

Also, for those of you wondering this is a brief overview of the film:

"Teenagers find themselves caught in the middle of a dream battle between two famous forces of evil: Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) go mano y mano, as Freddy enters the dream world of Jason. The movie is said to start on Elm Street before eventually winding its way to Camp Crystal Lake for the final showdown."

Anyway, I plan to see this flick as a "why not" film. I'm not going expecting it to be great or really scary, but I hope it will at least be fun . It will be a little different and maybe with some luck it won't be a waste of 7 bucks. How about the rest of you?

This is going to bomb, stink, and suck. I mean come on!!!!!!!

Nappa 06-19-2003 01:32 PM

Not really a fan of either character, but apparently it's supposed to be pretty good for what it is. Should be some good mindless action.

diergray 06-19-2003 02:26 PM

I can't believe Kane Hodder isn't going to be Jason.

BubblegumTeflon 06-19-2003 02:52 PM

Does it matter, the guy's face is covered by a mask anyway right? :P

LittleOralAnnie 06-19-2003 03:10 PM

This August? I thought they had talked about this years ago when the movies had surpassed all their finales? I'd pay to see this, especially because the quality of special effects in movies has improved drastically since the 70-80s when these movies first came out.

Sparhawk 06-19-2003 05:53 PM

I haven't seen any of the previous incarnations of the characters, but I'm seriously considering this one. Looks like a good waste of 2 hours *grin*

Batman976 06-19-2003 08:12 PM

I think it's gonna be great. Obviously it won't be a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but I'm guessing it will be a fun watch.

Yeah, I think they've been talking about it for about a good ten years. This must have gone through rewrite hell...

nate_dawg 06-20-2003 02:43 PM

this is definitely gonna be one of those love it or hate it movies.

I think it'll be cool to see freddie's crazy dreamland with today's technology......

Roark 06-21-2003 04:03 AM

So is Jason laying in a coffin somewhere deaming and that's how Freddy get's an in? I didn't think dead people dreamed..

ninety09 06-21-2003 07:36 AM

I think that the idea of putting these two against each other is brilliant. It could be very interesting.

XenuHubbard 06-22-2003 06:29 AM

I'll be glued to my seat, with a huge grin on my face.
Dumb entertainment is all I'm expecting.

With those two in it, the movie can't be as crap as Halloween Online.

Jesus Pimp 06-22-2003 08:26 AM

I'll be checking it out when it comes out. Where's the Alien Vs Predator movie? Now that I would love to see..

Shokan 06-22-2003 10:49 AM

Its gonna be crappy, but good.

*camp* as it were.

I will so go see this, just for nostaglia purposes.

Snoogans 06-22-2003 12:17 PM

It will rule. Sadly, it will probably go straight to video in Sweden.

Reese 06-23-2003 12:32 AM

I thought Jason X was one of the best recent Slasher movies. I think Freddy vs Jason will be another great slasher movie. I'm not saying it will be the best acting and best screenplay.. but damn it will be a FUN movie.

merkerguitars 06-23-2003 11:20 PM

The trailer makes it seem it won't be that bad. But who knows. Either it will be really good or really bad.

Porkchop 06-24-2003 12:20 AM

This was talked about for years . Even at the end of one of the friday 13th Freddy pulls Jason`s mask into the ground. They have sure took there time hopefully it will be good . Not just stupid humour. We can hope

m0j0 06-24-2003 12:44 AM

This looks cool

leo_cote 06-25-2003 09:33 PM

I watch them all several times and i will go see this one too will probly suck but what can you expect?

coke babies 06-25-2003 10:38 PM

I'll be seeing it opening night, drunk out of my mind. That's how I went to Jason X, and loved it. Sober... not so good.

easy 06-25-2003 10:40 PM

hahaha in a funny way I actually want 2 see this flim if only 1 laugh my ass off but i'll probably wait 4 the DVD

HA! I almost forgot about that. I love it!

shaamet 06-26-2003 09:03 AM

It seems to me like the people who are making this movie actually care about the history and quality (for lack of a better word) of the two franchises. I'd bet they've managed to come up with something more creative than Freddy attacking Jason in his sleep. I'm not a huge slasher fan, but I'll be tempted to plop down my $8 for this movie. It'll be good for what it is.

docbungle 06-26-2003 01:03 PM

Jason vs Michael Myers would be a better fight. Based on what they've accomplished so far, Jason would rip Freddy's head off with one hand.

