triumph
I've been reading this awesome book called "Wise Woman." Included in the book are quotations from several woman over the years. I am inspired to take a look at my life through them and hope you are too.
"Although there may be tragedy in your life, there's always a possibiliity to triumph. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always." (Oprah Winfrey) How have you been triumphant in your life? I left a bad marriage to an alcoholic gambler. It took a lot of courage to take my children from their father and to lower my income (he has a good job.) My family does not divorce -- so it meant going against the family grain as well. The outcome has been a much higher self-esteem and a wonderful new relationship with a man who knows how to treat a woman right! I also believe that I am modeling positive self care and self love for my daughters and they will be healthier as a result! |
great idea, with not enough attention. i didn't wanna read and leave w/o posting, but I have to admit I'm not ready to share, yet. sorry, and yay for getting rid of the bad influence on you and your childrens lives. :)

That's great that you can be such a good role model for your daughter - some people don't think about things like that. Instead of sharing an experience.. I will share a book that you might enjoy that gives an interesting view of woman it is called 'The Awakening' and is written by Kate Chopin.

My father was an alcoholic and my mother was miserable. So everytime she went grocery shopping she took some of the cash and put it into a savings meant for getting away. She finally saved up enough to buy Greyhound tickets from Texas to Oregon for her, me, my younger sis, and older brother. She got away from my father and we all thanked her for it. I think that was pretty triumphic.

Wow wonderelk -- good for your mom! You must really appreciate her sacrafice for you and your siblings.
how else have some of you triumphed? It is important to celebrate our successes. They may be what you consider small, yet they may inspire one of us. Please share! |
congrats to you, sexymama, and to your mother, wonderelk.
My triumph? Easy. I lived in a loveless marriage for 8 years. The last 4 or 5 of the were spent with him sleeping in another room barely even talking to me. I had said to him many times, "Get out." He always thought I was joking. Then, finally, he understood and found another place to live. I had started dating again (what a horror story that is in itself) while we were separated. Now, we are officially divorced. That is not the "triumph".... this is: I've met my soul mate. http://www.smilies.okipages.com/s/contrib/fk/hearts.gif |
JadziaDax -- Lebell has told me about your upcoming union. Congratulations! It does pay off to do the right thing!

Here's my triumph for the day: it's 11:30 am and I'm up. I WILL force myself back onto a normal schedule before classes start, I swear! The alarm was set for 10:30, and i was up by 11:15. This, for me, is QUITE a triumph, it'sthe first time in a LONG time i've been up before noon. ...it's hte little things, yes? ;)

You don't know how much I needed this thread today. I am going to FINALLY file my divorce papers tomorrow. My situation is very similar to Jadiaz, including the soul mate part.
In fact, the ex is still in the house (it's a two family, though, separate apartments, supposed to be good for the kids). We've been separated for two and half years, and I have been waiting for the last year for him to accept that divorce is inevitable, and to file a joint petition with no lawyers, just us two rational adults working out the end of our marriage the same way we worked out the beginning. No go- in fact he is threatening to go for sole custody. That threat has paralyzed me for a month. But last week I went and got my paperwork. Tomorrow is my morning off, and I am starting the week with a giant step toward freedom. So, thank you for this thread just when I needed it, and for your stories of triumph. |
Alright galaxygirl -- nothing like being strong enough to do the right thing for you! And congratulations on finding your true soul mate -- it is a GREAT feeling isn't it. I believe I've found mine too. The three of us should get together and celebrate!
