Brazilians

So, I'm gonna go get my first Brazilian wax tomorrow afternoon, and I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips, advice, just a heads up on what to expect. Is it kinda like sitting in front of a gyno? Do they really have a numbing solution they can use? How long does it take for the hair to grow back? Sorry I'm askin so many questions, but I just called and made the appointment with Lexi and I didn't think to ask any questions :) Thanks for the help guys!

So I went. See my other post at the bottom. IT HURT!

cheerios 01-21-2004 11:05 PM

woah! no advice, but let us know how it goes!!

Truly 01-21-2004 11:50 PM

sounds painful! I know an esthetician, and she said that Brazilians, if done right, aren't too bad, but if done wrong.. watch out!!

Minx 01-22-2004 09:21 AM

I'll be checking back here to see how it goes for you StormBerlin as I was thinking about getting it done myself!

Please.....give us a report! :)

SiN 01-22-2004 10:02 AM

yup, i'll be watching this thread too. :)

i've heard taking 1-2 ibuprofrin beforehand is ok.

and i'm curious, how long is your hair before the wax?

Truly 01-22-2004 12:47 PM

Your hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch long in order to have any waxing done and have it be most effective.

StormBerlin 01-22-2004 02:14 PM

Allright guys, here I go... I'll give you a full report when I get back.

lurkette 01-22-2004 03:07 PM

Be brave, StormBerlin :)

Averett 01-22-2004 03:55 PM

I was going to have a Brazilian done once but I chickened out.. Just got the regular wax. Didn't hurt tooooo bad. But yeah, it's a bit uncomfortable.

I normally shave, so when I got it done I let the hair grow out a little while, and the woman who did the waxing recommending growing the hair out for 2-3 weeks, then using a trimmer to get it down to 1/4 inch. She told me that when you shave the hair grows at different rates, so I had a few short hairs that didn't get removed with the wax. She just used some tweezers to clean the area up.

I only had it done the one time, but if I had somebody who would actually be seeing the wax job, I'd have it done often.

StormBerlin 01-22-2004 06:06 PM

My hairs were too short! She told me to wait another week before she would try. She did a strip on me to show how the hair wouldn't come off, and it hurt so much worse than anything else I could have done to my body!

Averett 01-22-2004 06:39 PM

So will you go back to get it done??

StormBerlin 01-22-2004 07:01 PM

Totally. I can't wait.

gabshu 01-22-2004 07:02 PM

How long did the pain last? If it was just temporary you should go ahead and get it done, they look super nice.

Averett 01-22-2004 07:51 PM

When I had the regular bikini wax done it didnt hurt for very long. Bit old RIIIPPP then stinging, then it was okay. Of course then youd have another rip on another section ;)

onodrim 01-22-2004 09:56 PM

I too have always wanted to get a Brazilian wax done. Mostly I don't have the time or money right now. But I too will be anxiously awaiting the full report when you get it done for real. Good luck! :)

CinnamonGirl 01-23-2004 02:17 AM

Yikes...I've always wanted to have one done, but I'm a HUGE wimp when it comes to pain...I'm afraid I'd scream or pass out or something.

StormBerlin 01-23-2004 11:20 AM

She did a small strip to show that she wouldn't be able to pull much hair, and now that spot is all red and spotted. And, it's still tender :( Rethinking this whole deal....

Averett 01-23-2004 01:50 PM

It's probably tender because the wax had more contact to the skin then to the hair. Did she rub any lotion on the area after? When I got waxed the woman did... And she told me to do the same that night. The redness went away by the next morning.

You've gotta go through with it. Do it for the Ladies Lounge! ;)

Angel 01-24-2004 02:00 PM

*curiosity running amok*
Can't wait to get a full report. I hope your tenderness goes away soon. Perhaps you needed lotion as Averett said.
I don't have the guts to do it so it is interesting to see things unfold for a first timer.

That was funny.

sexymama 01-24-2004 07:44 PM

I've had a brazalian, and will have many more! Here is a full report.

You are asked to strip from waist down and sit with feet bottoms together, then lay back.

Wax is heated, you are given a magazine to read; but I talked with the gal the entire time -- more fun for me.

