knight rider is coming back!

according to the article here:

http://www.eonline.com/news/article/...rss_topstories

sorry hasslehoff fans, the hoff won't be in it, but the show is coming back...

Esoteric 09-29-2007 06:51 AM

I liked the intro music.

Prophecy 09-29-2007 08:32 AM

I remember loving this show as a kid. I hope it's an actual half way decent remake. Though I could see this getting canned as quick as the 1994 tv show Viper. On a side note, what's with all the remakes of 70s and 80s shows lately?

albania 09-29-2007 09:06 AM

I wonder if they'll get the guy who played the principle on boy meets world for the voice of the car again. I'm sort of guessing that it'll bomb, but I am willing to allow for other more pleasant possibilities.

i actually kinda liked viper.

i think they are hoping to capture the older crowd through nostalgia, and figured "gee, starsky and hutch used to be a hit, lets try it again, etc....

if they do a remake of welcome back kotter, i will walk to whatever studio is making it and shoot people...

Cynthetiq 09-29-2007 10:25 AM

Ugh, I hated the Team Knight Rider that was out in the late 90s.

I did like KR... but TKR was just lame.

Plan9 09-29-2007 12:55 PM

They need to do an A-Team movie... like... time now. STAT!

drego 09-29-2007 02:14 PM

Knightrider....it would in fact be amazing if they brought it back. The only thing that scares me is when they say things like:

Quote:

not only will K.I.T.T. be able to talk to his partner Michael Knight; he'll also be able to change shape in a Transformer-esque fashion.
on some sites. That just makes me think "Man, I hope they don't cheese-monkey this to the point that it's an unwatchable rippoff of Transformers."

~Drego

SecretMethod70 09-29-2007 02:20 PM

Sorry, but this is gonna suck.

Willravel 09-29-2007 02:38 PM

Can it transform into a better idea for a show?

Send me a PM before you do.

cameroncrazy822 10-01-2007 07:49 AM

Nothing will ever compare to the Hoff in that members only jacket and sprayed on Jordache jeans.

guthmund 10-01-2007 07:57 AM

I used to love the show as a kid, but these days, I can't imagine anyone making a decent show out of it, especially now that they've added transformers.

And an A-Team remake would be awesome.

Plan9 10-01-2007 10:52 AM

Anybody remember that '80s "Turbo Teen" cartoon? Totally should be a movie.

Makes me shiver sometimes that I watched it with such glee in my eyes.

No worries my friend it's a guilty pleasure of having lived through the 80's. That prick can eat a burger like no one's business....

JStrider 10-03-2007 04:23 PM

maybe by transform, they mean Super Pursuit Mode?

hit a button and like fins and stuff stick out and k.i.t.t. can go super fast...

Hopefully, that's what they mean and not a rip off of Viper or Transformers.

Elphaba 10-03-2007 06:31 PM

Well, dayum. I thought you meant Knight Ridder. Nevermind.

Cynthetiq 01-10-2008 07:13 AM

behind the scenes and some peeks at the new series...

SecretMethod70 01-10-2008 08:50 AM

Unsurprisingly, that looks stupid :/

Willravel 01-10-2008 09:15 AM

"Let's make KITT a new Mustang. People will love that." - Satan, father of all lies and the uncle of all tricks

They should have made it a Vette Z06. It's real American muscle, and every pseudo-rich high school student in the entire country doesn't drive one (unlike the new Mustang). KITT is supposed to be fast, not look like a big ugly toy.

No, more like "Let's approach each of the car manufacturers, and see which one will pay us the most to have KITT be their car".

Amnesia620 01-10-2008 09:34 AM

I think that we have to give this show a chance. I'm looking forward to watching it, but I'm surrounded by others who say that they're sure to be disappointed. If a person can enjoy it for its differences, then I think it's going to be a great show. I for one am excited that they're bringing it back!

owlbill 01-10-2008 11:56 AM

A long long time ago, in a convention center not to far away........I had a photo taken of me with K.I.T.T. Boy........those were the days LOL.

That I can totally get behind. As long as it's not a Mustang.

Pft, retarded mustang. I agree with the c6 z06 statment. That car makes me want to cream my pants

As well it should. It's literally the best car ever made. It drives like a supercar but costs less than a baseline Carrera. It's more American than American cheese on apple pie at a baseball game. It's not got bells and whistles, just a gorgeous engine that came into being when I found a genie. My second wish was that we'd have a president that was funny, but that kinda backfired.

