New Painting

Hey guys, I just finished this painting last week. First painting in over 2 years... been too busy.

It's just a little 12"x12" oil painting of part of a photo I took last year at beach in the Galveston area of the gulf.

Good work Miko!

The sky and water look mighty fine.
I will be there in a couple of weeks.
I wish the water there looked so blue.
I'd like to see a Portuguese Man o' War bobbing by for a little element of danger, but that's just me.

More please,
-GH

I like your style.

Thanks newtx!

Giant Hamburger, thanks!
Actually... it was weird, the water was bluer than normal that day.
Here's the pic i based the painting on... I do remember punching up the blue a little when i processed it through photoshop.

The painting is a spot on reference to the picture - very nice work!!

Nice job. But I keep imagining the swimmers getting a fishhook in the leg.

I know, right!
That's why I went swimming a few hundred yards down the beach. :paranoid:

Fantastic!

Oh, what a mighty fine piece this is. It is something i would like to hang in my home on the waterfront, if I had a home on the waterfront. But that matters not, this painting is remarkably-superior and a glorious scenic picture is portrayed.

Did you take the picture yourself? Where at?

Thanks!

Yes, I took the pic last year at Surfside Beach. Gulf of Mexico about 30 miles west of Galveston, TX.

I actually prefer the painting over the reference photo. The guy with the fishing pole looks more like a kid in an oversized cowboy hat, which I find has a lot more character. Great work, and welcome back to the world of paint :)

well done miko.
i'm always impressed by those (like you) who can paint.
best i can do is draw with a brush.
there never ends up being anything painterly about it.
but you've really used the medium well here.

i hope you are able to find the time to do more.

That's deeply moving. I used to love to go to the beach with my family when I was younger (and still do now with my family), and this really takes me back there. Your skill is excellent. Thanks so very much for the memories!