Psivage 06-27-2003 11:27 AM

I'm looking forward to this movie. I just wonder if they will put out two ending on the DVD. One where Jason wins and one where Freddy wins. Should be mindless fun. Also should be # 1 movie the first week it is out.

The Atomic Boy 06-27-2003 12:08 PM

Saw the trailer at the movies about a week ago. I semeed to be the only one laughing at it. I felt a little out of place. I mean it seems to me like a 7 year old's school yard argument made into a movie. "Freddy could so beat up Jason" "Nuh uh! Jason would hack him into pieces!"

THE MAC GOD 06-30-2003 07:00 AM

I think it will be fun (shoot the movies about these characters are satirical in the first place)... plus, if you gotta have another movie featuring either one, why not do it with BOTH..

I'm not sure i understand exactly what this is about. Is it just Freddy and Jason just trying to kill each other or what? Why is that they get into this fight?

BonesCPA 08-11-2003 01:28 PM

Although I never was into either of the series, this does interest me. I guess it is to see how they mesh the two together, and in the end how is the "best."

kwoodmex 08-11-2003 01:29 PM

looks pretty killer, now all we need is the Alien vs. Predator movie!

buclao 08-11-2003 04:01 PM

It seems like a good idea. I'm still debating whether to go and see it or wait until it comes out on DVD.

Hopefully its a good idea...either its gonna be really horrible or somewhat decent or better.

Reliable sources have revealed that one of the current ideas being tossed around includes a scenario where Freddy and Jason would team-up against a common enemy: Bruce Campbell as Ash from the "Evil Dead" films. As crazy as it might sound, this concept has apparently been met with a great deal of enthusiasm in the upper-echelons of New Line Cinema. (Not to mention the degrees of separation: "FvsJ" producer Sean S. Cunningham directed Campbell in last years "Terminal Invasion" for the SciFi Channel.)

Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash... *sigh*

neoinoakleys 08-12-2003 01:02 PM

You know there really can't be a clear cut winner...it would just destroy it for fans on either side... They just can't allow that.

brandon11983 08-12-2003 02:32 PM

I'm gonna hate to miss the premiere, but its the girlfriends' birthday.... and I can't fucking miss that.... Saturday though.. I'll be there!!

Spektr 08-12-2003 02:47 PM

I personally can't wait to see it. It looks like on the most thoroughly entertaining movies ever made.

YaWhateva 08-13-2003 04:20 PM

I cant wait. I hope its not a joke like Jason X was. Jason X was great for its comedy. I hope this is more serious, and by the looks of the previews it will be.

clockworkgreen 08-13-2003 06:41 PM

Mmm, I'll find it on unofficial channels.

petergriffin24 08-14-2003 07:41 AM

Does it *really* matter?

Hell no...

BTW... Freddy is gonna *kick* Jason's ass... guaranteed he will dredge up Jason's Mom to have a go at Jason's psyche...

Kadath 08-14-2003 09:03 AM

This isn't really a spoiler, I think.
The actual answer, from reading a plot summary, is that Freddy tricks Jason into killing the Elm Street kids because the dream inhibitors the kids are taking prevent Mr. Krueger from doing it. Then Jason finds out he's been tricked, and thus, the battle royale.
I'm not a particular fan of these movies, though I'll watch them when they're on TV and snicker, but I am SO pumped for this one. Why? Search me...

This movie is going into production...