Hain 01-11-2008 02:28 AM

So, how many remakes has Hollywood and TV tried to pull fast ones on us and we didn't bite?
Bionic Woman
Kojak- The Knight Stalker (big fan of the original)
Add this to it...

They are out of ideas.

Prophecy 01-11-2008 10:33 AM

Just watched the little trailer. I'm going to miss the Pontiac Trans Am.

Anyway, piggy-backing on what Redlemon said the Mustang was mostly likely picked for money issues.

However, an interesting/geeky footnote(s): The Mustang was also the KITT used in the crappy made for tv movie Knight Rider 2010.

Personally, I'd rather have the Knight 4000 (a customized Dodge Stealth modeled to look like a Pontiac Banshee) from the other made for tv movie Knight Rider 2000.

Lastly, why call the car the 3000 if the 4000 has already been named in previous Knight Rider works? From what I've seen it takes place after first series and the movie KR2000. So shouldn't the 5000 be the next car? I'm pretty sure the writers used the name 3000 simply to keep the acronym K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand) or in this case Knight Industries Three Thousand.

How many of us would say, "what the hell?" if the car was named K.I.F.T.

Finally, the original voice actor for K.I.T.T. is William Daniels. IMDB has Will Arnett listed as the new voice.

Willravel 01-11-2008 10:38 AM

The fact that they're not up on the lore is troublesome, yes.

ItWasMe 01-11-2008 11:21 AM

I liked the Knight Rider techno remix.
I'm a Mustang kinda gal, but I did think it was an odd choice for a KITT. The cool thing about the Z06 dashboard is you don't ever have to look at it to monitor your speed. It shows up on your windshield, too. They could have played with that feature a bit, if they'd gone with the Z06 instead of the Mustang.

fresnelly 01-11-2008 01:00 PM

I'm really only interested in the scenes involving the old car. It'll be fun to see it in action again and I hope it's given a dignified send off -perhaps a firey tumble down a cliff after saving a puppy.

The rest may as well be KnightBoat.

Quote:

Bart: Oh, every week there's a canal.

Bart: Or a fjord.
Homer: Quiet! I will not hear another word against the boat.

Borla 01-14-2008 07:59 PM

They've already ruined it by making it a Mustang.

They could've at least stayed true to it's f-body roots by making it a TransAm WS6. Or worst case, a C6 Vette (I kind of like the Z06 idea mentioned earlier). Even an '09 Camaro wouldn't have been THAT bad.

But going Mustang on us ruined it.

QuasiMondo 01-14-2008 09:15 PM

I don't know what's worse, the new KITT trying to sound cool with, "Hello, Mike" or the new guy wearing his Member's Only leather jacket like it's a family heirloom from David Hasselhoff himself.

Cynthetiq 01-14-2008 09:43 PM

I guess those of you bawling that it's a Ford doesn't remember the short run of Team Knight Rider which aired in 1997. I watched a few episodes but didn't really enjoy it at all since there was a "team" of people instead of the idea that "one man can make a difference." It featured Ford vehicles as it's primary team members.

Danté (D.N.T.-1), a modified Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle
Domino (D.M.O.-1), a modified Ford Mustang convertible
Attack Beast (B.S.T.-1), or just Beast, which is a modified Ford F-150 full-sized pickup truck with off-road capability
Kat (K.A.T.-1), a high-tech motorcycle that merges with her twin, Plato, to form the advanced High Speed Pursuit Vehicle
Plato (P.L.A.T.O.-1), the other motorcycle that merges with his twin Kat to form the High Pursuit Vehicle

Man, how time flies. The return of Knight Rider to the small screen happens in just nine days when a two-hour movie featuring a new Michael Knight and his talking, jumping, cloaking car airs February 17th on NBC. You'd think with such little time left that the movie itself would be finished and ready to go. Not so. A few weeks ago, Will Arnett, the chosen voice of KITT in the movie and upcoming series, was forced to back out because someone realized that he also did voiceover work for GMC. Being a professional grade voice for General Motors doesn't jive with playing KITT in a show that's sponsored by Ford, so the Arrested Development star vacated the role. His replacement: Val Kilmer. Wha?!?!?!

Doc Holliday? Ice Man? Nick Rivers? It's true. Kilmer's a pretty big star for the production to score on such short notice, but then again, Kilmer hasn't had a mainstream hit in a while. Still, why doesn't someone just bite the bullet and call William Daniels, the original voice of KITT who is also known for playing Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World? Admit it, Val Kilmer's synthesized pipes coming from KITT's tweeters will never live up to the high standard set by Daniels. But don't worry Val, we'd say the same thing about anyone they got for this job except for the original voice of KITT.
seriously VAL KILMER????

