Water colors

I just finished a water color drawing for my dad's birthday next week. He's always been a keen hunter in his spare time hence the subject.

I thought this time I'd show you guys how I make my water colour pictures step by step so here goes:

First step: the sketch

second step: coloring all the light spots

Nancy 07-06-2004 02:23 AM

third step: adding dark colors and shadows..

and Voilá!:

I hope he'll like it...

I think it's beautiful, but I'm concerned that he might blow it away... (Wait, that's not a buck. He'll hold his fire. ;))

believe me it's not. If only you knew how many times I cursed during the colouring part!

it turned out pretty well - I'm.. 90% satisfied with this piece of work

I know it's harder than it looks. I can't paint worth a squat, so I stick with colored pencils.

Nancy, lovely sensitive stuff. Great drawing, beautiful animals. Why in heaven's name does your dad want to go out and destroy such beauty? Just curious.

you should ask my father that question. I suppose it's his instinct and the thrill/excitement of the hunt itself.

thank you spanxxx! :D

I've forgotten a lot because I haven't used water colors in years but I'm slowly getting better at it :)

I have always appreciated art from the heart and soul, and the hard work that goes into the artwork.

I am amazed Nancy :icare:

You forgot to paint the cross-hairs...or does your dad use iron sites?

Nice work. I've never been able to manage watercolors myself.

that would be awesome! I could take up pixel art and then we could both make something and compare! My first attempt would be a disaster no doubt

I'm done with pixel art for now though! lol I decided it was a waste of time and I'm back to creating larger works(although now I'm working in a series) that would be cool though ^__^;;

Those paintings are excellent, Nancy :)

I haven't played with water colors since I was a little kid. My paintings looked nothing like that, thought ;)

That's pretty.

Any reason for the lack of contour lines and definition around the babies head?

I'm impressed that you noticed that. I realised that I had forgotten to define those lines some time ago so I've already fixed it :)