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-14-2003 02:51 PM

Is Jason even competition for Freddy? It seems like there would be no match. Can't Freddy transport you instantly anywhere in space, time, or the imagination? How is Jason gonna compete with that? Freddy can do all kinds of shit. He can change his own size and shape or your size and shape and he can mess with your mind. Now what can Jason do to compete with that? Is he gonna pick up something thats lying around and kill Freddy? That may work against normal people but against Freddy, i think not.

holtmate 08-14-2003 06:49 PM

I just can't wait for the cornfield rave scene I've heard so much about. I think I might have to drag some friends to see this one...maybe one of my jumpy lady friends so I can get her a little closer...hehe. ;)

Aliens Vs. Predator has been stuck in pre-production hell for so long, the fans are going to blast that one to shreds...I'll be there, though.

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-15-2003 06:07 AM

Also i'd like to add that it would have been pretty cool if Micheal could have gotten involved in this whole mess.

Maveric 08-15-2003 07:44 AM

i just found out that kane hodder, who normally plays Jason, isn't in this one. i read an interview with kane and he was told by new line that "they wanted to go in a different direction" and never explained why they didn't want to use him.

i plan on seeing it today, i'll post a review later today if i do :)

Yeah, it's pretty stupid that they didn't use Kane Hodder...but oh well. =\

They said they wanted someone who could show 'emotion' through their eyes and the mask. Meh. Whatever...

Maveric 08-15-2003 10:58 AM

fuckin' hell... i drove all the way to the movie theater and forgot my wallet! oh well, i prefer watching movies on mondays or tuesdays (less people) anyways...

wwcd101 08-15-2003 01:18 PM

Thankfully, my mom isn't going to let me see this one. I'll have to live thru you all.

I think I'll go see Seabiscuit again.

Thanks for listening.

gnort 08-15-2003 06:10 PM

Just got back from seeing it. In my opinion it played out the majority of the other Freddy or Jason flicks. I went into it expecting crap, but i was impressed...mostly with the way that they were brought together. It wasnt some stupid gimick....well it was a little stupid...but overall not that bad. If you like any of the other slasher horror movies than this is a pretty damn good one.

holtmate 08-15-2003 06:38 PM

I was a little disappointed that Hodder wasn't back under the mask myself, but I know that the new guy is a few inches taller, too. So, I guess they wanted Jason to be a little more intimidating when he goes up against Freddy...

You know, I realized how much of a movie geek I was, when after watching Daredevil's credits, I noticed Kane Hodder among the stuntpersons. I pointed it out to my g/f at the time, and she just shook her head... Heh.

Kyp 08-15-2003 07:26 PM

I just saw it as well... it was better than I expected it to be but still nothing great. Overall it was well done.

Prophecy 08-15-2003 08:27 PM

Well, I think I'm gonna pop into the theater tomorrow and have look at this one. Glad to know it itsn't total crap. Question, now does this movie have any scary parts? Lately I haven't seen one horror flick that had 1 remote chance of making me jump or shock me in my seat. Supense films on the other had are great. Signs actually got me to jump a few times the first time through, heh.

clockworkgreen 08-15-2003 10:07 PM

BOOO!!!

Jesus Pimp 08-16-2003 04:53 AM

I saw a 1:30 matinee show yesterday. The movie was pretty cheesey and gory. Decent amount of b00bies but there could of been more. I really wanted to see the main chick Lori's tits. Anyway overall it was a fun movie and laughable one at that. The ending made me cringe though and kind of ruined the movie for me. WTF were they thinking?

kane hodder played the boxer who fights Dare Devil's Dad (i think) and he was also the guy who killed DD's dad after the boxing match in the alley...

he talks about it and losing the jason role in this interview below...

If you're a big fan of Freddy or Jason, it's well worth the money. The movie is a lot of fun.

brandon11983 08-17-2003 11:16 AM

I saw it last night, and I was expecting a good old fashioned gore fest. I wasn't let down too much. Plenty o' boobies, I too wanted to see the main chicks. They did show like 50 million clevage shots of her though. I thought the ending was awesome. Cuz it left it open for 2 directions the next movie could go. Overall, $6.50 well spent.

^dude 08-17-2003 01:36 PM

Should be going to see it soon, looks great!

