Advice on different Pill brands

Hi ladies- I got a message from one of our guys (hossified) asking to post this for him.

My girlfriend is making the switch in her pill cause she is real moody etc... Just wondering if any of you ladies can offer some advice or any stories on these brands. She is currently taking Minovral (has been taking it for like 8 years) and is now switching to a lower pregesterone Aleese. I just hope something changes cause I am not happy with the side effects she is currently experiencing.

I don't have any experience with either of these brands. I've always been on Ortho-Tricyclen or variations of it. Any of you nice women out there know what these are?

For some reason my internet seems slow today and I'm having trouble finding exact dosages on the particular pills you mention. The MinOvral is actually called Norette in the U.S. The Alesse seems to have Levonorgestrel as it's particular formula of progesterone. Of the different kinds of pills I've taken in the past 4 years I've taken Desogestrel, and Norethindrone for the progesterone formulas and I'm currently on Seasonale which contains Levonorgestrel. It seems that the Seasonal has improved my mood and libido over the others besides the fact that I have fewer periods with it. I hope this works well for her. I have not had any negative side effects with it.

One key has been the relation of the progestrone to the estrogen in the tablets. In the Seasonale the dosages are levonogestrel 0.15mg, ethinyl estradiol 0.03mg. In the other pills the progestrone has been lower.

I hope this works for her. Give it time to take effect and if it doesn't help, don't give up. Encourage her to try something else. There are many kinds out there and everyone has their own best formula. Good Luck.

I'm afraid that side effects vary so much from person to person that any feedback we give is going to be fairly useless - birth control side effects are notoriously unpredictable. Also, they may lessen or go away completely after the first 3-4 months. It may take some experimentation until she finds the one that works for her. Good luck!

I was on ortho tricyclen low.. and that was horrible...but EVERY woman is different. I'm very moody as is and.. what works best for me is Yasmin. It's great. :)

I was on Alesse... not strong enough, had breakthrough and that licked ass...

Then tried Marvelon ? Took me over the top, wayy too many hormones for me, i went crazy...

What worked and what i took the longest was Tricyclen, go figure. It worked for me :)

Aleese sucked for me. OrthoTricyclen sucked too.

Zovia worked well for about a year.

I've been on Yasmin for a year and it's rearing it's ugly non working head now.

It just depends on your girl, she may have to try MANY different kinds to get the results she wants.

I just met a girl last night who got pregnant on the new Ortho Tri-low. She said she only missed 1 pill. I know in the past they have said if you just missed one you were fine, but I guess this one has such low doses if you miss one you might be up the baby creek!

I've been in love with Alesse the past couple of years. I don't even remember the brands I was on before, but the moodiness and nausea drove me crazy. Yes, you have to be careful about taking the pill at the same time every day, moreso than I used to be, or else I have spotting.
