First acrylic painting

I was at my brother's house today, and we were playing a game of Hero Quest, which is an old board game with D&D-like characters, only it's more simplified and you use actual miniatures. Instead of using the miniatures that came with the game, he and his group of friends expanded the game so we can buy our own miniatures at a hobby shop, name their weapons and armor, and give them each a special ability. So I had my bro pick up a miniature, a brush, and some black primer for me while he was at the hobby shop, and he was kind enough to give me a free acrylic paint set which he had stacks of. So I went home, and I realized that the paint set came with a little canvas, so I decided to paint my first painting ever since high school. Here is the result:

This is a picture taken with a flash:

And here it is sans flash:

The reason why I took two pictures, one with and one without a flash, is because the one with the flash shows my brush strokes but doesn't show the true color of the painting. Although the non-flash picture is quite blurry, it is the closest I could get to capturing the actual colors used.

It's nothing special; I just started with a pattern and then went along with it. I didn't pencil this one it at all, and I didn't paint something tangible. It was all just out of my head. I tend to start and follow patterns whenever I'm doing freeform drawing, and figured it might work with paint.

Anyways, I'd appreciate any constructive criticizm you may have. I probably won't be doing another one for a long time, at least not until I get another free canvas to work on, but critique is always appreciated.

My godness you've made a new painting?! When did you paint this one?!

Nancy - I painted it on the day I originally started this thread. The system says it was Feb. 20. It took me about 20 minutes. It was a quick painting; nothing like the other stuff I did in my high school painting class, which took me days to complete just one painting. I found that when you're not actually painting something, but rather just letting your imagination guide your brush, it's easier to finish the painting in a timely manner.

animosity - Thanks! I know it's not much, but hey, I'm no artist. I wish there was some way I could take a detailed picture with the true color of the painting. I could scan it, but I'm afraid that might mess up the texture of the actual paint on the canvas.

i am new to TFP - and i have noticed that ppl are very helpful in giving suggestions on other peoples' artworks. i think its important to be honest and helpful, however - i also think that many people dont point out the good enough - and often focus on what can be improved upon. Even tho you havent got much "constructive criticism" from ppl on this painting, i have noticed on this site that ppl like to offer it to others freely. i have a huge problem with what is considered "consrtuctive criticism", and although some may say that the reason why i dont take well to cc is because i cant handle the truth - that is not why i dont like cc. i dont like cc because i think ppl go about it all wrong, out of ego and fear. i like to focus on the positive first and foremost - i think that is what makes ppl and their work stronger - to "build" ppl up, etc. i am not insecure - i know my art and my other works are good, and still i know theres always room for improvement on my stuff. i just think most ppl are so willing to offer how things could be better. they do this, in my opinion, because they are so afraid of seeing the good qualities of things - or rather - expressing the good qulalities of things....Well, I say - to your painting, its awesome - and i actually dont see anything wrong with it - its art and its actually a very beautiful painting - experience or no experience..thx for posting it
