Borat the movie

How is it? Worth the hype?

Latch 11-04-2006 09:22 AM

I loved it.

So did the rest of the full theater. There were quite a few lines that we never heard because everyone was laughing too hard.

I'd say it's worth going and seeing. I may go see it again, but I'm not sure yet.

spectre 11-04-2006 01:55 PM

It was awesome. There was one scene, no spoiler and anyone that has seen the movie knows which one, that I was laughing so hard that it hurt. The movie is over the top, but it was awesome.

Charlatan 11-04-2006 05:25 PM

I am just loving the reaction of the people and government of Kazakhstan so much that I am not sure I want to see the film and spoil it.

rockzilla 11-04-2006 05:39 PM

My big question is how much of the material in the movie is recycled? I've seen all of the Ali G show, so how much of the movie is new Borat material?
And if this movie does well enough, do you think they'll make a Bruno movie?

Charlatan 11-04-2006 05:47 PM

They are talking about a Bruno movie and apparently the film is all new material.

JumpinJesus 11-04-2006 08:11 PM

I haven't seen all of Da Ali G Show so I don't know if any of it is recycled, but it is by far one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. We went to the 11 am showing and the theater was full.

highthief 11-05-2006 03:54 AM

Definitely worth the price of admission. Not sure it is as good as some of the critics are making it to be, and if you're easily offended by, well, anything, you might to give it a miss, because there is little he doesn't take a poke at (women, blacks, jews, rednecks, gays, America, etc) but it was a very funny film.

snowy 11-05-2006 11:46 AM

I feel like this movie has been shoved down my throat by the media. I literally could not watch Comedy Central this last week and the week before that without seeing something Borat-oriented just about every hour--some kind of promo or special bit.

So I'll be waiting for it to come out on video, and saving my money for James Bond.

I am normally a fairly reserved person and will just chuckle at really funny stuff, but I was shrieking with laughter during this scene. My god. It was freaking hillarious.

Shauk 11-05-2006 06:48 PM

oh wow, i just got back from this movie, it'll definately make the conservative type of people blush and/or feel offended, but HA HA HA, this movie was fucking fantastic.

and yes "The Scene" is easily on par with "The Scene" of Team America for shock value and laughter.

biznatch 11-05-2006 08:53 PM

Just saw it as well, and rarely did I laugh so hard for so long during a movie. I've seen a fair amount of Borat material on the net that was from the Ali G show, but the movie has enough of fresh unreleased scenes that are definitely worth the ticket. If you like Borat, you'll really like the movie.

Bah, don't sell yourself short because of lame media hype... the movie is definitely worth seeing in a theatre. Hearing and seeing crowd reactions adds to the experience greatly!

Jinn 11-06-2006 01:29 AM

Not for the sensitive.

FUCKING HILARIOUS, tho. Just saw it.

And that scene was fucking INSANE!!~

Porkchop 11-06-2006 07:37 AM

Have to get to the cinema to see this. Hilarious.

I've only started watching the show tonight and have seen two episodes. One idea was sort of reused (the Southern etiquette bit), but it was entirely redone with another group of people and was many times funnier in the movie. I'd imagine the rest of the movie was like that, if anything was reused, it was only the basic premise but with completely different jokes and reactions.

Daval 11-07-2006 05:12 AM

And in the movie they didnt have to hold back like they do sometimes on TV. Even HBO.

ratbastid 11-12-2006 07:23 PM

I'm just back from seeing it tonight... It was entertaining, but mainly my reaction was discomfort. I mean, really, tricking Americans into making asses of themselves is fish in a freaking barrel. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Val_1 11-12-2006 07:54 PM

This movie is hilarious. I loved it. Lives up to all the hype and doesn't get old at all.

There's not much recycled at all. A bit at the beginning for the set up, but that's about it. Well worth it.

