How fast do you learn movie/tv quotes?

Just was wondering....it seems like a lot of people know tons of movie quotes, or quotes from the T.V. shows, and I was curious as to how fast you learned them. Did you learn them the first time around? Or a couple times? Or elsewise?

I have a major difficulity remembering quotes....since I don't really quote all that often, so I almost never can come up with them myself, but I do recongize a lot of the quotes since I instantly remember when I see it and the context it's used in.

It usually takes me a couple of viewings of something before it sticks in my head, and even then I still get it wrong sometimes. Sometimes it's not the quote from the movie/tv show that I remember, it's the use of that quote by my friends.

As far as quotes go...i suppose that would all depend on the impact that a particular quote has made on me. And, of course, we have the repetition factor. I can almost recite the dialogue in Cassablanca verbatum. We won't even get into the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Ditto... and add Airplane, Blazing Saddles and Caddyshack to that list as well as a few other choice movies.. A Christmas Story is another i can recite from beginning to end... (If only I could use this power for something useful...)

repetition is what does it for me... If i like a movie, i will happily watch it more than once...

Generally if I enjoy the film, I remember most of the memorable quotes after the first time watching it. Never from TV though for some reason.

Add to that History of the world part I, that I do I can quote like that. For a few quotes one or two viewings sometimes, if I liked the movie that is. I do now know how or why, but it sticks in my head.

It depends on how memorable the quote was. Something as generic and soppy as "Show me the money" is something that was blasted at pop culture.

I would speculate for myself that 2 viewings/listenings are enough for me to recite it if I really found it profound or funny. Being a Simpsons nut I used to have a challenge with a friend when doing my Undergrad were some point in the day I would use a Simpson's quote in a conversation with him within ear shot and he had to acknowledge it and therefore continue the quote...... yes I am a geek
