Plastic Surgery

Hope this hasn't been done before but I was wondering....

Would you ever have plastic surgery and if so what what would you have done. What lengths would you go to and why?

I have thought about it occasionly in my life but not seriously enough to get it done. The things I have thought about have been breasts and nose.

sillygirl 12-19-2003 03:37 PM

I don't think I could bring myself to do plastic surgery unless it was because of a car accident, etc.

My body may not be perfect, but it is my body, ya know?

isis 12-19-2003 04:38 PM

I've always wanted my nose done. Not so much anymore, but I think if i came across a large sum of money it'd be on my list of things to do. Its always bothered me, personally - especially shopping for glasses. "Your nose .. its just too broad." People know how to say the nicest stuff, eh!?

SiN 12-20-2003 04:39 AM

I'd def. have a breast reduction if i could afford it.

raeanna74 12-20-2003 06:11 AM

Plastic surgery? Hmmm Not too much I'd change. It I HAD to do something I'd probably have then relocate my boob to where they were 5 years ago. They're a bit south of there now. Pregnancy and breastfeeding will do that ya know.

I know it's not technically plastic surgery but I'd prefer putting the resources into getting correction surgery on my eyes so I wouldn't have to wear glasses anymore. I know I can wear contacts but the added cost isn't conducive to my income. Beside I hated the hassle of cleaning the contacts daily. I can't stand the idea of leaving them in my eyes for a week. They made my eyes tired at time.

lurkette 12-20-2003 11:32 AM

I don't think I'd have anything done - not because I'm so satisfied with my body, but because I'd rather live with the imperfections that make me myself than go under a knife and anesthesia. Not worth the risk to me.

amonkie 12-20-2003 07:24 PM

I agree with Lurkette. I all the little things that aren't quite perfect are what people fall in love with. If I HAD to choose something, I might think about getting my ears lined up. Right now one is higher than the other, so sunglasses always look tilted.

Steffi 12-20-2003 08:56 PM

I don't think I could ever have any kind of plastic surgery unless it was absolutely necessary. We were given our bodies for a reason.

diddagirl 12-20-2003 10:18 PM

Plastic surgery? Hmmm... I would say no. There is nothing about myself that I think is terrible enough to want to change it. My breasts are only a B cup, but I like them and think they are very nice. I got pretty lucky with the nose, lips and ears and wouldnt change any of those. However when i get older, I may consider getting a face lift to make me stay looking younger. ahhhh who knows...plastic surgery scares me.

Minx 12-21-2003 02:56 PM

I'm a little torn on this one. Most of me thinks no way, I am completely happy with the way I am now. But in all honesty part of me also would like to get my nose done! The funny things is that I have some scars on my leg from an accident I had but it wouldn't ever cross my mind to get them "fixed".

And raeanna74 I totally hear you on the corrective surgery for your eyesight. I would get it done in a heart beat if I had the money. You should look into the long-wear contacts. I have the ones that last for one month - no more cleaning!!!!! :)

SparklingDot 12-21-2003 09:00 PM

I don't think I would have myself surgically altered. I'm happy with me the way I am. There are better things that I could spend the money on.

gabshu 12-22-2003 07:57 AM

I really want to get my nose done. My mom even said sheŽd pay for it. I hate my nose, I have such a pretty face and my nose ruins it all. I know, I know, IŽm being stupid but I really want a nose job. I just have to work up the guts to do it. For now I have to get my wisdom teeth removed :(

txlovely 12-22-2003 08:56 AM

Most of these posts are contrary to public opinion which says that most people, if given the money, would alter their looks somehow, i.e. love to have some sort of plastic surgery. Generally speaking the risks are minimal compared to the rate of return. ;)

Like anything, people can go overboard and become addicted (we all have seen what this can look like), but generally, it's a great way to instantly increase your self-esteem (providing you go to a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon with whose work you are familiar or via referral from a satisfied friend or physician).

If all your life the hump on your nose has made you wish you could function with a bag on your head during daylight hours, then the removal of that hump can be very liberating! :)

Averett 12-22-2003 06:38 PM

After going through one surgery, I dont think I could do elective surgery.

I also have some lovely scars from that surgery (after a car accident) and sometimes they bother me, but it's part of me now. I wouldn't want to change it.

StormBerlin 12-22-2003 10:57 PM

I would get a boob job in a heartbeat. and maybe when things started to sag, a tummytuck. but i'm not against it at all.

lurkette 12-23-2003 06:40 AM

I would maybe get a boob job if they could liposuck the fat off my thighs and inject it into my boobs so they'd still feel natural (and kill two birds with one stone!). But I'd rather have natural-feeling A cups than funny-feeling C cups.

I heard they were working on this, but some of the injected fat tended to harden. It wasn't so much an aesthetic problem but it could mask breast lumps and delay diagnosis of cancer unless you got every little lump removed. Still too much risk for me.

txlovely 12-23-2003 09:06 AM

The injected fat actually dissolves over time so most wouldn't want to go through the pain without permanent results... Plus, Lurkette, you're beautiful as you are! :)

Amethyst 12-23-2003 12:07 PM

If I could afford it I would definetly have a tummy tuck. I lost about 60 lbs last year and I just can't get rid of this belly. I have been working on it, kind of.

txgirl 12-24-2003 07:21 AM

There are so many views and opinions...I had some done, lipo...and man...was it harsh but yes, worth it...to say I'd do it over again...depends on the circumstances. BUT if anybody is going to do go under the knife be sure to do your homework and get the best doctor around...there are many out there who are wannabes and they after product shows...it's a scary risk...

i think i'm with you on this one. not that care if others have it done but it's not right for me. i know i'm overweight, but if i want to do something about it i'll work it off gradually. and i have my flaws but they're my flaws.

