Brazillian waxing and YOU!

Huzzah! Today was the second time Martel and I went in for a brazillian wax. I was expecting it to be as painful as the first time, but it wasn't. As in, ripping a band-aid off your forearm hurts worse :)

I just wanted to share with you ladies because I know I was timid as hell about getting one done the first time, and I was very pleasantly surpised at how much less it hurt today. And yeah, it hurt the first time, but it was the kind of pain that you can handle without getting angry at it or wishing it would go away- unlike cramps (at least for me). I hope I can inspire some of you to go try getting a brazillian, because O.M.G. are they EVER worth it when it comes to sex!

:D

StormBerlin 06-17-2005 03:37 PM

I got a Brazillian once in my life, and I doubt I'd do it again. It hurt so bad... seriously, pretty damn close to the worst pain of my life. I'm glad it didn't hurt too badly for you. I think it'll hurt the same if I got it done again because almost a year has passed since my last one, and all the hair has grown back.

Squishor 06-17-2005 03:59 PM

I got my first one ever month before last, and went back for the second time a couple of weeks ago. I actually thought about starting a thread: My First Brazilian!

The second time was definitely a lot easier. Maybe not as easy as ripping a bandaid off your arm, but easier for sure. My only complaint is it seems to grow back too fast but it's still better than shaving. It's definitely the way to go for smoothness and soft silky sensuous sensation!

snowy 06-17-2005 04:10 PM

I soooo want to get one. How long do you have to let the hair grow out before you can get it waxed? I keep myself shaved just about as well as a Brazilian would keep me waxed, so there's a lot of hair to grow back :D

I think the pain would be worth it.

Sweetpea 06-17-2005 04:23 PM

It's not painful for me . . . my waxer said it is for some women and not for other's depending on how you are shaped. It hardly hurts at all . . . i would recommend anyone try it at least once . . . :) I've had great results and recieving oral sex when you've been waxed . . . is the best :D :D

Mine lasts about three weeks, two weeks totally bare, i do the full wax . . . front to back . . . it takes about 35 mintues and costs 40 dollars.

as i said . . . try it at least once! :) You'll love it!

I had the pleasure of trying once for a very special occasion. It really is a smooth lovely result worth experiencing at least once. Didn't hurt too badly at all. Perhaps I'll have it done again soon for another reason...or season.

Go for it - the gentlemen appreciate it too!

Sage 06-17-2005 06:54 PM

I think a lot of the pain would come from how good your waxer is- the tighter they pull the skin the less trauma there is to the follicle when they pull out the hair. SO, shop around before you find a waxer, ladies!! I accidentally stumbled into the #1 rated waxer in Western NC, and she's great!

And sweetpea, where the crap do you get it done for $40??? ours cost $60 each! :)

Squishor 06-17-2005 07:22 PM

Mine is $45. I haven't shopped around but it seems reasonable. She said it'd be more if I had more hair.

Sage 06-17-2005 07:25 PM

Well, I suppose you guys live in Cali, where I'd imagine it would be in higher demand. I only found two salons here in Asheville that do full brazillian, and of the two the one we're going to now is cheapest by about fifteen dollars.

*sigh* I just want to get electrolysis and be done with this whole "hair" thing....

/me repeats the question :)

seems like when the discussion of waxing comes up, this is always on somebody's mind. ... mine included.

regarding the pain ... i've heard there are a couple different kinds of waxes, some hurt more than others, and it depends on the salon/what they use ...

Squishor 06-17-2005 10:57 PM

I was told to let it grow out to half an inch. As for how long that takes, I guess it varies.

The better the waxer, the less pain there is... You really want an experienced waxer...

and like having your eyebrows waxed, the worst part is the tweezing to get the hairs the wax didnt/ If the waxer is good, she'll be really quick - but if she's not good... well.... I'm sorry :( :D

Squishor 06-18-2005 08:42 AM

Mine just leaves the strays and I find them later and have to shave them. :( I'm not sure she's really that good.

Sage 06-18-2005 10:20 AM

A good waxer most definitely does NOT leave any strays- also, they should never wax the same area twice. Mine will wax an area, then go back and tweeze all the big long hairs the wax didn't get. I still have a few thin blonde hairs to take care of when I get home, but that's only because my waxer couldn't see them under the bright lights she uses.

