scanned an old pastel drawing

if you haven't heard, we're remodeling our entire house this year.
the past few days i've been slowly moving all our office stuff to the master bedroom (we're sleeping in the now finished guest room).
anyway, i ran across this yesterday & scanned it real quick before we dismanteled most of the computer equipment.
this computer gets moved tonight! i'll be offline then until tomorrow morning (daylight) when i'll climb atop the roof to switch the internet cables from one room to the other.

1996 - i drew this with chalk pastel whilst my husband was watching television.

it's not amazing artwork or anything.
it's just proof that i did indeed once play a short while with chalk pastels. :)
i think with all the colors, it's a bit reflective of the mid-90s trends. hahaha

once i get all my computer stuff reconnected in the other room, i'll try to scan or photograph some more old works.

kinda hoping next year, when all the remodeling is completed that i may just get my hands dirty again & pick back up the traditional tools....

Your 'not amazing' is my 'amazing', bernie. :)
Really good piece. Me likes.

ARTelevision 08-16-2004 03:34 PM

...the color is amazing.
Thanks for showing it to us, bernadette.

Be careful on the roof!

CBlend 08-16-2004 03:47 PM

I think it's really well done.

TheShadow 08-16-2004 04:20 PM

I love the colours you use - they give the drawing a lifelike glow. I'm going to have to agree with Fremen and say that this is, in fact, an amazing piece of art!

(I especially admire how you've done the eyes. The pupils look so real!)

Hail Bernadette!

That's great work.
I demand more at your earliest convenience.
Good luck, as always with the house.
Remodeling my house put a hurt so bad on my wazoo that even now I am not fully recovered.

I am clenching as I remember.

that's really beautiful.
i'd love to see any other pastel you have
or
i'd encourage you to get back into it
and do something in this medium soon.

i find it nice to see non-computerized work,
even if it is on computer.
that said,
i feel it is mine turn to share.
i'll post something soon.

thanks for the inspiration, ma'am.

bernadette 08-16-2004 08:43 PM

aww gee whiz, thanks guys. *brushes toe in the dirt*

hubby is on the way home.
in a few minutes this computer goes unplugged.
AND... hubby thinks we can get up on the roof tonight with a flashlight!!! omg

oh! the signaling barking dogs tell me he's home.
if i fall off the roof... well, it been super great knowing y'all.
<3

if i don't fall off & all goes well, see ya later.
& eventually i will get ya some more old bernie doodles.

animosity 08-16-2004 09:26 PM

wow, this is great! I love your use of color here. it looks so real.

bernadette 08-16-2004 10:17 PM

HOORAY! i'm back online!!! only took an hour & a half.
of course, all my other equipment still needs to be set back up, but it's in place & readied for the hook-up. :)
hubby is exhausted from working too many for the past couple of months, so i can wait until tomorrow night for the rest to be re-connected.

and dang! omg i was so nervous about climbing on the roof in the dark.
i guess i'm getting weird paranoid in my aging years.
(hubby is more scared than i am. i always have to climb the ladder to hang the christmas lights. he hands them to me. lol)
it was the ladder part, getting up there & down that made me nervous.
once i was up on the roof i was superwoman! haha

AND YEAH DOODLEBIRD! POST YER STUFF!

& thanks again everyone for the kind & motivational words.

Mad talent bernie.....you've brought him to life more than any photo could.

Thanks for sharing.

Can't wait to see more early bernie work.

Bernadette... that was great... (psst... in case you didn't notice, he's a handsome devil).

Good luck with the house, I too am in the midst of yet another slight remodling of my house. I sympathize.

Erasmusred 08-18-2004 10:42 PM

That is awesome. I wish any of my failed attempts at art looked half as cool as that one bernadette.

Nancy 08-19-2004 02:05 AM

So very impressive bernadette!

But why isn't his right eyelashes emphasized with black like the left one? that eye just seems less visible when it's not emphasized...

pinkie 08-19-2004 03:19 PM

I like it a lot. Very colorful.

nancy, thanks.
heh. probably it's cuz i just quit & never finished the drawing.
at that point in time, i started many things with intention of finishing them later...
time elapsed. then i was afraid to touch them again.
i am sure this is one of those times cuz the blending on the right side looks very not blended, raw & unfinished to me.

thanks again everyone for all of your kind words.
maybe next year when the remodeling is completed, i have my days quiet & alone again, perhaps... i'll dabble once again...? i'm kinda getting the bug to do so.
oh! & i found some photos of a few other old pieces i did back when.
i'll try to scan a few of them soon.
