It's Oscar Time!
The 78th annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live from Hollywood on March 5. Oscar nominations were announced this week. Cast your vote for best picture.

only one i've seen was Crash
|
Crash should win but it will go to Brokeback Mountain. Crash will get the screenplay award though.
|
I havent seen any of them at all and 2 of them I've never heard of lol
|
I've only seen "Brokeback Mountain." I saw the end of "Crash," and that's it. Want to see the rest eventually. :)
|
I haven't seen any of them either. Yet.
The only one I care to see is Good Night and Good Luck. |
So far, I've only seen two... but I'm not interested in all of them, either! I don't know if Brokeback Mountain will really win, there's often voter backlash against some movies for being "too" critically acclaimed. Crash was very well done, I thought... a little heavy-handed in promoting their ideas, but rather well done. I was pretty depressed after watching it, actually.
So yeah, I dunno. |
I've not had an opportunity to see any of them yet, though I want to see all of them at some point. I've heard good things about Crash, but I don't know anyone that's seen any of the others.
I wish I had an opinion... |
I've seen them all, and I liked each of them for very different reasons. They are all excellent films. Capote was my favorite.....PSH is a shoe-in for best actor. But I do think that Brokeback Mountain will win best picture. This film stays with you for a long time. I don't think Crash and Munich are best-picture worthy. They don't have the necessary edge to win. And I don't think the academy is ready to vote for films like Good Night, and Good Luck. Though I am eager for more films of this calibre.
|
I've only seen Good Night, and Good Luck and I thought it was a great movie. I agree that Brokeback Mountain will probably win. I haven't seen it yet, but it does seem to be getting the best buzz.
|
I've seen them all and they were all great films for different reasons...but I think Brokeback Mountain should win. It seems like the type that the Academy tends to favor as well.
By the way...was anyone else excited about nominations? I feel like such a geek because I get excited when the nominations come out  |
I've only seen "Crash," which I loved. But I have to go with "Brokeback Mountain," if only because of the hype. As the Oscars prove time, and time again, hype wins over anything else. Not that "Brokeback Mountain" isn't good, everyone I know who's seen it loved it, but...well, who knows.
|
i've only seen crash
usually i only see movies after they've been on DVD for a month nice to see that the nominees come from somewhat "independent" types of movies. |
I thought that Crash was alright. I thought it was a bit cartoony and I definitely don't think that it was Best Picture material. I think that Brokeback Mountain will win, but I don't think that it was a Best Picture either.
I think that there is a difference between "Best Picture" and what I would call "Best Film". "Best Pictures" tend to have a certain feel, like Forrest Gump. "Best Films" I consider to be the best film of a current year, like Pulp Fiction which lost Best Picture to Forrest Gump. "Best Pictures" tend to be studio films, or at least have a studio feel to them. They tend to be well-made, but don't push the envelope much. For me, "Best Films" are films that challenge both the average viewer and other film makers to think differently about the medium. An interesting tidbit about the Best Picture Noms: None of them have made as much money as one of the Best Documentary Noms (March of the Penguins). |
Picture: Brokeback Mountain
Director: Ang Lee Screenplay: Crash Actor: Philip Seymore Hoffman Actress: Felicity Huffman Gilda |
Unfortunately I have only seen one of the films nominated - Crash - so I can't offer a vote on this. I thought Crash was an excellent film with the only drawback being what I felt that some of the characters were a bit too stock for a film with such depth.
I'm hoping to see the others as well, but I doubt I will before the oscars are awarded. |
i've seen brokeback mountain, crash and bits of capote.
and i still think crash takes the cake. if brokeback mountain wins, it'll be out of sheer hype from the gay taboo the whole movie is based around. honestly, i thought it was an okay movie... but overall, not THAT good. there were scenes in crash where it felt like my heart literally stopped. it's a powerful movie. |

Go see Crash if you haven't! |
i thought capote should have won.
|
Seen all of them multiple times, best picture in my book is Good Night, and Good Luck. I've not been that impressed with a movie in quite some time.
|
I seriously can't believe that Crash won best picture. Easily one of the worst films of the year.
|
capote, GNAGL and Munich had 0 chance. It was always a two horse race.
And to say Crash was one of the worst films of the year.....well, I'll just say I strongly disagree and leave it at that |

Grrrr...I thought Crash was overrated. I thought the plot contrivances were too much and are what manipulated viewers into thinking it's message was strong. This review sums up well how I feel:
Link also, here's a previous rant from the "Crash" movie thread: Quote:

it's true about crash, although that didn't bother me too much...it was still pretty interesting to watch
munich was far worse than crash in my opinion it was not too exciting after hour 1 and whoever picked the music for munich should be shot...sheesh |