Lexi 01-18-2004 07:27 PM

I just want to fix the bags under my eyes. I feel like they make me look old and tired. (I'm 21 for chrissake!)

I sympathize. I've always had bags under my eyes - face structure, underlying muscle composition, what, I don't know. But it's annoying and I'm very self-conscious about it. That said, I just saw an article about some author who died as a result of complications from plastic surgery. It's purely anecdotal evidence, I know, and there are millions of surgeries that don't go bad, but it still seems like an awful and disproportionate risk (death) for a relatively minor gain in what is, let's face it, a losing battle against the inevitable effects of getting older. I'd rather just learn to live with it.

~springrain 01-19-2004 06:42 AM

if someone really wants to... it's their choice...
some people spend all their hard earned money on sports cars... some one lavish vacations...
it's a personal choice...

we could get into the societal "good & bad" on the effects of plastic surgery, and our need to be "perfect"... but that's an entirely different thread.

in the end... it's your life... you have the right to do whatever makes you happy.

phlox 01-19-2004 08:05 PM

My mom used to always tell me I should get a nose job, but she's one of those 'are you sure you should be eating that?' moms. I finally told her to fuck off, haha. I like my ridge-y nose, especially since if pisses her off.

urbanwizard 01-21-2004 12:35 PM

do you think that societies inclination to accept cosmetic alteration of the body is about conforming to the patriarcal concept of 'woman'?

Yes I do. Thats a good point!

CinnamonGirl 01-23-2004 12:47 AM

I was talking about this with a friend the other day...at first I said "no way!" but then got to thinking...well, a tummy tuck and a breast reduction wouldn't be so bad.

I definitely wouldn't want anything done to my face, though. For one thing, I rather like it (and I look a lot like my mom...maybe it's strange, but I like that genetic connection, y'know?). Plus, if something went wrong (and it seems that I've been hearing a lot of those stories lately), I'd be stuck with a completely messed up face...

Gwenllian 01-24-2004 09:25 PM

I want to get a breast reduction/lift and a tummy tuck.

suviko 01-25-2004 12:29 PM

A poll I posted when I first came to TFP on getting a boob job:
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...&threadid=3997

I have given up on the idea atleast for now. If I lose 25kg and end up with saggy A/B tits, I will repair 'em up. Otherwise plastic surgery doesn't intrest me.

theapprentice 09-27-2004 04:59 PM

Did any of you guys go through with it?

aphroditeskiss1 09-28-2004 03:42 PM

I would have breast implants to get me up to a C cup (I'm a small B right now). I think I may also have lipo to get some fat off of my inner thighs that I can't seem to get rid of. That's it though!

combatmedicjen 09-28-2004 06:30 PM

I just want laser eye surgery. I'm sick of not being able to see without glasses or contacts.

maleficent 09-28-2004 06:33 PM

Botox me-- I can live with the laugh lines and some of the wrinkles, they're experience, I earned, them, I hate the squint craters between my eyes.

Nancy 09-29-2004 03:23 AM

I don't need or want any surgery - I love my body the way it is :)

StickODynomite 09-30-2004 10:32 AM

No one is perfect, myself included. Knowing this, I would never get plastic surgery. It seems that its all about the surface, and I'm not into just concentrating on that on myself or any one else for that matter. I do wish my breasts were a C cup instead of a B, but hey, I'm still sexy!

Kitenn Kaboodle 09-30-2004 12:02 PM

I honestly think I would like to have my breasts lifted and possibly enchanced a little. I'm a D now, but after losing weight I miss the E's, it's weird I know. I would also like to have a tummy tuck and a nosejob, though my husband likes my nose, I feel it is what keeps me from being pretty. I'm afraid I would become one of those plastic surgery junkies though. I always wanted to be beautiful and I don't think I would ever be happy.

la petite moi 09-30-2004 03:28 PM

I've thought about lypo on my legs and butt. But not seriously, or anything.

RomancehasDied 09-30-2004 05:23 PM

I have thought about this a lot ever since I had my daughter. I have large breasts, but they are sagging prematurely due to my pregnancy, so I would totally have them lifted. I have also thought about liposuction, but I am very comfortable in my skin as I am now, so unless it was free, that will never happen.

kittenpie 09-30-2004 06:17 PM

i had to have a hysterectomy at age 33, and i opted for a two-fer...hysterectomy plus breast augmentation (to c cup, i was b before). i never felt comfortable with the fake boobs and they were showing signs of capsular contraction, so had yet another surgery to remove the implants at age 40. now i'm the unofficial president of the itty-bitty-titty committee with my nearly aa bosom and i love them! wish i'd never had the implants in the first place. now, at age 43, i catch myself pulling my face skin back juuuuuuust so to see what i'd look like with an eye lift or mini facelift...but i won't do it. i will resist the urge! i will! i will! damnit...i will!

fallenangel 09-30-2004 07:03 PM

Easily, I'd get lipo for my ass, love handles and legs... and probably have my upper arms done too. *sigh* No, i'm not a happy camper with myself right now. I love my body, but that doesn't mean i would refuse a few upgrades ;)
