Provera?
So, I went to the gynecologist today and she put me on Provera (estrogen) to get my period back. Has anyone taken this before, and what side-effects did you notice?
|
I had to take it once a few years back. It caused nothing for the first day or so then nasty cramps, a headache and ravenous food cravings.

Ive been on depo provera for 2 years now and I think Ive had every side effect there is. Ive started to have a lot of back problems, Im losing my hair, Ive gained 60+ lbs, havent had a period since the day I started it, and Im losing tons of bone density (Im also on Lupron shots for my endometriosis). I would recommend not trying it, she should be able to put you on something else.

fury, I am not on depo provera. I am on provera.
However, I have been on depo before, and god, I'm so glad I got off it- after two years of that shit....yikes. |
LPM, Provera is a pill form of Depo-Provera--they're both medroxyprogesterone, a synthetic progestin. So if you had difficulty with Depo-Provera, I would advise being cautious, especially if you had bad side effects.

I had a lot of physical and emotional problems due to depo. Also gained about 100lbs. That sucked. But amazing, getting off of it and getting back to myself has helped. The only nice thing was not having my period.. but I was on it for two years and it took just about a year to get out of my system once I stopped taking the shots. I wouldn't advise anyone to start taking it, no matter how awesome it may sound. As far as provera, I've heard a lot of good things about it. I personally just got tired of meds to regulate my body.... side effects suck. |
