Men don't get cellulite...Not fair!
So recently I was on vacation in California and Utah and I wasn't very careful with my exercise and gained a couple pounds (grumble grumble) and a thought occurred to me...men don't get cellulite no matter how much weight they gain.
Life is not fair. Also I'm going back to the gym on a regular basis again and was curious...how many of you ladies have been rid of this cellulite after X many hours or days at the gym? I don't have a lot...but I don't want to let myself go again either. So thoughts on men and the plague of cellulite.:grumpy: |
Cellulite is not necessarily caused by being overweight.
There is really not a 'cure' for it although there are many suggestions for dietary supplements. I keep my weight steady by watching what I eat and going to the gym 3-5 times a week and do the treadmill or crosstrainer for 30 minutes. Doesn't take a lot of time if you put in a lot of effort. |
What I have been told as far as the reason for men not having cellulite is that for men, fat is mixed in with their muscle (to an extent of course), and for women, the fat is basically a layer on top of the muscle.
I have cellulite and I have yet to get rid of it even though I've been trying. I work out at the gym for about an hour 5 days a week. The key to losing cellulite is to lower your total body fat, so eat less or eat healthier and do more cardio. If you ever get rid of all of it, let me know how! :) |
If you've ever seen human fat, it's not smooth, it's rather lumpy, and that's what shows up as 'cellulite'.. Fit men might not have it, but look at an overweight guy and you'll see some.
I've had some all my life and I'm not overweight; even at my skinniest, I had it. You'd have to be pretty solid muscle head to toe, I would think, to not have any at all. My leg muscles are toned, but if I squeeze a portion of my calves, there's the cellulite :( If you're basically in good shape(and judging by your pix, that'd be an understatement), don't fret over a few 'dimples'. |
Cellulite is genetic and there's no real "cure" for it. And it's not necessarily about the amount of fat you have on your body, but about the way your fat cells are distributed, which is genetic. You can be skinny as all getout and still have cellulite. It has to do with the structure of connective tissue under the skin. Men have a more regular structure, which prevents fat cells from being close to the surface of the skin, which is why they don't show cellulite as readily as women.
http://www.wdxcyber.com/ngen13.htm There's not a lot you can do about it, because the structure of your connective tissue is genetic. You can decrease the size of the fat cells to some extent through exercise and diet, but those cells are still going to be near the surface, and dimpling is going to happen. It's totally not fair, but there you have it. It's kind of liberating (as a woman who has had cellulite since my mid-20s when I was at 21% body fat, which is fairly fit for a non-athlete) to know that it's not a personal failing due to too much buttered popcorn, but something I can't really control. It's just there, and I'm used to it. Now if only everyone else in the world knew that and didn't think "God, what a lazy cow!" I can make it better through my diet and behavior, but it's never going to go away entirely. Sucks, but maybe in the next life I'll be one of those people with genes for perfectly smooth skin! |
If you shake it enough, no one sees the dimples.
The end. :D |
yeah, men don't get cellulite, but we can bear children... :)
For the most part cellulite is genetic, excercise and diet do help though in offsetting that fact. the thing is, every woman has it to some extent, That's life , just do your best to stay fit and love your body for what it is. :) sweetpea |
I got curious and started googling cellulite, and found this:

- 85% of women have cellulite (YOU'RE NORMAL!!) - losing weight can lessen the appearance of cellulite to some extent The bad news: - losing weight doesn't always help and might make it worse. - you're kind of stuck with it |

Uhhhmmmm, I dunno, not to endulge too much info, but nwlinkvxd has cellulite and he's a fit guy. I think all humans do.
PS: Ghostgirl, you are one hot momma. Don't worry about gaining a couple pounds. ;) |
When I was as thin as a stick insect (in my teens), I distinctly remember several girls in my year who would ask me "how come you're so skinny? You must be anorexic. I bet you hardly eat at all". One day, one girl, in the gym lockers, turns to me and says "oh you have cellulite", and smiled widely. Yeah she was reaaally nice.
Just to say that you can be extra-thin and still have it. I never worried about it, even now that I'm a little rounder, and I would never have cared at all about it if it hadn't been pointed out to me by others. I don't see what all the fuss is about, but I think I must be the onyl female who actually doesn't give a toss. |
Yes , us women sure got the rough end of the deal. and do you also notice men dont get the flabby arms.. u no when u wave and its also waving..
