Hey ladies, I figured I'd ask this here since we all seem to know so much about Birth Control.

I've been on the Ortho Evra patch for a year, but I've had this happen with ALL of the other birth controls I've been on.

I notice that during the second week that I'm back on the BC my discharge gets thicker ect... like I'm ovulating. I thought I wasn't supposed to ovulate when I was on BC? I'm not having sex so I'm really not worried about the pregnancy part, but just wondering. Does this happen to anyone else?

Birth control does a lot of different things to your body to keep you from getting preggers. Sometimes, it prevents ovulation because your body has so many hormones in itself it thinks it's preggers. Other times, however, and this is esp. true of low dose BC, it just keeps the possibility of an egg getting fertilized down. If you've ever watched the Discovery channel special on the miracle of conception, you'll see that it really is a miracle anyone gets pregnant! Not only do the secretions of the uterus have to be precicely right in terms of PH, consistancy, and hormonal balance to allow the sperm to even get to the egg, but once the sperm is at the egg both the sperm and the egg have to lose their protective coating (which is done through complicated release of more hormones) in order to mingle. Then, after that, the lining of the uterus has to be like Goldilocks' pudding- just right, not too thin or thick. So, perchance you are ovulating in the true sense, ie dropping an egg, but there's still a 99% chance (if you're doing it all right) that you won't get preggers! If you're still concerned, talk to your OBGYN!

ohhh the same thing was happening to me while i was on the pill...i just started the ring and i wonder if itll do the same thing :/