Shop around for a good waxer squishor, cause it sounds like yours isn't very good :(

raeanna74 06-18-2005 11:39 AM

My legs don't even wax well. My hair is fine and smooth and rooted tightly. Even waxing my legs leaves some hair behind. I don't tolerate the pain well either. I couldn't even go through with the whole brazilian wax thing. After the first rip I couldn't stand the pain any longer. I wish I could find someone who could do it without as much pain and without costing so much I'd be willing to try it again.

diddagirl 06-18-2005 01:04 PM

I am the wimpiest waxer ever! I found the Brazilian actually hurt less then my legs. It is absolutely worth it in my opinion.

My waxer had me grow it out for three weeks before coming to her for the first time, half an inch or longer is preferred to get maximum results.

So, the last time I had mine done, the lady commented, "Oh look, your tummy puffs up when you're stressed!" She told me I looked like a puffer fish. :|

gosh, that's rude :( I'm sorry!

You should get a new waxer . . .

my waxer says she feels it's part of the service to "help the client feel relaxed and keep their mind off the process by keeping them distracted."

raeanna74 06-18-2005 02:09 PM

How do you find a good waxer? Without going through trial and error?? most of the women I know are on the lower income strata and wouldn't spend the money on it so asking friends is as helpful as asking a man.

Supple Cow 06-18-2005 02:47 PM

As appealing as nice, smooth woman parts sound for sexual fun, it seems like it will be a cold day in Hell before I go in for a wax. My skin is very sensitive and pigmented... it breaks and scars very easily. I've actually tweezed most of my hair down there before (very. carefully.), but only along the bikini line. Anytime I go near more central areas, the pain is unbearable. I can't imagine pouring hot wax over a large area and yanking on them all at once would be any better. :|

If anyone out there with uber-sensitive skin that scars easily tells me their experience was surprisingly unpainful, maybe I'll think about again. Anybody? Anybody??

actually me.

my skin is horribly sensitive and also scars easily at the slightest occurance. But with an experienced waxer who is adept at waxing sensitive skin, i've had no issues yet and i've been going for three months now.

Sage 06-18-2005 05:28 PM

raeanna- find all the salons in your area that do brazillian waxing. Ask to talk to the waxer- meet her in person if at all possible. Ask how long she has been waxing, where did she learn, how many waxes does she do a week- then ask her questions like how long will it last, how long should my hair be to get waxed, is there anything I can do before I get waxed that will help with the swelling and pain? The waxer should be friendly, expierenced, helpful, and be willing to answer all your questions. It's like going to an OBGYN- you wouldn't want a doctor that just comes in, lubes up a finger, and sticks it in your vagina. You want a waxer with great manners and a willingness to help you ease into the situation. Most waxers have been waxed themselves (my waxer actually waxes herself!) and understand what it means to be nervous about it. Perhaps you can ask the salon receptionist/owner if they have a list of clients you could call for recommendations- don't ask for a list of people who have had brazillians, but just for a list of people who have been waxed before and would be willing to offer a recommendation. Also, think about going to the waxer you're considering for something other than a brazillian to begin with- perhaps get your eyebrows waxed or get a bikini wax- that way you can see how good the waxer is without taking off your underwear!

good luck, and I must say I'm REALLY glad I've inspired so many of you!

This will sound really weird I bet, but I have never had a brazilian, and my boyfriend won't let me get one. He says it would be a turn off for him. But I am dying to try but I don't want to upset him either so I guess either I have to piss him off, convince him to let me, or get a new boyfriend!

daydream 06-28-2005 04:16 PM

I'm thinkin bout getting a brazilian but I'm sooo afraid that it will hurt... and I have very sensitive skin like Supple Cow and Sweetpea. I wanna try to get the guts up to just go and try it out but i don't know... Another thing is i'm worried about when the hair starts growing back. I shaved everything down there once and when it started growing back it was so itchy and uncomfortable.

Wull, it's not like it won't grow back.

Won't *let* you, hmm?

I have to come down firmly on the pro-brazilian side, myself. :)

JustJess 07-01-2005 08:13 AM

In terms of pain - DON'T GO THE WEEK BEFORE YOUR CYCLE!!!! That's when we're most sensitive. Also, go to a woman who is more used to your hair type. Eastern European? Good for the heavily/thicker hair. Chick from Ireland? Great for the finer threaded... Seriously, it makes a difference.

It's not for the faint of heart, and I'm sensitive there (in a "christ gods don't touch me there" kind of way) for a day or so, and then it's allllll good. Sensitivity? Not kidding, it's pretty friggin' cool. If it weren't for the cost, I'd do it more frequently. And touching and booty and oral.... everything is nicer. I can get a month out of it, easy, since I'm not a thick-hair type. Great if you can get used to it - most women tell me they do get used to it, de-sensitized a bit.