Warm wax is applied, patted with strip, then pealed back. Some spots were more tender than others; but overall no big deal. It was kind of strange to have my "private areas" examined closely as she plucked the few stray (short) hairs.

I have a high pain tolerance and was not bothered in the least. The gal mentioned several times that she couldn't believe how I didn't squirm; but I did say "ouch" several times.

After I got home I rubbed some non-scented lotion in. That brought down what little bit of swelling I experienced.

The Brazalian lasted well over a month. Once Lebell and I are married and living together full time, it will become part of our budget as it is well worth it! I like it MUCH better than shaving and the risk of cutting myself!

Good luck! I hope you enjoy the results as much as I do!

Gwenllian 01-24-2004 08:49 PM

I so want to get a Brazilian wax, but I am too afraid to call a place up and ask if they even do them. *chuckles* Maybe...someday.

Thanks for the full report, sexymama. It is good to be informed.

sexymama 01-25-2004 09:57 AM

Call -- it is no big deal! They don't know who is on the other end of the phone. And once you get there, if the person is use to giving Brazalians, it is no biggy to them.

FYI -- I forgot to mention just how wonderful it feels to be clean and hair free! Well worth it!

sillygirl 01-25-2004 11:34 AM

Spas and salons are used to having people call and ask about Brazilians, along with many other services. No one considers it a big deal, it's not a taboo topic. :) At the spa I worked at, we got calls about it all the time, and the esthetician that does waxing at any spa is going to be professional enough that it's purely clinical to them anyway. Just make the call, it's easy! :)

CinnamonGirl 01-26-2004 02:39 AM

It lasts a whole month? With no little stubblies or anything?

Okay, forget the pain...I'm just going to have to suck it up.

Unga 01-26-2004 02:56 AM

I've been thinking about that.
Getting too lazy to shaaaveee! Also, "stubblies" (haha :) ) are the worst!

Exactly why I don't want to go back to shaving! A brazalian last 4 - 6 weeks and no stubble!

Lexi 01-26-2004 08:39 PM

I was the first to go in (StormBerlin didn't find out until after mine was done that she couldn't :()

I dropped 50 bones on it, and I'm glad I did. The lady that did it for me was soo nice, and made me feel totally comfortable. It was nothing like a pap smear because the room was cozy, there was a comfortable bed to lay on, and she had music playing. I was fairly shaggy (no sex and having just gotten off of a 2 week long freakish period to blame :)) so the length was not a problem. I won't lie though, it did hurt. More than any of my piercings, because after one strip was ripped off, you had many more to look forward to. But it wasn't unbearable. 20 minutes of pain is worth a month or more of not having to shave every few days. The most sensitive area, I found, was the area between the thigh and the hoo-hah :p, right where they meet. She rubbed lotion on the whole area directly afterwards, which helped sooth it immensely. My main mistake was going out that day sans underwear. If you're gonna do it WEAR COMFORTABLE COTTON PANTIES! I cannot stress this enough. StormBerlin will attest to that... I was walking funny for the rest of the night, thanks to the chafing. Hehe.

The day after there was a little splotchy discoloration, and it was still a little painful. Now that it's been a few days, it looks great and it isn't overly sensitive.

And there's also the reward of my boyfriend not being able to keep his hands off of it when I'm naked. :D

Minx 01-26-2004 09:30 PM

I'm so torn! (oh...no nasty pun intended!)

I really want to get this done but truthfully the thought of having to grow it out to get it long enough is like ewwww!

I'm to used to shaving every day but oh Lord I would love to get this done and not have to worry about that for 4 - 6 weeks?! HEAVEN! :)

I have a high pain threshold....if all I have to do is put up with the "growing out" factor and then I am so doing this!!!

