KWSN 04-19-2003 05:58 AM

Being a n00b again

It's just so strange that just a week ago, I was #16 all-time on the posters list, with an avatar, and a title, and everything all iced-out, and now, there's nothing. Still, I am ready to make every post count on the way to getting back to where I once was. It'll be a long process, but I can't wait for the whole TFP community to get re-upped and make TFP v4 even better than the rest.

It looks BEAUTIFUL, by the way, Hal.

BoCo 04-19-2003 06:16 AM

I feel your pain, KWSN. I was well on the way to 5,000 posts, and now I'm at a miserable 3. :(

yangwar 04-19-2003 06:31 AM

It's like the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse. Just a handful of us, emerging from our shelters full of cans of spaghetti-o's, ready to repopulate this bleak, fresh world we have been given.

genka 04-19-2003 06:54 AM

And I don't even like spaghetti-o's....

bundy 04-19-2003 06:56 AM

i know the pain.

i was close to 3000 posts.

i love the apocalypse image yangwar.

Fly 04-19-2003 07:19 AM

just shy of 1200 myself.

it'll be fun to start over though.like a new life so to speak

bluearmy 04-19-2003 07:21 AM

I had only just started when the board went tits up, at least it gives the newbies like myself the chance to keep pace with the old pro's. Im not helping am I? I'll get me coat.

yournamehere 04-19-2003 07:39 AM

Well, I guess it's only fitting that one of the newest threads involves post count - won't be the last, either.

OK, OK - this is my 3rd.

And I had 600.

rockogre 04-19-2003 09:32 AM

I would have been here a year next month. I had over 1200 posts but it was that year thing that I was kind of proud of, and having an avatar.

Oh well, not the first thing that I have had to start over. On with the show.

MyFakeAccount 04-19-2003 11:01 AM

wow I was proud of my 60 posts but you guys make me look pathetic

SecretMethod70 04-19-2003 11:50 AM

3000+ posts, a year in the making.....now it's 11 and less than an hour. Everyone's got to start over every now and then. :p

vermin 04-19-2003 12:03 PM

I think I had over 700, didn't pay that much attention.

merkerguitars 04-19-2003 12:36 PM

Hey at least the database of lurkers cleared out.....and now we all are pretty much startting around the same time...

sngx1275 04-19-2003 12:45 PM

I lost all of probably 50 posts :).
This site is great, also going to be cool to watch you heavy posters climb up in post count.

FuddMan 04-19-2003 01:32 PM

Yangwar, the post-apocalyptic comparison was perfect

Drider_it 04-19-2003 01:49 PM

ahhhhhh I never got past being a nOOb... oh well.. just glad we are back from the void.

dachinster 04-19-2003 02:01 PM

well i guess im pretty much with u people.
i have 2 start all over again also.

funny.... i kinah like the squeaky clean feeling im getting.

just like the one u get when u deliberately format ur PC :)

uffjohn 04-19-2003 03:32 PM

nooooo I was 9 from 100 :( oh well ;)

Joe Fnord 04-19-2003 03:43 PM

I was somewhere in the 100 range, so I wasn't exactly a powerposter, but it's still odd seeing these single and double post counts here, and all the naked headers (no titles, no avatars, etc).

So who's going to be first to avatar status (not including Hal, of course)?

kipperoo3 04-19-2003 04:10 PM

I can see this as a good opportunity to make my presence more known than it was before. I believe that we all have something intellegent to say and we can all learn a great deal from each other - especially if we all start on the same page!

Chunkylover52 04-19-2003 04:27 PM

I can feel your pain KWSN, i only had 150 posts but it still sux.

zfleebin 04-19-2003 04:32 PM

I dont remember my post count but its always sad to be a newB. Definitely dig this site and am very thankful that everything got fixed. Mad respect to the administrator for working his ass off and getting this back so quickly. it is definitely appreciated

mike2360 04-19-2003 05:01 PM

 I miss smiley the dncing head already. But hey, Only a few more posts to a thousand.

redrum 04-19-2003 07:29 PM

I think I had only made it to 73 posts, but none of them were spam. I just don't seem to have a comment on everything everyone says. I think its because Im not good with words.

CrotchrocketSlm 04-19-2003 09:30 PM

Hey, at least I now have a shot at being respectible from the beginning of a Board incarnation :)

Lebell 04-19-2003 11:40 PM

Being a noobie, like having an Avatar is all in your head, grasshoppa...

mr.neat 04-20-2003 12:49 AM

haha! and who said there is no such thing as do overs....

brknkybrd 04-20-2003 02:51 AM

I was a donor before the apocolypse... How do I donate money now?

I can't seem to find a link to donate -- I'd be happy to throw in a little something for the cause.

brknkybrd 04-20-2003 02:55 AM

Never mind, I just saw the post in General discussion...