:D

Minx 07-06-2005 06:48 AM

This is something I have wanted to get done for quite a while now. The pain factor has always been what has stopped me though. *big chicken*

I have to try it though because I am sick to death of shaving down below everyday. Ugh! I also was curious about how long you have to let the hair grow before you get it done so thanks for the info! :)

Ralli 07-10-2005 12:10 AM

I dont get it done professionally. I shave myself.

Seeker 07-10-2005 05:10 AM

What about exfoliating? How prominent is the chance of ingrown hairs?

The only thing that has put me off waxing is a lady I once knew. I babysat her kids and her legs were scarred from waxing. Apparently she didn't exfoliate or not well enough at least, her hair grew inwards (as it grew out it balled up and did not come through the surface) and then got infected... apparently that can happen to some people. That frightens the life out of me!

Sultana 07-10-2005 05:25 AM

There are a couple things to do to avoid ingrown hairs. The first thing is to invest in a bottle of Tend Skin or Skin Relief, and apply that every other day or so where you've waxed. It's a skin calming liquid and also helps to keep the surface area exfoliated.
Another thing is to use one of those plastic mesh scrubby bath things to manually exfoliate in the shower.

Granted I've never had my legs waxed (and somehow I imagine that's more painful than...other areas!), but between these two things, I've not had a problem. I'm sure that some skin types have a larger problem with ingrowns than others, but I don't know specifics on that.

Grasshopper Green 07-20-2005 05:34 PM

Ok, any tips on how to find a waxer? I've googled for waxers in my area and came up with only one...did you just call spas and ask if they did it?

BritChic71 07-20-2005 08:47 PM

I have wanted to get one for SO long...just never have.

I had a boyfriend who wanted to shave me once, so I let him.
It was an incredibly sensual experience, and he loved it.
So we kept it up for a while, and now he's gone, I do it on my own.
It's never as good as when he did it though - I can't see! LOL

Anyway, he got a wax once, and I have to admit I loved it on him too.

So I want to get one, I'm just too chicken!! :)

Also ask if they are experienced etc. And ask about the wax system they use, some are better than others!

DazednConfused 07-22-2005 04:12 AM

While I love that Bare-Down-There sensation, I don't think I could do the wax. I am way too self conscious to let anyone other than my husband down there and we don't get down with the wax fetish stuff. ;) Nothing wrong with that though. We are both shavers and have been for almost 7 years now. I wouldn't change it. I'm so envious of those who do wax and have no isuues. Go girls!!

sapphire 07-22-2005 04:31 PM

I've never had one and always wanted to but was affraid of the pain but I guess now i'll have to try it, especailly now with all of your helpful tips. I'll let you know how it goes!

rearley03 08-03-2005 05:15 AM

I live in Western North Carolina and have wanted a Brazillian for a while. But I can not find a place near here that does it.

BlueBongo 09-09-2005 02:10 PM

I do have a question about all of this... I am hoping within the next few weeks when I get myself settled and have a free day to kinda pamper myself and get everything waxed... I know it's gonna hurt.. but I want to start getting this done regularly because I don't like the aftermath of shaving... (scary,....).
I'm planning on maybe getting everything below the neck waxed because that's something I've been wanting to do for years but have never had the finances to really do and keep up on.

How often do you think this would have to be done, even with the use of an inhibitor? I've heard a lot of variations from at first having to get this done once a month and then later on every few months... but I figured I'd ask here as I was kinda curious about this....

I know it's gonna hurt... but god damn I feel sooo much better not dealin' with the hair ;)
I was thinking, oddly, of getting my arms waxed too... I know that might sound a bit odd,.... but if I can keep up on it.. I think I'd feel better about that too... literally EVERYTHING below the neck because I'd feel soooo much better. :)

Just kinda want to see what anyone thinks or has to say about all that jazz. Thanks ladies. ;)

Sage 09-09-2005 08:14 PM

my waxer waxes everything below her waist! It isn't wierd! Anyway, probably about... two weeks the first time, then longer for it to grow back every subsequent time. Don't get it done all on the same day tho! Space it out over a couple of days. Oh, and expect the whole thing to cost around.... oh $300- that's how much it'd be here. $75 per leg, $60 for the brazillian, $40 for each arm, $15 for eyebrows... well, ok around $200. Good luck!

abaya 09-18-2005 06:17 PM

After years of merely trimming myself down there, I let my bf shave me in the tub a couple of nights ago. It was a really nice experience (except for having to hold myself up with my arms the whole time), though I didn't clean up as well as I'd hoped. I do like the idea of being hairless there, but I also don't like the stubble and hassle of shaving... it was itchy almost immediately!

So I'm thinking, maybe I should try waxing?