Delirious 11-14-2006 04:38 PM

I'm getting sick of seeing Borat on all the tv shows.. He re-uses the same jokes over and over. It was kind of funny when he was on Stern and Howard asked him if he will ever do TV again. Borat said in his own way that he didn't know b/c he doesn't like working with that bastard ALI-G.

goddfather40 11-14-2006 09:43 PM

I am a huge fan of this movie, and was looking forward to it for the last couple months. It is fucking unbelievable how much run it is getting in the media and it is definitely starting to get a little tiring and repetitive, but the shtick still gets me laughing every time. Sacha Baron Cohen is really a modern day Andy Kaufman when it comes to immersing himself into his characters and really living their lives.

Ch'i 11-14-2006 10:03 PM

I saw it, and it wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. Still funny thought.

Bacchanal 11-15-2006 07:34 PM

Easily the funniest movie I've seen this year. What he did to Pamela had me crying. My favorite part/line in the movie, though, was when he said his wife's "vagin hangs like sleeve of wizard".

I can't believe the shit he does and manages to stay in character for. I'll definitely see it again before it comes out on DVD.

rockzilla 11-15-2006 08:36 PM

yep, I saw it and wasn't disappointed at all. The strangest thing about it was that there was an elderly couple sitting right in front of us, they were laughing as hard as I was, even during that scene.

kurtisj 11-27-2006 12:20 PM

the movie was hilarious, a lot of lawsuits are against him because of some of the material, some of the material in the movie was just priceless reactions that you have to see.

dboydbla 11-29-2006 08:30 AM

I must be the only person left who hasn't seen this yet. I wanna see it so bad. I've heard so many good things about it.

Loup 12-02-2006 06:45 AM

I finally got aroud to catching it in the theater ... and am so glad that I did not get a spoiler for that scene - as with most of the audience, I had tears of laughter. I don't usually go to comedies at the big screen, but am glad I did to Borat.

Redjake 03-31-2007 06:23 AM

Bought this for my SO yesterday.

What a let down. This movie is just not that funny. It's more amusing than funny. I laughed out loud 3 or 4 times, maybe. Overhyped very badly. Try watching the movie in your own quarters without a theater full of people, and the movie is very un-funny. It was like watching an episode of Cops or something. If I were flipping through the channels on a Sunday morning, and found Borat, it would be funny - but when you sit down and watch it on purpose, it's pretty bland. I don't understand where the hype came from. It was more awareness/amusing than funny. The huge "spoiler scene" that everyone kept talking about resorted to college fratty/crude humor to deliver. A nut sack in the face was the last thing I expected to be the monumentally funny part of a movie. The pentecostal church scene was much funnier. The church scene was the only true laugh out loud scene in my opinion.

I think this movie just got hyped up because it's probably funnier when you have a theater full of people to feed off of each other.

i was laughing with everyone else i guess. oh well. I'm glad i got the experience at the movies. once i saw it on DVD, it was exactly like you said. some parts are just simply funny but some others are boring.

"how fast should I go if I want to kill them?"
-"with this hummer, around 35-40miles." hhaha

biznatch 04-02-2007 11:14 AM

Yeah, I went to see it when it came out in theaters, so the room was full of people who were in a good mood. For that kind of movie, it really makes it more enjoyable.
I don't plan on seeing movies like Spider-man 3 on their release day, however, because it'll ruin the experience. You always get some assholes screaming, babies crying, etc.

laconic1 04-05-2007 05:59 PM

I hadn't seen this movie until just the other day. Some people I talked to said it was freaking hilarious, a couple of people said it was the dumbest movie they had ever seen. My reaction was in the middle. Yeah it was kind of funny, but some of it was dumb. My favorite part was at the rodeo when the guy was talking to Borat backstage, and the scene with the college guys. No wonder they sued him when the movie came out.

Nimetic 04-07-2007 03:35 PM

Yeah. It seemed pretty lame to me. I did like the bit with the bear and the kids though.
