New Transformers Trailer

http://video.vividas.com/CDN1/5029_paramount/en/web/

This just raised my low expectations for this movie.

Roark 12-20-2006 12:04 PM

I"ve been looking forward to this movie for some time now. I think it's one of those movies that's either be awsome or suck there's not going to be any inbetween.

Thanks for the link, nice little teaser!

doubleaught 12-20-2006 01:57 PM

hrrrmmmm DAMN! looks good. But I will still go in thinking it will suck, since that's how I end up enjoying the vast majority of movies I see ;)

silent_jay 12-20-2006 02:28 PM

Can't fuckin wait for the movie to come out, I'll be breaking out all the old Transformer toys from my childhood for that one.

Bacchanal 12-20-2006 02:34 PM

I've been waiting for this since I first heard about it. The trailer looks good, I just hope the movie is as well.

Ch'i 12-20-2006 04:18 PM

I've been thinking its going to suck since I heard Micheal Bay was doing it. Maybe, hopefully, Stephen kept him and the movie in line.

ShaniFaye 12-20-2006 04:40 PM

lol did anyone notice the little girl at the end is carrying a My Pretty Pony (also a Hasbro toy from the 80's that was populer from 81-83, before transformers came out in 84)

Redjake 12-20-2006 05:58 PM

Ever since I heard Bay was in on this, my expectations have been very, very low. Perhaps it will turn out good.

*EDIT*

I watched the trailer. They are going to have to work on some of those graphics to get it believable. Some older car commercials have better "transformer" graphics than that. I really enjoyed the helicopter transformer thing though. If the graphics end up being a smash hit on this movie, it will take it a long way.

zed wolf 12-21-2006 09:25 AM

Hmmm, I think there are two points this.
First off, this is the first I have heard of this movie.
Second, I loved the original series and the original movie.
Third, I don't like the new series.
Fourth, It looks like if taken as a stand alone movie with no background story or connection to the original series or even the current series it should be a good movie.
Fifth, I think since I did like the original I will be less inclined to like this one as it will be a perversion of my old childhood cartoon.
Sixth, I have gone on way too long, I was only supposed to have two points to this reply.

ratbastid 12-21-2006 11:14 AM

I've been pretty skeptical about this, but.... that trailer was pretty bad-ass.

Willravel 12-21-2006 11:33 AM

Is Voltron next in line? I think it's silly.

Redjake 12-21-2006 02:16 PM

I think it's a great idea, but something like this needs really good directing and effects to work. The effects shouldn't be too much of a problem, all they need is money. The directing is where it's going to sell it. They gotta take it seriously. This movie has so much potential. I mean freaking car commercials have the graphics in place already. Point in case: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...ransform&hl=en

That video came out at least a year go, maybe longer. This movie is going to have to have great directing in order to succeed. And if it doesn't, I'm going to be one pissed off Transformers fan.

Lady Sage 12-21-2006 05:00 PM

I am still not sold. Sad thing is I liked them when I was a kid. The movie just doesnt look good to me. :(

MexicanOnABike 12-21-2006 05:02 PM

i never watched the show but i did have a few toys. still, even if i didnt play with em, i'd still want to see this movie. it looks like a great disaster movie for the summer!

edit: oups. my bad. it was actualy a GO-Bot toy that i had when i was young. eh. it's still cool to have some transformer movie in 3d/real action.

fresnelly 12-22-2006 06:50 AM

Hmm. That was a great trailer - for a Verhoevan horror movie. If I had never heard of the toyline or cartoon series, I'd be led to believe this movie was another Starship Troopers, with a parade of victims getting impaled by pointy monsters and aliens.

I certainly don't begrudge them for taking the film in a different direction or focusing on a new generation of fans, rather than mining nostalgic 30 somethings like me for an audience, but I was surprised by the complete lack of character or heart shown in that trailer. Wait and see, I guess.

Mondak 12-22-2006 07:11 AM

I played with my Transformers for thousands of hours. They get my $9.00 just to see transformers in live action. If the movie is even remotely compelling, I am more than happy. That being said, the trailer looked great. Can't wait. . .

Thats completely my impression. No charm, No substance. They only vaguely resemble the G1 Transformers.

I dont know...perhaps Im too loyal to the original but this look like a complete farce in line with the Street Fighter movie.

Lady Sage 12-23-2006 01:41 PM

I saw the preview on the big screen last night. Prime and Bumblebee look more like they are wearing dirt bike helmets...