But ohhhhh the pain!! I have very sensitive skin down there... but Sweetpea is inspiring me. :D Will report back if I decide to do this (and if I can find something affordable and safe).

Sage 09-18-2005 11:19 PM

Well, Martel and I went back to get waxed on friday after taking about a two and a half month hiatus...

Girls, make sure you do it REGULARLY. It really does hurt less each time, I PROMISE! :)

zkara 09-27-2005 12:18 PM

Brazilian wax really does hurt the first time, but seriously, it's worth it. Nevermind about the man.. you will feel so much better about yourself.

First of all, it's the silky smoothness...nothing can top that. Secondly, you will never EVER have to worry about the ichyness of growth or stubble..especially for the dark-haired beauties out there.

My waxer charges only $30, and she's wonderful. She keeps up a stream of little comments and advices to keep you distracted enough. She's fast too, she takes only 20 minutes to get the job done. Just make sure that when she tells you to hold your skin tight, you-hold-it-tight!!!

It's worth it. No one I know that has had it done has gone back to shaving.
I have sensitive skin too. Your first time, you might be red and blotchy, but that's only for 2 days or so. After that, enjoy!!

I thought you had to wait until the hair grew back out to get it waxed again? That's what I don't like about the idea... that I have to go through the stubble-regrowth every month or whenever you get it done.

Sage 09-27-2005 07:32 PM

Oh, but the stubble is so much different! It's not harsh and prickly like it is when it grows back after shaving- it comes in fine and smooth, and gets more so with every wax you have! So it's like having... oh I dunno... fur- nice and soft. Martel and I went three months without a wax just a bit back, and our hair didn't ever reach that "too scratchy to have sex" point that it used to when we shaved. It was quite nice!

zkara 09-28-2005 08:42 AM

Exactly. The hair gets pulled out from its roots, so regrowth starts from the beginning, where the hair is fine and soft. When you shave, the hair shaft is basicly cut off halfway, and regrowth is just a 'continuation' of growth from the hair that's still there, where it's thicker and harsher, hence the ichyness, and dark stubbles. Oh oh..and they grow back less the more you get them waxed.. for me anyway.

abaya 09-28-2005 12:57 PM

Wow, this fine-hair stuff is something new to me. I'm definitely getting more courage to try it now! Thanks ladies. :)

zkara 10-07-2005 09:11 AM

Oh oh here's an update. I recommended my girlfriend to go to my waxer.. she's a wax virgin.. at 29, this is her first time going for a wax.... ever. We figured since she has baby fine blonde hair on her head, she couldn't be that thick and harsh down there.. thus less painful. She came back to work the next day and practically attacked me!! She was like 'Yeoww!!! That hurt like hell!!!'

After the weekend, she came back and said.. 'I loooove it!! I'm enjoying it a lot.. my man is nuts about how smooth I am!!! I'm making my next appointment.. no more shaving for me!!'

Later I found out her man had gone down on her repeatedly all weekend and she's had numerous orgasmic explosions... and it's just to die for... and thank you, zkara, this is awesome... sorry I pulled your hair out last week and stomped on your toes a few times.. but this is just fuckin' awesome...

Sweetpea 10-07-2005 12:21 PM

Well... i had mine done about six weeks ago, full back to front... i've never had a problem and had it done repeatedly before this last time ... but... my waxer didn't pull the skin tight enough when doing the most sensitive middle area... and it hurt so terribly for two whole days... i'm scared to go back now and i'm not planning on it! :(
anyone else had this happen with thei waxer?

Sweetpea

cellophanedeity 10-10-2005 05:14 PM

Alright, I'm really ignorant about stuff like this...

But is a full Brazillian wax when they take the hair off of your labia as well as on your mons? Do you need to show your bits to get it done? Does it hurt more or less than tweezing, generally?

I think I'd like to get it done sometime, but I have no idea what entirely it entails.

Educate me, darling goddesses of the forum!

Sage 10-11-2005 06:55 AM

A full brazillian is just that- everything! You wear a goofy pair of disposable panties, and those are always over the entrance to your vagina- they're shifted from side to side as the waxing is done. Yes, your waxer will probably touch your labia- least mine does, but some might ask you to do it. I'm totally comfortable with it, and there's no way it has a sexual slant at all- unless you're into getting your pubes ripped out by some woman you barely know :) It hurts more initially than tweezing, but less overall because so much hair is pulled out at once.

