Done earlier this year with photoshop 7 its much smaller than the original so I could attatch it...

I started with a white canvas, nothing previously made. and yes filters were used and some of them ARE obvious but theres no reason not to use a tool in a program just because you can see it. you use it to create a certain desired effect, just the same as zooming in or anything else...

the twirl filter is way overused, but this is one of the better peices i've seen it used in

I agree on the amount its used. I like the 3d effect it creates when you use it on a grid though. Also useful for blending colors.