Mister Coaster 12-26-2006 01:39 PM

The effects are going to be the best part. With any luck, there might be an actual story to drive it, but I'm not holding my breath. Bonus points will be scored if they get the same voice actors as were in the original cartoons. I'll go see it, unless I hear nothing but negative reviews after opening weekend.

Yeah, I had a lot of the original toys, but I was... a little rough with them.

Drider_it 12-26-2006 11:31 PM

True story.. friend at work was stationed at the air force base used in the opening of the movie.. we watched the trailer at work.. he was tickled it gets destroyed.. he did critize on the placement of the armament though heh

( old hippy that he is)

well everyone that posts on the TF forums says they look like bugs.. its actually a beefed up robotech/gundam look really.. they have faces but part of the helmet moved down during combat .. prime is supposed to have lips but will have the standard g1 face plate at times.

ive seen the vid of prime going flat out on a highway then "jumps" transforms in the air.. was awesome.. 2hrs later it was pulled off the net heh..

they are doing it.. but its gotta sell a toy line also.. i guess

Halx 12-27-2006 11:27 AM

This movie is gonna be very cool. And very bad.

Darth_Kettch 01-04-2007 03:46 PM

My only gripe is that they look too organic, not at all like the G1 Transformers we all love so much :(

I'll still go see it, of course! :D

KellyC 01-04-2007 04:19 PM

This, along with 300 and Spider-Man 3 are my "must see movies" of 2007.

desal75 01-05-2007 09:17 AM

I'm more excited about this than my ten year old son but he is pretty stoked too.

Can anybody remember how cool the original animated movie was with that evil planet thing and stuff.

Actually I did. I am not a fan of Michael Mann. Except for Heat, I can't think of a movie he did that I enjoyed. Also the trailer looks like any other action film, just with the Transformers license. I always look forward to being wrong, though, because I would rather be surprised than have my expectation (of this film) lead to disappointment.

Seer666 01-07-2007 09:41 PM

Well, with Bay directing, my hopes are low. But I'm still going to see it. I've been wanting this for YEARS. Ah well, what is one more dream hopelessly crushed?

If Michael Mann were directing, I would be a LOT more excited about this.....

Michael Bay is directing

I thought one thing and wrote something else. Bay is who I meant.

Tamerlain 01-17-2007 06:41 PM

I heard about this movie a while ago, but hadn't seen a preview until now. Looks better than I expected. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Why are the majority of people here disappointed Michael Bay is directing? I don't know who he is, which is why I ask.

New New New Transformers trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/summer-movie...30/trailers/31

I've upgraded my opinion from "I'm excited" to "this is going to fucking rock whether it sucks or not, because we get to see transformers transform and it makes the sound like it did in the cartoon and it's good graphics"

Mister Coaster 05-17-2007 07:17 PM

Wow, this makes it look... pretty darn good. I'm still wanting to hear them speak...

Mondak 05-18-2007 07:07 AM

I will go to a midnight showing on the 3rd if they have one. That new trailer is quite nice looking. Appears that Bumblebee is Jesus in this one. I guess that is alright. Either way - seeing Starscream transform looked freaking great.

I will repeat what I said above - my expectations are to see some Transformer fight scenes. They get my $9.00 just for the fact that they made it. If the story sucks (i.e. they somehow try to insert a love story angle where one really doesn't need to be etc.) I will live with it.

MexicanOnABike 05-18-2007 11:13 AM

wow! intense! this will be one of my must see movie of the summeR!

Drider_it 05-21-2007 10:09 PM

But I forgot to add.. you gotta understand.. pearl harbor was pure fantasy and fiction for michael bay. He will do great on this one. Plus you got SS in the background with a sniper pointing and MB the whole way.. Man no way would he let him mess this up.

seretogis 05-22-2007 03:21 PM

I looked up the word "garbage" in the dictionary and it said "See: Michael Bay."

Surprisingly, I'm finding myself thinking the same thing. When Optimus transformed in that trailer (which is now on my desktop), I found myself back in 1986 sitting in front of our 17" color tv with bunny ears in the living room watching my favorite show. Michael Bay won't give us much of a story or style, but it's clear that, between the incredible graphics and the all to familiar sound of transforming, this will be worth my matinée payment.

Jetée 05-22-2007 04:16 PM

I'm sorry to inform you all of TFP that I, Jetstream, grew up on, and still hold fond memories of, the "Beast Wars" transformers.

