I've been dealing with depression for a few years now, but until last year i thought i was just a moody bitch. Seriously ladies, if you have any ounce of a thought in the back of your head that you might also have depression, i'm more than happy to talk about it and help you find help. Other fun facts... my favorite color is green, i have a ridiculouse amount of pride for my irish heritage, and my secret dream is to write for national geographic magazine. So if you havent figured it out yet... i'm a big dork! Okay, this intro's getting a bit on the long side, but i can't wait to get to know you all!! smooches!!!

Welcome Emi - Great to hear that your are on top of the depression wave. We all go through it often. What's your "secret"? When will you return to school? I recommend school for as long as possible. What happened last year that shattered you so badly? We truly care at TFP so share and know, you're not alone.

I think I am depressed but have never seeked help. I think my depression is just because of what life dealing me right now. I currently live away from my parents whom are my best friends and my Mom who is very ill and financially we are struggling. On top of things, every time I turn around, something bad is happening.

Thanks for the support, hunnychile. Trust me when i say i definitely want to be in school, i just don't think this is the right time for me... plus im broke. There was nothing specific that made me crash, i think it was just that my depression was becoming exponentially worse and finally reached the point where i couldn't even get out of bed. Thanks to my mom and my boyfriend talking about how worried they were about me and their subsequent encouragement to see a shrink, im medicated now and trying to get things back together. It's still rough, but having supportive people around who love you and watch out for your moods really helps.

There are lots of things that can cause depression, for some people, like me, genetics causes a chemical imbalance in the brain which leads to depression, for others, like you it sounds, depression can be caused by situational problems, hurtful events and losses. No matter what the cause, it's always important to seek help. Sometimes a good friend with a box of kleenex is all you need (i'm more than happy to be that person), but if that's not enough you shouldn't be ashamed to see a therepist. I know i sound like some sort of pamphlette you see in the waiting lounge of your doctors office, but i was ashamed of how i felt and if i didn't end up finding some one to listen to me without judging, i wouldn't be okay. In fact, i probably wouldn't be alive. So try to hang in there, and please talk to someone, because there are things that can help you. Keep your chin up!

It is nice to know there is an ear to listen to me. I have no friends and moved where I am 1 year ago. Things are really complicated and the friends I had....well, they were long distance and basically faded away. I am usually a social butterfly that has turned into a soft shell crab. Seeking help is not on my list to do right now. You almost feel as if they will put me on medication and thats all I need is drugs. Things need to look up in my life. I do not need my little ones to suffer because of my depression.

There are so many ways to treat depression and you Aren't Alone. So many of us have been there!

Bless you & your sweet soul! Life does improve - esp. when you ask enough questions and open up to the imformation and available treatment. Oh BTW - I did have a therapist, too for a short time. That was so great. She was like the mom I never knew.

I'm an oldie newbie exploring tfp. As a child of the '60's (graduated college in 71), I'm feeling a bit old here. Three kids, the youngest now off at college and the older ones off at life. I'm a professor of History. I study the past but want to be in the present.

Grew up in a different world, where we all explored life and each other and sex in more direct ways... concerts, summer of love, protest marches. I feel a need to reconnect with the currents of life and love. What I feel around me today is both very familiar and very different from my former life. Young women today strike me as both more inhibited and more at ease than we were even as we ran naked through the woods and saw sex as an easy game in the days before AIDS.