How long is long enough? *blush*

Mental note to self......Self, buy some comfy cotton undies! :D

onodrim 01-26-2004 09:56 PM

Thank you so much for the reports! I've wanted to have it done for a while, and now I'm convinced I must do it. :)
Shaving every few days can really be a big pain, but unfortunately I'll have to wait till my budget can handle it to get the wax. :(

diddagirl 02-05-2004 09:07 PM

I just got my first Brazilian done today! It wasnt half as bad as I expected. I am lucky however though, because I naturally dont grow a large amount of hair, so the Waxer said it was very easy to do. Appears to be a bit swollen in some places, but other wise it looks and feels great! Much better then shaving!

lucidity 02-08-2004 06:44 AM

You know, I respect all of you who get Brazilians. Just isn't my deal. I'll shave every day if I have to, it's plain habit anyway. :)

PorscheBunny 02-08-2004 06:51 AM

That sounds more painful than childbirth to me. Unless they give me an epidural first, I'll pass on this experience.

StormBerlin 02-24-2004 10:22 PM

Ok, sorry this took so long guys, but I finally went and did it. I got the Brazillian... and it hurt LIKE HELL!! I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy (ok, maybe them, but no one else). The worst part about it is that is it over and over and over... my nipples were fine because that was a one time deal. If you have low pain tolerance, don't do it! If you're into pain, go ahead and be my guest, but don't say I didn't warn you.

*Nikki* 02-25-2004 11:56 AM

I am just curious on how long the smoothness lasts. Make sure and let us know when you see some stubble!

diddagirl 02-25-2004 09:31 PM

The pain is really not THAT bad...especially if you keep it really trimmed and dont have an overload of hair down there. For me pure smoothness lasts about 2 weeks. Then hair starts to grow back very slowly in only some places. Its been about 3 and a half weeks and i wont be ready for another wax for about a week or so. Works for me...

pinklily 02-26-2004 02:39 PM

I've been thinking about getting this done for a little while...does anyone know about how much it costs?

Does this mean you wouldn't do it again?

siryn 02-27-2004 03:21 AM

ok, i got my first and only wax about a year ago. i went to a not-so-great place, which probably dropped the quality a lot, but here are my notes: really painful, because of the repetition, you think it hurts, but then they have to go over the same spot again, and oh, ouch, just remembering. it takes a long time, and its fairly awkward, with the woman handling your *cough*. All in all, a pretty unpleasant experience, but oh, the results, so much softer than shaving and lasts soooooo long. I was glad I went, but i never went back.

Annabella 03-17-2004 07:30 AM

This is an interesting thread, good hints and experiences..thanks all of you who have wriiten in here...!

sexymama 03-18-2004 10:20 PM

Just got a full one tonight! I did the underarms and legs while I was at it. Lebell arrives tomorrow and I'm positive I will be rewarded.

Yes, it was painful and I even have some bruising -- but I love the clean feel. I will pay close attention to when I start to regrow hair and keep you all posted. (Today is 3/18.)

tinkerbell 03-22-2004 02:23 PM

I haven't read the thread, but my input: I love having it ALL off!!! :) :)

the feeling is awesome in every way- it's cleaner, softer, and just looks nicer too. :)

diddagirl 03-22-2004 05:38 PM

Its been about 5 weeks and I am due for one now!

mydragonfido 03-28-2004 01:11 AM

Wow the horror do not think I could go through that think I will keep shaving. Power to the tough women!!

fallenangel 03-28-2004 02:11 AM

I've had two done thus far, by two different places. Make damn sure that they test the wax on another sensative area other than that just because sometimes it is a bit too hot and it'll hurt! Secondy, i was told to not put lotion certain types of lotion on that area, the best kind was suggested to be Tea Tree Oil lotion... or just the natural oil. Something healing in it i guess, i dunno but it felt soothing to the skin :D

Also, agreed, don't go without underwear just after, it will hurt! Seondly, i'll extend this to don't wear with lace panties either... just rubs too much and hurts as well... Just some thoughts

lurkette 04-13-2004 06:17 AM

K, nervous now - I'm getting my first Brazilian done today, and don't know what to expect. Some of you said it hurts like hell, others said no big deal....guess I'll find out, won't I? Wish me luck!

SiN 04-13-2004 06:20 AM

lurkette - I've heard taking 1-2 ibuprofrins ~20 mins before is a good preventative.

Good Luck, and report back :)

lurkette 04-13-2004 09:11 AM

K, so that was not so awful. It was fairly uncomfortable, but it only really hurt a couple of times. I think if I followed up with it and kept doing it every month it wouldn't be so bad - the hairs will be finer and fewer. I'm still a little tender, but all things considered it's better than shaving every fricking day and STILL having to deal with stubble.

