Well, I seem to have fallen on my feet here. Let's take these one at a time...
I made this one for a beer label, but could never figure out what kind of beer it would go on. I used a version of it as my avatar for a long time too.

I used to have a pet planet, and I had the animals classified as to the broad ecological niche they occupied. For "medium predators" I wanted to use a pather as the icon, so I put one together. This one.

Finally, I thought I ought to do something new for this thread, so Here's my baby kitty, Cobweb...

Suggestions for next week:
Things that go bump in the night.
Autumn leaves.
Band-Aids throughout History.

I really like the styling on that one, bernadette. The whole coloring not quite inside the lines thing, and particularly the arcs in the cat's eye. Makes it look like he's got the munchies a bit.

Clavus, those are some spooky kitties. Excellent, into extreme sports, but spooky. It's like that black one managed to catch the Black Rabbit of Inl&eacute;, and moreover, knew what to do with it.

Well, I try to be community minded. So if Nancy agrees to post some great photos of herself with the coaster in Tilted Exhibition, I'll send it her way. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Is anyone else suprised that neither Vermin nor GH have subitted something off the wall (i.e a picture of kitty litter, something related to the Broadway production of "Cats," a group of large tractors, etc.)?

Ok, I must admit: The reason I'm so bad at art is because I'm lazy. I'm too lazy to buy the supplies. I'm too lazy to move everything around in the apartment so I have room to paint. I'm too lazy to have an imagination.

now that's a real shame. But you know, you don't have to move furnitures in order to draw sketches in a book ;)

You can make realistic human beings and bad-ass subs but you can't make cats?! I have a hard time believing you! :p

Well, the only one that is "real" (ink on paper) is the one with the stars. I don't think a laser print would do that well if I coated it, stuck it to cork and poured resin all over it.

How about I send you two coasters - the cat with the stars, and a dog to match?

Four renderings of a cat head modeled in Solidworks. Took longer than I thought it would.

Wow! That's some cool looking stuff, vermin.
I've never heard of Solidworks. Is it bundled with Photoshop or something like it?
Or is it an independant program?

Whatever it is, those are some pretty sharp looking pics. :)

Engineering software. 3D CAD, basically. It has a photorenderer with it that lets you save a screenshot as a jpeg. These were then re-sized in MSpaint.

The problem with using engineering software for something like this is that everything needs to be dimensioned. Typing in numbers instead of just sort of random sketching. Everything has to be planned in order to make it look like anything.

So in other words, you had to go through probably four times the steps than if you used a normal program?