I had never witnessed the original vehicular Transformers.

Terrible shame. :(

Willravel 05-22-2007 04:26 PM

Not at all. The Beast Wars were an important part of the Transformers legacy, and if you've seen every episode of Beast Wars, you HAVE seen Optimus Prime, who was nearly fatally damaged by the Predecon Megatron.

This was deserving of the hype. I just saw it and I plan to see it again in the next few days. I hate Michael "The Island" Bay, but he earned his meal ticket with this one.

8.9/10

Drider_it 07-03-2007 02:44 AM

I must say in all that is transformers they had to find a way to gel it into a movie. In ways i was let down by the plot. But then again who really cares.. I went to see a semi stand up at 80mph and kick some arse.

Yeah i wont do a spoiler man its sooo easy to slip up. It was worth it. Every second of the movie was worth it. *waits for the dvd*

jusolson00 07-03-2007 06:45 AM

Well I got to see it last night and I can't say enough about the movie.. This one was good. real good. I'm by no means a transformer buff, just a guy who collected some toys and watched the cartoon back in the day, so I'm not sure how it'll satisfy the hardcore guys. But I loved it. I won't give much away, but a few thoughts... The plot was solid, I mean you can't have robot cars fighting for the entire show, so they gotta mix it up. The love angle was kept to a minimum which was nice, and there were plenty of funny parts that had me laughing. And then there was the good stuff.... There was in my mind plenty of autobot-decepticon fighting! I think the last 45 min. was pure fighting. Seeing those guys transform and back again while fighting had me giggeling like a school girl.

MPower 07-03-2007 08:58 AM

The Megatron finger flick was worth the price of admission.

Drider_it 07-03-2007 07:08 PM

man sam gets the girl gets a cool robot friend and is a hero.. im jealous

Konichiwaneko 07-04-2007 01:23 AM

Jazz :(

Optimus just oozed leadership in the movie. I came out content!

bookerV 07-04-2007 06:50 AM

This movie was great! I was really impressed. It was much better than what I was expecting.

I totally agree with you on this one. That part was classic!

I felt pretty bad for Jazz too, but I'm glad that they did kill off someone. Made it much more believable and really showed how powerful Megatron is.

At this point I am totally pumped for a sequal. The sooner the better!

warrrreagl 07-04-2007 07:32 AM

OK some advice is needed. Grancey and I are both too old for Transformers. We were decades out of childhood when they first appeared. We've never even held a Transformer toy in our hands. We've never watched a single episode of the cartoon. If there are books, we've never seen a single one of them.

What are the chances we'll enjoy this movie?

Jetée 07-04-2007 07:48 AM

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The draw of this movie is the awesome giant robots fighting and doing awesome giant robot things. The story isn't really that important or even all that interesting, it's more just a loose framework in which to hang some awesome giant fighting robots. So if you think you could enjoy a bunch of awesome giant fighting robots then you'll enjoy it.

Redjake 07-04-2007 06:49 PM

I liked it. Was it a good movie? Not really. Was it the most entertaining movie and the quickest 2 hours of the entire summer? HELL YES!

The graphics in this movie were just in-fucking-sane. My jaw literally dropped when Optimus Prime and the other decepticon on the expressway transformed into robot form.........I couldn't believe what I was seeing

Pretty clever movie, too

Could've used more development of the Transformer's personalities (50% talking and 50% battling instead of 80% battling, 20% talking)

Wasn't by any means a perfect movie, I wouldn't even call it a good movie, but the action scenes and spot-on personalities of the Transformers and the never-seen-before special effects made up for everything - I actually may end up seeing this one again, just for the effects!

Drider_it 07-05-2007 05:24 AM

best guess.. everyone says watch it 3 times lol. You see will end up seeing it all by then. Ironhides cannon took over 50k shots to get the cannon iris to work.

I was at first let down cuz i"m a more G1 fan but yeah the cartoony blocky look wouldnt work. Most the cartoons were a bend and a fold and they were a robot or vice versa. I agree with Micheal Bay saying he wanted a more realistic and believable look to them. All the hanging parts and such worked.. the shift in mass was a good call.

Optimus was a long nose instead of a cab over due to the fact with a cab over he would only be 18 feet tall instead of his 28 foot girth.

Yeah jazz getting reamed blowed but then again they all never die. According to lore when a transformer dies his spark goes back to the matrix or "all spark" and thier experiences are transfered to the collective. They only become an individual when they break off and "live" again.

