Ladies - Pantyhose Poll
Do you wear pantyhose?
How about tights? Do you find them comfortable / uncomfortable / bearable / annoying, etc? Do you wear them every day, or just to special events? How many times/ week? What style do you prefer? Do you have a trick to prevent runs or to wash them - anything to extend their life? Do you have any quality brands to recommend? I started this thread because a male friend recently commented that women no longer wear pantyhose. I was a bit shocked at this comment. I responded that maybe it's a regional thing because I wear them nearly every day (and I'm not from around here). I frequently wore tights growing up (ballet, showchoir, church, etc.) and I honestly feel more comfortable with them on. They keep my legs warm in cool air-conditioned buildings. Even when I'm wearing slacks or jeans, I usually want to wear them. I prefer tights in the wintertime and pantyhose in the summers. Tights tend to have a longer life. I frequently cut out the toes of my tights, something I can't do with pantyhose. |
Do you wear pantyhose? Yes, sometimes...not as much now that I am not working.
How about tights? I love tights in the winter! Do you find them comfortable / uncomfortable / bearable / annoying, etc? For the most part I find them comfortable. Do you wear them every day, or just to special events? Now, just for special events. How many times/ week? prob. 3-4 times a month What style do you prefer? sheer to waist - nude or black Do you have a trick to prevent runs or to wash them - anything to extend their life? no, not really...and I wash mine in the washing machine with the delicates; they seem to hold up just fine (nyuk, nyuk) Do you have any quality brands to recommend? I actually like the cheap-o Legg's Sheer Energy pantyhose - they are shiny and smooth. :) I've recently been told about Wolford's pantyhose, though, and I am very curious. What does a $50 pair of pantyhose feel like? I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever tried them. |
I hate, hate, HATE pantyhose. I find them binding and extremely uncomfortable. I honestly don't think they look good, either. Tights look fine, but they are uncomfortable as well. I don't remember the last time I purchased or wore nylons. Then again, I never wear dresses and I'd never wear them under pants. If I'm wearing slacks, I just wear trouser socks. On the rare occasion I wear a skirt, it's in the summertime and bare legs are fine.

I don't actually OWN a pair of pantyhose, just a few pairs of tights. So I guess we know what my answer is. :)
I wear tights in cold weather. I do not wear them during warm weather - I'd rather have bare legs. The only reason I'd wear pantyhose would be if I had some bruises/scrapes to cover up from my adventures. Maybe it is a regional thing. Or an upbringing thing. My mom never bought me pantyhose when I was growing up. I've never been in a position where I've been expected to wear pantyhose.. even as a professional in DC, the women wearing skirts generally had bare legs. I do, however, wear fishnets or stockings on occasion. Those would be "special" occasions, I think. |

Generally, they make me feel hot and itchy. I'd rather go bare-legged if possible. I have really nice bare legs. Part of this stems from the fact that as a kid, if I wore black tights, my legs looked too thin; in fact, when videotaped, they would end up looking like ribbons. It also might be a rebellion from having to wear tights to dance :) The main contributing factor, though, is that I just don't dress up much. Christmas and Easter is about it these days, it seems. For under my slacks and jeans when it's cold, I have these: http://content.backcountry.com/image...0/GACLRDXD.jpg  |
Stifling itchy strangling bondage. (I know, some ladies loves them, thats cool.)
I do have fond memories of the silk/cotton blend Cuddleduds. The heavier grade thermal underwear can be sexy too. I grew up in the era of the buttoned drop-drawer thermal undies. |

I definitly don't wear them often, I don't even own any actually, but I've worn them before and never minded them. They're soft, and comfy.
|
The only time I wear pantyhose is if I'm wearing a dress/skirt to a) a funeral; b) a job interview; or c) a fancy wedding.
I do like tights, but I don't wear them very often. Fishnets are awesome, and so are thigh high stockings. Why am I not a fan? Well, I don't think they're comfy, for one thing. For another, I'm not very patient. I usually end up with runs in the legs because I either pulled them on or took them off too quickly. Or from walking into something...I'm kind of a klutz. |
I used to wear pantyhose/tights/fishnets everyday in high school. Mostly because I wore skirts and boots everyday. I didn't care if they had runs or holes. Now it's very rare that I wear them. I found them comfortable.

I don't think I've worn a pair in at least 10 years. I hate them. It's a pain in the ass when you have to go pee and you're short on time. I used to be in banking. We were required to wear some type of hosiery. I wore pants with boots. Or if I had heels on, I broke the dress code with no hose. Once the southern Baptist bank director association realized that yes, you can indeed NOT wear hose and look professional, they lightened up on the dress code a bit.

I don't any more. I used to wear pantyhose for one of my jobs where I had to dress up, but that was long ago.

I'm not totally sure I know the difference between pantyhose and tights....or stockings for that matter.
From what I've looked up online, yes, I do wear pantyhose, and tights, frequently. I only wear them in winter because the weather here is very warm in summer and even spring so it doesn't make sense to then. I wear them when I want to wear skirts or a nice dress (to work or a special event), or if it's particularly cold I wear them under my trousers. I do feel that for more formal situations where a dress is required, no pantyhose in winter feels odd to me...I feel inappropriately dressed, like I'm cheating or showing too much skin. I find pantyhose bearable since they do their job, but I don't like how they feel around the crotch area, it can be a bit stifling. I have no tricks, I always recommend buying brands that have a good price-quality ratio. They run so easily, it's not worth going crazy unless it's for a special event. As it is, I wear pantyhose maybe 3 times before they run, and that's when I'm lucky. |
I haven't worn tights in ages. But I do however wear leggings. If that counts as tights then i guess i lied. haha. :p
|
I wear them fairly often for work. I like tights better, especially my extreme colors. Way more fun.
|
Hate, hate, hate pantyhose. I'll wear tights with boots in winter. In fact, I'm kind of glad that fashion came back because the barelegged look is frikken cold! I will wear stockings (either thigh-highs or with a garter belt) with dresses. But I still hate pantyhose with a pink and rosy passion.

Do you wear pantyhose?
Yes How about tights? woolen winter ones only Do you find them comfortable / uncomfortable / bearable / annoying, etc? I wear stockings because tights are generally too short. Do you wear them every day, or just to special events? It depends on the outfit, but if it requires them, then everyday. How many times/ week? See above. What style do you prefer? I prefer hold ups to suspenders, but that is merely personal. Do you have a trick to prevent runs or to wash them - anything to extend their life? If you have a run, a little bit of nail varnish at the top prevents it from laddering any further. Do you have any quality brands to recommend? No, brands here in the UK are pretty poor, and I am pretty poor. |