Apologies for the slight hijack.

Ciall 04-20-2003 06:30 AM

I never stopped being a noob. I did have 80+ posts. At least now everyone's down to my pathetic level HAHAHA !

thingstodo 04-20-2003 08:04 AM

it's all a journey....

Gebbinn 04-20-2003 08:18 AM

I was a member for probably 3 months, only had a couple hundred posts, so I didnt lose a whole lot, but I dont mind

cdwonderful 04-20-2003 10:16 AM

I have lost it all!! Lamentations and remorse!
oh well what the heck

I was never that high on the posting scale, but I get what you mean. Its fun to take the opportunity to reinvent yourself, so to speak.

Welcome back everyone!

Veritas en Lux!

Jadey 04-20-2003 02:35 PM

I'm not even sure how many posts I had previously. I think I went over 1200 a couple of months ago. Oh well. And I never had an avatar, so I guess I'm not missing much.

Time to start anew!

wraithhibn 04-20-2003 02:59 PM

Lets kill all the n00bs! wait, im a n00b again....erase that last thought. :D

ismark 04-20-2003 03:52 PM

I am amazed, a new board and already a huge number of posts and members, glad to be back

bubbaspike 04-20-2003 04:28 PM

I'm just glad its backup.
You just don't know what you got till its gone.

BobDFish 04-20-2003 05:00 PM

It feels somehow strange to reminisce about the good old days . . . of last week. Somehow the nostalgia value just doesn't work quite the same. .

ols 04-20-2003 05:00 PM

ya, its great that its backed up. i was nearly to 200. oh well, it will be fun doing even more posting

heyal256 04-20-2003 07:04 PM

I think that I also had something close to 200 posts. And to think I was wondering what I was going to use as an avatar, guess I don't have to worry about that for a while.

KillerYoda 04-20-2003 08:01 PM

I don't like this n00b feeling again. It's like being dropped back to freshman year in high school when you're halfway through college.

vevaphon 04-20-2003 09:34 PM

nuked.

suckage.

at least TFP still looks good.

at least this way, you know what to do right this time around. consider it skate time.

septal 04-20-2003 10:36 PM

the old post counts are lost forever, right?
there's no way to verify how many someone had, right?

Then i had a billion posts. Now i have, like, 5.

Such is life!

opentocomments 04-20-2003 10:37 PM

well i never go very high in the post game because i only talk when i think i should i dont just go around looking to post in every thread...But that could just be me.

Scipio 04-20-2003 10:52 PM

Post counts don't change who you are, and caring about them doesn't make you any better. I suppose it's just a neat perk for participation.

Great Scott 04-21-2003 02:35 AM

I was finally closing in on that ever elusive avatar. Wouldn't have been half as difficult except I don't have anything intersting to say!

MikeyChalupa 04-21-2003 05:12 AM

On the cusp of 1000...

Guess Osama will have to go back into hiding for a while...

-Mikey

redravin40 04-21-2003 05:22 AM

It's not so important to be brilliant

Interesting is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you post something that has some thought behind it you will find that people are interested in what you have to say.
In some ways I like being a noob again. The avatar was never the most important part to me. Having a fresh start for everyone can be a good thing some times.

blindawg 04-21-2003 06:08 AM

ahhhhh. so much work so little time.. Irregardlesss. my 300 plus post weren't much of anything compared to what some of you had.. I'm just glad t have the board back.

bobmsmythe 04-21-2003 06:53 AM

I was just getting to the point where people noticed me.

Sigh.

Bob

boatguy234 04-21-2003 07:05 AM

fienna 04-21-2003 07:34 AM

i'm just glad to see that the TFP is back up and alive again. I was more proud of my six months then of anything else, having just over 100 or so posts... anyways, i'm glad to be back!

Giant Hamburger 04-21-2003 08:27 AM

Huzzah!
I have returned from the grave.
It seemed only appropriate that my first post back should be here.

Cyd 04-21-2003 08:27 AM

good to have it back tho. Welcome back TFP

ASNstunta 04-21-2003 09:50 AM

Glad to have TFP back up and there are so many posts already.

Daval 04-21-2003 10:40 AM

I was also in the top 25. I look forward to the road back :)

Karby 04-21-2003 11:59 AM

...well i wasn't that far from a noob anyways, so it doesn't really bother me:)

Pheatius 04-21-2003 02:12 PM

Time to make the doughnuts...

liquid_dreams 04-21-2003 02:33 PM

man now i feel really bad i was just shy 100 but hereing about how u guys lost your 3000 posts i feel like a idoit

Met22 04-21-2003 03:37 PM

Starting all over again for the fourth time.
Empty feeling as 3000 goes by the wasteside but TFP has gotten better ever time around. So having seen versions 1,2,3 and now 4 I look forward to building a better home with my bros and sisters. TFP 4 ever.

