could i be pregnant, or just going through normal body aches....?

Hi ladies - this is my first post here on the site. I've been reading around for a couple days and really like the community here from what i've seen. i plan to become active, but honestly, i joined today to ask you all a question...

so here is the deal.. I'm 21 years old and have a very regular period and no hormone issues. I am healthy and I suppose you can say "normal" when it comes to my sexual health, body, and hormones. I know my body very well.

Its been two weeks since the ending of my last period. About 4 days ago, on Thursday, I noticed my breasts hurt like crazy. I have had tender titties before, but never like this. But starting Thursday my boobs have been in pain. Its the whole thing, not just around the nipple, and it hurts the most on the outer sides, i think where the milk lobules are. They hurt no matter what.. walking, touching, sleeping, and sex is very painful they are so sore.

I use birth control pills and never miss a pill (well i havent within the last month). We don't use condoms though. After he goes inside me, I go to the bathroom to squeeze whatever cum I can out. I usually am able to get a good amount out of there, but I know it is not all of it.

Well last night I went to sleep, and was woken up in the night with some discomfort in my pelvic area... kinda like cramps, or the sensation of ovulation. Now all morning I still have this pain in my ovary/uterus/area of female reproduction. It is kinda strange, because when I get my period, i dont usually have PMS or even any pain before it comes.

So, now I am becoming kind of worried. I have not noticed any lumps or anything unusual, so i dont think it is anything like that. I am due for my annual exam soon, so I am planning on making my appointment for as soon as possible.

Do you have any opinions, what could this mean? Does it sound like pregnancy? It seems kinda crazy, the pill only has a .1% or something very low like that. What do you think I should do....? I was thinking of taking a home pregnancy test, but I am not sure of the correct time to use it.

Any advice would be appreciate! Thanksss =)

If it's been two weeks since the end of your last period you should be due to start your period soon. A pregnancy test can be sensitive enough to detect pregnancy around 9 or 10 days post ovulation. Look for the level of HCG they can detect - the most sensitive ones are around 20 mIU, with most of them being around 25 mIU. There are some in drug stores that claim to be able to test before you have missed your period - look for those. If the test is negative and you get your period on time...no worries! If the test is negative and you miss your period, test again or see a doctor.

I started having issues like that once too-- weird aches, my boobs were killing me, I was tired all the time and kept waking up sick to my stomach. Needless to say, the stress of maybe being pregnant didn't alleviate the sickness. I worried, I fretted, and kept getting worse. Turned out I was just having crappy PMS symptoms increased by some other stressors in my life, and the nausea was from severe dehydration. Two weeks seems pretty quick to start showing any symptoms of being pregnant, so just hang in there-- follow Lurkette's advice and get an early pregnancy test, and remember to take care of yourself to reduce any stress. Good luck, chickie.

NOt to scare you but when I became pregnant I had those symptoms BUT those can be other things too. Just take a cheap home test. If it comes out neg and you still feel bad wait a couple days and take it again or go to the doc.

hey girls thanks alot for the responses.

im gonna call my gyno tomorrow and have a little chat and schedule my annual exam... maybe take a home test as well.

my significant other and i are freaking out at the thought of pregnancy. its very scary to think of since i am not ready for a child. i know a couple girls who got pregnant and didnt realize it until it was too late to do anything other than give birth, so I am doing all i can to identify what is happening early on.

.... well if i was to be pregnant, i couldn't go through with it. does anyone know any good sources on abortion? i think ill be doing some research tonight.

thanks again !

Your local Planned Parenthood and/or Family Planning Centre should be able to give you all the help you need regarding info on abortion.

well just to keep you posted, this morning it was light red when i whipped after peeing. This has happened to me before when I had a UTI, but now i am really worried. I am not due for my period for another week and I am having some light bleeding already.

abaya 06-11-2007 07:30 AM

Can you see your doc for a UTI check?

Additionally, if the thought of getting pregnant really freaks you out that much, I recommend using condoms on top of hormonal BC. You're probably not pregnant, but in the future, it's extremely helpful for peace of mind to have 2 methods of contraception. My husband and I used condoms + BC regularly for the first 2.5 years we were together, and only since marriage have we switched to the occasional condom + pulling out (still with BC). I can't remember that last time I truly freaked out about pregnancy.

Trust me, if you are the type who tends to freak out... doubling up is worth it.

Agreed. Plus, condoms are easier cleanup, at least to me :)

So very true!! Once we go back to the usual, no condom, coming-inside sex (when we start considering children, lol), I'll have to get used to that whole clean-up thing again. :( Not such a fan of the drip-dry mode  (sorry!)

sillygirl 06-11-2007 11:53 AM

I'm with Nikki. It could be pregnancy, it might not. The only way to know is to take a test. If you stress yourself out too much over it, it might mess with your period anyway.

purelife 06-11-2007 07:13 PM

yeah, I am going to to see my doctor this week to figure out what is going on.

as for the condoms... ive been with my partner for 5 years now doing it this way for most of it. i dont think going back to condoms now would be doable, LOL. it just changes how it feels too much, especially after all this time without them. ... but i think we will re-evaluate some other methods....

well, my breasts are feeling better today. and i did some research on the whole abortion thing just in case i am prego. I'm feeling much better now, well more at ease.

it will all be okay. Thank again for all the advise and insight here.. it helps just having someplace to vent at, haha.

Not to take this thread off-course, but I've also been a little worried about pregnancy myself.

The last four days I've felt extremely nauseous and slightly dizzy. However, I'm not sure if that could just be "sun poisoning" since nwlinkvxd and I went waterskiing on Saturday and Sunday. I just don't know. I haven't had a real period since the 25 March (I spotted for one day on the 10 April), but didn't have sex until about five days ago. We don't use any birth control method.

Could these be early symptoms of pregnancy?

abaya 06-14-2007 05:37 AM

LPM, if you are worried about pregnancy, why aren't you using birth control? Just wondering...

la petite moi 06-14-2007 12:36 PM

We are trying to get pregnant. I guess "worried" isn't a good word for it.

pornclerk 06-14-2007 08:51 PM

First of all, there's really not much point to "squeezing" it all out afterwards. That is not a very good back up plan- condoms are.

Secondly, the female body can do all kinds of weird things. My period came 6 days late once and I am on the pill. It turned out to be nothing.

If you miss your next period, then it is time to think about a pregnancy test. It's only been two weeks. Don't create concerns when it is too early to tell!

I've been having "morning sickness" for about 6 months. I've had blood tests that have determined I am 100% healthy in every possible way except for a slightly low iron level. It's really weird. I'm definitely NOT pregnant, though.

lurkette 06-27-2007 04:53 PM

Hey Purelife, what's the news? You pregnant or what?

Nausea and vomiting in the morning can also be caused by acid reflux disease, which often goes underdiagnosed. Try taking a course of Prilosec OTC or take some Tums when you get up first thing in the morning.

 I can't believe nobody else in my life thought of this (including me, AND my doctor)! That makes perfect sense!!! Thank you so, so much. If the Prilosec actually works, you will have solved my half-year problem with a few words!!