Redgirl 04-13-2004 09:37 AM

I tried the whole shaving thing for a while but I just couldn't keep up with it. Plus the stubble was bad. I just use my man's beard trimmer thingy and shave it all really short every few weeks. Plus I don't feel like such a little girl because I have some hair there.

I have my eyebrows waxed and I think that hurts. I would never wax the ol' mound of venus. You guys are very brave that do this!

onodrim 04-13-2004 09:48 AM

Glad to hear it went well lurkette! Just out of curiousity - how much did it cost? I'd love to have it done, but I am on a college budget. :p

This time it cost $45. It looks like it could have been as cheap as $35 for a follow-up visit (easier because there's less/finer hair) or as expensive as $60 if I'd had more hair (I don't have a lot, and it wasn't very long) and opted for the "full" treatment - I didn't opt for the "flip over and wax your butt" part. Frankly, I don't have that much hair on my behind, and I was REALLY ready to be done.

It's now, oh, 3 hours post-wax and I'm feeling pretty good. It's still a little tender but not very red. Oddly enough, it's not the "dainty bits" that hurt the worst but the very upper region of the mons, near the top of the hairline. I guess the hair is coarsest and thickest there, and that's where she had to tweeze the most. That part still prickles a bit.

onodrim 04-13-2004 12:04 PM

Cool, thanks for the update :)

SiN 04-13-2004 04:16 PM

lurkette - thanks for the report :)

My Q - pain-wise, is it something you could have done to *yourself*?

(I've long wanted to wax, but with current budget would be limited to DIY at home stuff (with help from the bf for the difficult parts)...)

:)

qtpye4u84 04-14-2004 03:17 AM

I have a lot of questions.
I heard the Brazilian wax was where they waxed every thing like all the hairs in all the areas of the *you know what* even by the butt. lol.
I am not sure to what places do this and I am not sure about how much it will cost, $45 to 60 seems to much has any one got this done for cheaper?
I heard that ppl with herpes should not get this done it will open back up the herpes(I dont have them) just warning any one with them.
I am shy down there, so do they make you spread your legs so they can wax every thing down below the * you know what* if you have any thing?
my friend said she tips the lady a lot because she does not want her saying any thing about her lol.

Hell no! It wasn't all that bad, and most of it I could have done myself, but there were 3 or 4 times where it really fucking hurt and no way I could have done it. Not to mention that the...er...angle of attack wouldn't be quite optimal, and I can't imagine having to take several passes *wince*.

Yup, that's basically what it is.

That seems about right.

That I don't know about - you sure as hell shouldn't get it done if you have open sores - forget the hygiene aspect, it'd hurt like bloody fuckng hell! Dono if it could trigger a latent

Well, yeah, you kind of have to spread your legs so they can get everything. If you're shy, don't get a Brazilian, just get a normal bikini wax. This is not for those who wanna keep their privates private.

Quote:

 Meh - they're professionals, and they see enough coochies that I'm sure it's no big deal. You should tip because they do a good job in a um...delicate area.

BlueBongo 04-15-2004 04:23 PM

I think I will get mine done before I get married :) Looking forward to it.. just don't like having to let it grow out to get that done. But I think it'll be well worth it.

qtpye4u84 04-16-2004 06:49 PM

I asked my boyfriend if I should get one he did not act as if he cared but do you think guys like it when its waxed???

It really depends on the guy.

Maleigh99 04-20-2004 08:14 AM

I think most guys who make the journey down south would appreciate it. Then again, Diddagirl is right and it depends on the guy.

hunnychile 05-16-2004 12:31 PM

Having a smooth, lovely nude tush is worth the cost, but after having spent the money ($70.) last summer for a very good Brazillian...I am just as happy shaving. It was painful. Wish I had been into shaving years ago becuase it's not that bad and feels so good. Each to her own I suppose.

Amethyst 05-17-2004 06:40 PM

I had never thought about having this done but my intrest is peaked. So, I think I am going to call tomorrow and see who in town does it and how much it costs. I have one question are you so sore afterwards that you can't have sex that night or would you be okay?