Never a doubt that Hal is the man.....

Acoustica 04-21-2003 11:45 PM

Sorry, but I'm still getting the gist of what this community is all about. I probably only had a handful of posts before the place had it's trouble. However, I was a little sad when I tried to venture here and everything was lost. However, that helped me to discover the IRC channel, and I found a whole new place. Maybe in time I'll find my niche.

platypus 04-22-2003 04:24 AM

Guess I'll chime in too. *grumble* *grumble* I miss my avatar already. Oh well, nothing like starting with a clean slate.

marcopolo 04-22-2003 05:43 AM

The worst part of this ' starting over ' process is what was lost in many hours of contributions over the past year.

Orionath 04-22-2003 06:32 AM

I was just starting to explore TFP when it borked -- I like that everyone here is so polite and can write in complete sentences. For the most part.
I'm amazed at how prolific some of you guys are. Don't you have jobs to go to?
I doubt that I'll ever be in the top 100 posters, but I enjoy reading the forums and hope to contribute in some small, perhaps irrelevant manner.

Insomniac(uk) 04-22-2003 10:02 AM

A hard drive failure, the system equiliser and all all that.

Oh well back from something around the 30 post mark to one, at least there are plenty in the same boat.

GreenCloud 04-22-2003 08:31 PM

i don't mind losing post counts nearly as much as i do the loss of everyone's awesome posts. there's was always something cool at tfp, no matter how many times i went back, and its sad to think that all those contributions are gone now

gavsarris 04-23-2003 12:34 AM

...

back to square one...oh well

mihal 04-23-2003 04:51 AM

I almost thought that my account was shut down just because I was away from the computer for 2 weeks...

Guess that's not the case.

fizzledorf 04-23-2003 05:00 AM

man, i was a n00b on v.3 and now, still a n00b on v.4 -- reminds me of Monty Python's Holy Graill, when John Cleese is running up the hill to the castle, and every time he's almost there, he gets reset to the bottom of the hill. I now feel his pain... ;)

Wax_off 04-23-2003 07:16 AM

Does everyone derive their validity as a person from their post count? Don't make no sense. If you have something worthwhile to say it shouldn't matter if you're a total rookie.
My $.02

siddhartha 04-23-2003 04:12 PM

Out with the old and in with the new. Most of the time, it's a good thing.

Glad to see everyone is still here.

As if...

Wingnut 04-24-2003 04:52 AM

I am glad we can now all start on equal footing!!

Lucifer 04-24-2003 11:06 AM

I had just nailed 666, uploaded my cool new avatar, gotten a cool title, posted a link in my signature, and my world collapsed. On the other hand it feels cool to be close to BoCo and Phred!

queedo 04-24-2003 06:53 PM

I was close to 1200 but now if you notice they took the numbers off and its only the level we are at now. :(

the edge 04-25-2003 04:47 AM

Let me introduce myself again "the edge"

Long time reader, first time writer

ironman 04-25-2003 12:55 PM

man, and i was sad about my 178!

flesheater 04-26-2003 05:47 AM

Maybe someday I'll be up there with all the TFP legends - now is my chance

Holo 04-26-2003 03:03 PM

No real biggie. I had about 120 posts...won't take long to recoup the loss. Just glad it's back!

Esco 04-27-2003 11:41 AM

I miss my avatar ... and I miss my post count. :/

I feel inadequate ... again.

;)

cornerpiece 04-27-2003 05:16 PM

Hey, Its a new life -- Let's enjoy and go on!

Captain Canada 04-28-2003 11:18 AM

I was a member for less then 6 months before the upgrade, so its not like I had much to lose. Only about about 180 posts.

mjby2 04-28-2003 09:17 PM

I'm glad someone started thid thread. For a moment, I thought it was only my problem.

bearpaw 05-06-2003 12:48 PM

i'm just glad tfp is up and running. almost like missing an old friend.

Mud Puppy 05-15-2003 10:16 AM

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one.
I hadn't been here for a while and when I dropped by, I was no longer a member and didn't know why. I thought I had done something wrong.
I think I had somewhere aroud 360 posts but, I am using this fresh start to give myself a new name. I used to be Captain Kangaroo but I decided to go with Mud Puppy this time around.
Welcome back to all us "old" "n00bs"

VirFighter 05-16-2003 10:00 AM

So that's what happened. Sounds like I'm in the same shoes as someothers. I registered back in Decemeber but school got to me and I wasn't able to visit as often come early April. Then I try to log back on today and I'm not a member....

Weird. Oh well, glad its back up. :)