Locke 08-17-2003 06:13 PM

Saw it on saturday. I thought it was just ok until the fighting started. Then it got awesome. Freddy had some funny moments. Didn't the stoner look a little too much like Jay (jay and silent bob)? Anyone catch what might have been a knock against Bush in the police station?

a_divine_martyr 08-17-2003 11:39 PM

I saw it on Friday.

Fucking awesome movie.

New innovative ways to kill people + boobies +catepillar with a bong = r0x0r.

I think I caught the Bush bash, but I don't remember that scene too much.

And did anyone else see the Harry Potter cameo during the rave? Or maybe I just thought I saw him.

EDIT: took out the mini-spoiler.

08-17-2003 11:53 PM

I thought it was awesome. I was never a big fan of either of the horror series, but I was impressed. The fight scenes were awesome and even though I didn't watch many of the movies I was always a fan of Freddy's psychological stuff. I would recomend it to people even if they weren't fans of the past movies.

snicka 08-18-2003 11:56 AM

I long ago gave up on the Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th Movies being good, but they are entertainingly stupid.

Stare At The Sun 08-18-2003 01:00 PM

Just saw it, not more than an hour ago, i really enjoyed it. :). Good flick overall, and the f v j fight scenes are rather well done :)

metrodub 08-19-2003 11:42 AM

Saw this over the weekend at a drive-in of all places. Nothing like watching a horror film with a second half takes place near the woods outside, with the woods as a backdrop. This had a hell of an affect on the wife, who became quite jumpy!

As for the movie itself, I was quite entertained. Went into it not expecting a damn thing and came out with a big grin on my face. Didn't catch the Bush reference, but was taken back by the obvious reference to Jay in the stoner. I was waiting for him to look for his silent hetero-life mate!

Snoogans 08-19-2003 01:04 PM

I'm dying to see this movie..

It probably won't be here for a long, long time though...

Kaos 08-19-2003 07:59 PM

Just got back from seeing it...This movie kicked ass. My only complaint is how the kids figured out Freddy's plans on their own so fast.

Overall, awesome movie, despite a couple of plot and story problems. Worth it for fans of either Jason or Freddy or both.

8.5 out of 10.

hawkeye 08-19-2003 11:19 PM

Just saw it, and all I can say is wow. that was my first exposure to a real slasher movie and what a way to start. Obviously the fight scenes were the best part of the movie, but I really enjoyed the dark humor that oozed from everywhere. 13yr old jason in a minature mask....W00t!!

agentsmith 08-19-2003 11:36 PM

so would I have to know anything about the previous movies to enjoy this? I don't think I've watched any.

No, they do a pretty good job of giving a simple backstory for each character.

Although, I found it funny that during flashbacks telling Freddy's story they showed scenes from Nightmare On Elm Street 2, which those involved consider the redheaded stepchild of the series since it strayed away from the concept of the franchise.

grayman 08-21-2003 09:22 AM

According to IMDB, F. vs. J. cost $25 million to make and it grossed $36+ million in its opening weekend. So expect both of these series to continue. I think most people just enjoy the good, campy fun of these films. In addition, the overall quality of all films that get released anymore has actually dropped below slasher films, i.e. slasher films are supposed to be bad and Gigli was not, so many people are pleased when a movie delivers just what it promises: gore and humor without trying to get too philosophical.

Renegade 08-21-2003 07:25 PM

I liked it, but...

I would have like a few more cool kills. They did do a great job creating characters that you wanted dead ASAP. Lots of blood and some pretty funny one liners.

Seriously I just saw the movie and thought (for what it was, I mean I wasnt expecting the best movie of all time here) that it was great.

What I love about seeing movies like this in the theatre is listening to people jumping and screaming while I'm laughing my ass off.

Buzz 08-23-2003 07:37 AM

When I heard about the movie I said here we go again ... How many times are they going to get killed this time?? Part ???

Aaron0000 08-27-2003 12:58 AM

I thought it was pretty good, if they had just invested in some better actors, and cleaned up the dialogue it would have been awesome.
