Images of the Mandelbrot Set

Hi,
These are a few fractal images I generated using a bit of C code I threw together in a bored hour. They came out pretty well and I thought I'd share them to get your opinion:

All thumbnails link to larger versions hosted on my website.

I haven't made Mandelrots in forever :)

I used to us Fractint back on the 386 days....

Trippy! Looks like something under a microscope. Awesome.

Nice fractals... what's a vision like you doing in a place like this?

Thanks for the comments :)

My friend asked if I could generate some double width images for him to use as wallpaper on his dual monitor setup. Here are the results:

<a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-1.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-1.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 1" /></a> <a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-2.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-2.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 2" /></a>
<a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-3.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-3.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 3" /></a> <a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-4.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-4.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 4" /></a>
<a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-5.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-5.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 5" /></a> <a href="http://rjshade.com/showimage.php?image=/notes/images/morefractals/mandelbrot-wide-6.png"><img src="http://rjshade.com/notes/images/morefractals/thumbs/mandelbrot-wide-6.png" alt="Widescreen Mandelbrot 6" /></a>

I think these maybe better than the first set. There is something about the wide angle that makes them more visually appealing (at least to me)

Those are quite cool looking. I've never heard of these kinds of pieces before. So when you're programming, do you have a specific vision in mind, or is it almost random what you get?

hunnychile 07-24-2005 11:27 AM

Kinda reminds me of Todd Rundgren's Grokware...Warning Mandelbrots ARE addictive!

Its random...

When executed, my program picks a random point in the complex plane (within sensible limits) and a random zoom level. It will then generate an image of that point using a random colour gradient. Typically I will leave it running overnight and then sift through the resulting 100000 images to find the good ones. I can delete ~95% of them by getting rid of files < 20kB or whatever.

Awesome. And yeah, I like the second set better. The way they're cropped and elongated makes them more visually interesting.

Cool, thanks for the clever use of boredom. :)
