Tattoos for the 21st Century: A work in Progress
Usually I have a steadfast rule against posting pieces that aren't done, since often they can be confusing, and not give the intended effect of the finished piece, however here's one that I've been working on for about a week on/off.
The piece is influenced by the organic-style paintings and tattoos of Guy Aitchison, with some of my own imagery thrown in for good measure (specifically the eyes and the face in the background). The piece is fully finished now, as of last night, however I haven't yet taken pictures, since I feel that there are a few little details that still need tweaked. Since these pictures were taken, the large blank space starting from the center of the left edge wrapping to the top right hand corner has been shaded/partially colored and the red in the bottom right, along with the above mentioned swirl have both been re-outlined with very bold black lines to set them off from the middle- and back-ground (almost as a sort of "frame"). Any commentary on what would make the image work better, specifically as a tattoo-style design are greatly appreciated. The full image: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...hison_full.jpg The Aitchison influences, along the with the (now finished) blank area: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...razycorner.jpg One of my favorite tattoo images, the lotus flower: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...LotS/Lotus.jpg The face in the background: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...acecloseup.jpg My "signature" (a stretched flesh-like space with an inset human eye, common to many of my newer pieces): http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/.../eyecorner.jpg Also, it's not apparent in the photographs, but most of the orange (especially the glow around the top of the lotus, and the highlights on the orange organic figure to the left) are a bright neon color, which adds a feeling that the objects are glowing. |
cool teeth!

Thanks! I'm going to try and post some finished pics up by tomorrow night. I'm not entirely satisfied with the finished piece (I think it could be a little better), but I'm interested to know what people think of the finished product.
|
i really like this. cant wait to see the final product.

Magic, Majik! This is really good. It is really individualistic, and looks really new - although I'm not very knowledgable about what's going on in the world of tatooing.
I just wonder about one thing - the edges. Somehow this masterpiece ends up on some part of someone's body - so how do you treat the edges of the image? |
animosity: Hopefully tonight I can get pictures of the finished piece. Thanks for the kind words.
Lewis: Thanks! The designs are definitely a little unique, but I can't claim it as totally my own creation, since it was heavily influenced by the work of Guy Aitchison ( www.hyperspacestudios.com ). The edges are definitely an issue that would have to be re-worked should this image actually be tattooed on someone. This piece plays with the edges in a way that would more likely be found in a painting or something more traditional. However with moderate tweaking, the edge problem could be taken care of to accomodate the skin/ink adaptation. |
Looks pretty sweet!

i enjoy checkin your work out...........good stuff always.

Thanks, choskins and flyman! It's always nice to hear back on whatever I've created.

Outstanding work majik. I really really like the lotus. Keep up the awesome work...i love looking at all your creations
|
Wow, really impressive. Keep finding myself going back and looking at the face, then the lotus, then... pretty much every part of it hehe.

Many thanks matteo101 and raist!
I'm currently trying to finish a series of pieces for a very very special girl (one of those cheesy 80's movie, she's pissed at me, but these drawings and mix tape will bring me into her good graces once again situations), but after that I'll hopefully have a few new pieces to share (including a couple pieces requested by TFP'ers). |
i like that face is the background a lot. It has good style attached to it and just brings a smile to my face looking at it. Bravo!
btw i just recently skimmed your other art threads and instead of posting on all of them ill just say i love your art, its put some more thought into my first tattoo (ive been thinking about doing a band logo of some sort, the ace of spades from motorhead or one of the crazy things monster magnet has came up with over the years). keep up the amazing work and your a shoe in for art school |
Incredible work. I especially like the face in the green area and the 2 floating eyes in there. The thing im confused about is whether this is going to be an actual tattoo or is it just tattoo inspired art?
|
skinnymofo: thanks for the comments. I appreciate your words on not only this, but my other creations!
ForwardtoDeath: This is just a piece of tattoo-inspired art. It's not actually designed to be a specific tattoo, although parts of it are images from tattoos I've seen, or at the least somewhat influenced by actual tattoos I've seen. As has been pointed out however, the sharp edges and the general composition would make applying it to the flesh difficult (although the general idea could be re-worked into an actual tattoo design). |