Michael was heard to say he wants an aircraft carrier and the dino bots in the next one. and he has a good story line on how to work them in. The aircraft carrier couldnt be worked into the movie due to money issues and such. but I say ok fine by me.

the part of masturbation spoken in jest in the movie abet funny I had to downplay it during the movie to my son. I get that confused look i gotta nip that out but other than that it was a good .. damn good movie.

the fact they all have battle face plates was new. In the newer transformer cartoons optimus actually has a retractable face plate so that wasnt anything new to me. I still say they could have done a bit better on the faces though.

Just to wonder I still didnt get a good look.. who climbed outta the pool in the movie.. i know it wasnt jazz.. my guess was either iron hide or ratchet.

but for once we got to see weapons and such working with out a esrb and such blocking it like in the cartoons lol.

It was iron hide the tooth fairy :)

Optimus + sword = giant robot Jet Li. Absolutely awesome.

Reese 07-06-2007 06:18 AM

The sequel BETTER have Starscream vs Skyfire.

Spoiler: Where did Barricade go? And why was Jazz still in car form when Bumblebee was severely injured right beside him.

I would have given this movie a 10/10 but man the acting sucked. I gotta give it an 8/10 because the movie wasn't that great until the autobots came on the screen.

Halx 07-07-2007 04:29 AM

This was just an awesome movie experience. Forget all the lore and whatnot, this was a superb adaptation. I felt myself getting chills when I heard that transforming sound. I was seriously tense and excited throughout the whole movie. The humor was unexpected, but very welcomed. The movie exceeded my expectations by a mile.

Spoiler: Barricade probably survived along with Starscream and Scorponoc. Jazz didn't help Bumblebee because he's racist.

Will, I almost choked on my Dr. Pepper when I read that.

Yeah I noticed that on Wiki. We'll just have to wait and see for the next movie, or the movie after that (there's already talk of making it a trilogy).

Lasereth 07-08-2007 04:19 PM

Wow. That was actually a good movie. Not great, but good.

#1. It was FUNNY!!! I laughed out loud multiple times, especially during Shia LaBeouf's scenes. Bernie Mac made me laugh like 5 times. IF I HAD A ROCK I'D HIT THAT BITCH IN THE HEAD

#2. The first half was better than the second half, oddly enough. Bay had some really good acting and dialogue in this movie with a script that was well above normal movie quality. It fit the movie perfectly.

#3. The transformers look amazing as everyone has said. I'm glad they waited this long to make a Transformers live action movie because CGI wasn't up to par until now.

#4. I wish 30% of the action was taken out of the movie and replaced with 30% more dialogue. The transformers had really cool acting and really cool personalities. I just wish they put more scenes of dialogue in for them. The Decepticons needed more back story. It'd be cool to see a back story about Cybertron where it showed exactly how Megatron and Optimus Prime became enemies, etc.

Overall I'm really really impressed. This goes up there with The Rock as being GOOD Michael Bay movies.

Xazy 07-08-2007 05:19 PM

Movie was awesome!

Jetée 07-08-2007 07:14 PM

It has been less than ten minutes now since the credits rolled, and I cannot say enough about this movie; although I knew little to no back story prior to watching this live-action adaption, the premise was simple enough to follow. Be assured that I will follow up on wikipedia to learn more about the history of the Autobots/Decepticons, and then my "official" review of the film. :D

Incredible!

Oh... and...

Mondak 07-09-2007 01:27 PM

I agree with what has been said so far for the most part. This movie was awesome and I will definitely see it again. This is what is in your head as a kid. You imagine them moving like this and stuff. Great piece of entertainment. Plot? Who cares. They fight like the whole time. Great. Very fun

guthmund 07-09-2007 07:27 PM

More dialogue?

pshaw, fellow fans, pshaw. :)

This movie was awesome for what it was supposed to be...giant transforming robots kicking each others asses. Fantabulous. Can't say enough good things about it. Death match under the overpass? Great stuff.

I probably could have done with a little less dialogue in general. Except Optimus....everything that guy said was solid-freakin' gold. Maybe a little more Bumblebee/Optimus stuff like in the cartoon, but aside from a few brief moments (ARE YOU LADIESMAN217?) and almost all of the kid's stuff, he could thrown it all away and I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Not that I give a shit, because...well, giant transforming robots fighting, right?