You come in, strip from the waist down, don the panities, then lie down. The waxer comes in, (should) shine a bright light on the area she's working on, then takes wax that has been heated to body temp and smears it on small areas. She then uses a linen strip to press onto the wax and pull it off. If she's professional, she should always pull it off lightning fast, and pull the skin taunt as she does so. The whole thing is over in about twenty to thirty minutes. It's a big adrenaline rush- the first time I did it I was sweating and shaking when it was over, just because of all the endorphins. And yeah, it hurts, but it's WORTH it- like losing your virginity or having a baby. Plus, it's not "hurts so bad I can't stand it." I'd rather be waxed than be nauseated :)

Before you get a full brazillian, you might want to just get your bikini line (everything that shows when you wear a bikini) done. That way, you can see how good the waxer is, if you like her/him, if you will have a reaction to the wax, and get a nice preview of how smooth you'll be when you get it all done.

Best of luck!

raeanna74 10-11-2005 10:28 AM

I never knew about the hair growing in finer and softer. My draps don't match the curtains and down there I'm black, wiry, and curly. It would be so nice to at least have SOFTER hair down there when it did grow back in. I probably should at least try getting it done professionally. I just can't bring myself to spend the money. It seems like so much more than a couple razors and shaving cream.

Then there's the fear of the pain. I tried a waxing kit at home, got the wax on no problem, stuck the strip on, pulled the skin tight, ripped the strip off and YEOWW! Hubby promptly showed up in the bathroom door wondering what had happened. It only took about half the hair off (yeah I know it's supposedly more painful when it doesn't all come out) so I tried shaving over that. I was so red and raised for a couple days that I didn't want to even touch my legs. I was fool enough to try it again later. I chucked the whole waxing kit soon after.

cellophanedeity 10-11-2005 12:09 PM

hmm...

I will definitely think about trying this sometime then... when I get sick of shaving. :)

It seems to be quite costly, but think of it this way... you only have to get it done once every 6 to 8 weeks. I go once a month, so each time is less painful because there's less hair to remove. The rate I'm going, in a couple of years.. the hair will be so less and so fine that I won't even have to go anymore. I hope.

I did try a home-waxing kit years ago. Yep. it was awful. Most of the hair wouldn't come off, and most just broke off halfway. Needless to say, I chucked it. Be assured it won't be this way with a professional waxer.

I have dark hair. I used to have wiry and curly hair down there as well. But since I started waxing, the hair that grew back is soft and fine. Besides, they never get to grow any longer than half an inch as I go back every month.

My waxer always goes 'This is the price of beauty...but it's worth is, yes?'
And I always go 'Yes!!...OW!!!...yes yes..OW!!'
And she goes 'I knew you will agree with me.. everyone does'
'OW!!...mm hmm... mmpphhh ><...uhhh yes yes..'

:D Go for it, ladies. Give it a shot. And Sweetpea, change waxer, is all I can say.

Sage 10-17-2005 06:01 PM

No Scream Cream?

Has anyone ever heard of/used No Scream Cream ? I read about it in a review on folica.com (which I found out about thanks to Sweetpea and her amazing sugaring!) and it sounds really interesting. My waxer has told me that none of the over the counter benzo creams work for the pain of waxing, but apparently the chick on folica.com thought differently.

I'm going to try some homemade sugaring stuff... if that doesn't work I'll probably buy some Moom. Problem is, I'm such a wuss when it comes to ripping my own hair out (hell, I have a hard time tweezing in between waxes)- if this actually works it would be *awesome* as I could then (probably) do my own home bikini waxes. (hopefully)

Thanks ladies!

Alright.. I finally got this done along with lots of other stuff... and I am soooo happy I did it and will be methodically keeping up on it. :)

I was a lot more relaxed than I thought I would be... She said I must have a pretty high pain tolerance or something.. but it really wasn't that bad. (I'd say getting a tattoo on my ankle was worse.. and that didn't hurt a lot either)...

So I dunno.. I'm glad I did it and will be going back again in the near future. mmmmm.... hair is evil and shaving is too irritating. This rocks.

She didn't leave hair at all, so I appreciated that. But it involved everything front and back. I have to give anyone credit that willingly does that for a living.

Started by going in and taking everything off below the belt... put a towl over myself... she came in and had me move my legs in various positions as she waxed and took away all the evil hair. It hurt a little bit closer to those very sensitive areas, but still wasn't that bad. Took about 20 minutes... flipped over.. did the same kinda thing on my backside.. and that was it :P

Just thought I'd share as I was, and still am, kinda intruiged by this. but I am definently keeping up on it... I'd been wanting to do this for a really long time and am glad that I finally am... it's worth every bit of the $60.

Okay.. I'm done being redundant.... :) Just wanted to share. bye.