Cynthetiq 02-11-2008 08:36 PM

okay... Leno drives it around... via remote control, okay that's very very cool

Charlatan 02-11-2008 08:58 PM

I read the Val Kilmer thing this morning... how odd.

Has Val sunk so low in his career that he can only do voice work? That said, he probably will get paid a decent bit of money for very little work.

Willravel 02-11-2008 09:03 PM

Val is in a place where he does "fuck it" work because it's fun. I LOVED Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It was not mainstream or anything even close, but it looked like he had a blast.

How much fun would it be to do KITT? I'd do it for $15k a year.

Fremen 02-12-2008 12:36 AM

Val did a great job in Larry McMurtry's Comanche Moon this past month.
If you missed it and you like Westerns, try to rent it when it hits the stores.
It's a prequel to Lonesome Dove.

fresnelly 02-17-2008 08:54 PM

Well that wasn't so bad now was it?

Is it true that in the US there was a Ford logo in the corner of the screen for the entire show?

Cynthetiq 02-17-2008 09:34 PM

damn forgot all about it. Tivo says it will rebroadcast on Sat at 6pm EST.

allaboutmusic 02-18-2008 12:11 AM

Reviews, please!

Willravel 02-18-2008 12:17 AM

Meh, not bad and not stellar. 6/10

Spoiler: It was nice to see the original Michael Knight and I love Val Kilmer (after Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), but I hope they don't make him into a Spock/Data/Odo/Tuvok/T'Pol carbon copy; the emotionless character striving to be human or whatever.

ItWasMe 02-18-2008 07:23 AM

Well, we liked it. You can view the movie online at nbc dot com.

http://www.nbc.com/Knight_Rider/video/episodes.shtml

I just started watching it to see if you have to pay for it. Nope, it's free.

Hehe...it says 'this presentation sponsored by Suzuki. I restarted it accidentally, and it went to being sponsored by Nissan.

Cynthetiq 02-18-2008 09:01 AM

:) I like the fact that it streams very quickly, and with my adblocker, I don't see the ads. ABC has a check wherein if the ad doesn't play the rest of the show doesn't start.

whatever1 02-18-2008 09:19 AM

I enjoyed it. It was cool to see the hoff in the show, now he can disappear. They sorta gotta go with the series now. The ending was a hanger.....

ItWasMe 02-18-2008 09:36 AM

They cut 40 minutes of commercials out of the online version. The rest is the same. The ads that do show, only run for less than a minute, instead of 5 or so on tv last night. Now, if I can figure out how to hook up the tv to the computer...

mrklixx 02-19-2008 04:22 PM

I just watched it, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm glads that they decided to continue the story, rather than starting from scratch/"re-imagining". I also liked Val Kilmer as KITT, but I wonder if he'll be able to stick it out should the series become popular enough for a multi-season run. From what I've heard, he's notoriously difficult to work with, but since it's just voice over work he may be able to "play nice".

I don't know about anyone else, but I kind of respect the that they are not trying to hide the fact that this is a big fat commercial, and the "proper" Ford commercials commercials were actually kind of funny.

New Knight Rider: First Video Of KITT Valmorphanizing Into A Ford F-150 FX4 Pickup Truck
Quote:

Somewhere between "Morphing" and "Transforming" is the very Team America-ish "Valmorphanization." That's the term we feel best using to describe what KITT's doing in this one minute clip from the new Knight Rider TV show premiering September 24th on NBC. As you'd expect, KITT is apparently fitted with a current Ford lineup-limiter, only letting him "valmorphanize" into Ford products. Which explains why he's able to "valmorphanize" into a Ford F-150 FX4 pickup truck rather than the more appropriate "Ranchero" form factor we hoped for when we heard about his plethora of new looks yesterday.

Now we're only left wondering when Ford comes out with a special "Knight Rider" edition F-150. Like the Harley-Davidson version, we're assuming the truck bed won't be big enough to hold KITT. Also, note the Shelby cobra that's part of the TV show's logo. We wonder how many ads Ford had to buy to get that level of a boa constrictor-like grip on the creative process? [Knight Rider]
KITT asking if Michael is gay...OMG what a hoot!

just watched it. It's a lot less cheesy than the original was (though I confess to having loved the orig. as a younger-person) . . .but the one scene where

Spoiler: the SUV crashes into KITT, and KITT doesn't even MOVE, was just stupid. It's physically impossible, and to such an absurd degree that it destroys the suspension of disbelief.
