Phonebooth

I saw Phonebooth recently. I really didn't think it was very good. I did notice that the "scope" off the rifle is coming from multiple angles, which was BS. Don't know about that whole redirecting phone thing so he couldn't be found. It was just pretty unbelievable and kind of dragged. I didn't think it was to much of a thriller either. I've read reviews that say it wasn't a bad movie. What do y'all think about it?

Quadraton 04-20-2003 01:35 PM

The short movie, <a href="http://www.ifilm.com/filmdetail?ifilmid=2398940&cch=20" target="_blank">"End of the Line"</a>, which Phone Booth was based on wasn't too bad. It was suspensful, and pretty well done. Even the ending was pretty nerve racking.

However, that said, I think I'll pass on The Phone Booth. I have yet to see a Joel Schumacher movie that I've actually liked. Even the trailer looked retarded.

Watch Tigerland then.

I watched this over the weekend....

first the DVD was only in 5.1 which was annoying because I wanted to watch it in the bedroom and there is no Dolby Digital 5.1 in that room, so the first 5 minutes of the movie didn't have any dialogue from the people on the other end of the phone until he started talking to Pam and then it was just wasn't consistent.

Over all the movie was eh... I'd be interested in seeing the Kiefer Sutherland character again doing PB2 but actually doing more with the technology AND morality he was trying to impose on his victims.

Lord Humungus 12-22-2003 09:53 AM

i thought the movie sucked. they did a horrible job with the sound of the conversations over the phone. I didn't even sound like Kiefer was on the phone. I heard that they actually used someone else as the bad guy and later brought in Keifer to do the voice. You can totally tell. There was also a movie called "Liberty Stands Still" (2002), look it up on IMDB. Phonebooth is pretty much a rip-off of that movie, which was also terrible. It was such a waste of the $3.50 for the rental fee.

Most of the movies with Colin Farrell suck; Phone Booth, Swat, American Outlaw, Daredevil, and a few others that I can't remember offhand. My rule of thumb is to avoid paying to see any movie he is in and just wait until it hits cable :)

Good rule. I'll even skip it on cable though.

I just liked it because of Queefer Sutherland. He does a good voice-over.

Awesome movie...definitely recommend!

And Plan9, did you hate Daredevil totally or are you just referring to Colin playing BullsEye? I thought he did a pretty good job with that character.

I thought Daredevil horrible. I was actually embarrased for the actors that took part in this movie. Then again, I guess this movie was made for children anyhow, so I might be judging it too harshly.

I saw that. It had the lady from Vision Quest and MIB in it.
Linda somebody. (Sorry, too lazy right now to look it up.)
LSS was a pretty decent movie.
I haven't seen Phonebooth yet. It looked interesting, but how much can you tell from trailers these days?

Moskie 12-22-2003 11:12 PM

I liked Phone Booth, to a certain extent. I think it accomplished what it set out to do: show a character being brought to utter humility. The rest of the movie was pretty much just filler to aid that idea. The plot and supporting characters were, for the most part, extremely contrived... It's just one of those flicks where you have to pay attention to what it's trying to get across, and then just accept everything else it provides 'as is'.

Kyp 12-22-2003 11:32 PM

I saw the movie a while back, and thought it was good. Collin Ferrel is a good actor, you have to at least give him that.

Also, to the comment that you don't hear the other side of the phone conversations because it's only in 5.1... there is no other side of the phone conversations, you didn't miss anything. Even though I feel skeptical about that 5.1 thing, I'm not genius about this stuff but I'd think you should have no problems with sound no matter what.

Soda_BoB 12-23-2003 02:42 AM

eh, I didn't think it was too bad, kinda short, they should have put two stories in, thats what I thought they were going to do.. but I guess it wasn't tooo bad

ChrisJericho 12-23-2003 05:27 AM

It was allrght, it had a few good points.

brought the DVD out to the living room and it's in discrete 5.1 which means that the setup in the bedroom didn't decode it and it went to never never land. The phone convos had other sides to them, if you had turned on the subtitles you would have seen that there were other sides to the conversation. And even having read or finally heard them, no I didn't miss much.

Something in 5.1 doesn't sound anything like 2.0 at all, even in a video game.

or Lost Boys and Falling Down.....but on the whole Schumacher has made some terrible films....Phone Booth no exception

Dilbert1234567 03-30-2004 11:30 PM

i thought it was a kick ass movie, one of my favorite in a while.

viper11885 03-30-2004 11:34 PM

I agree with Moskie.

I liked how it made the main character reevaluate his values and do what was right in the end.

Wasn't the greatest movie, but it was just good.

Redjake 03-31-2004 07:24 AM

Collin Ferrel (or however you spell it) was excellent in the movie. It had me on the edge of my seat for the entire movie. My only complaint was the ending. It just pissed me off.

asudevil83 03-31-2004 08:32 AM

i would probably say that i enjoyed the movies, but the fact that Colin Ferrel is in it just ruined for me. to me, he's a poppycock, and i cant stand any movies that he's in. most of them are pure crap....Daredevil, SWAT (good god that sucked).
