The New and Improved Introduction Thread!!!!!

Hi there, new person! Welcome to TFP! We're glad that you're here!

TFP prides itself on being a place for intelligent and mature discussion. We're not an echo chamber (or we try not to be anyway), so don't expect everyone to agree with your opinions.

Now, it may look like this is a closed group, but it's not. The only thing holding you back from being a part of the group is hesitating over that "post" key. Go ahead and press it. No one is going to judge you. We may not agree with everything that you have to say, but honestly, we don't want to agree. It's much more interesting to hear different opinions and takes on things.

So, please introduce yourself to us and start posting elsewhere. If you need help with something, just ask! We'd like to try to help!

Cat_Eyes 11-01-2010 05:48 PM

Hi,

The first post is the hardest... :surprised:

So,... where to start. What do people put in these?

Okay, I'm new here. ~ Big surprise, right?

I'm not good with words but I talk a lot.
Hoping to find a place to discuss whatever comes to mind and if I'm lucky~ learn something. :D

Oh, I like smileys... annoyingly so!

Baraka_Guru 11-01-2010 05:51 PM

Hello, Cat Eyes! And welcome.

I look forward to seeing you add to discussions that interest you.

Xerxys 11-01-2010 05:54 PM

Hi Cat Eyes! Welcome to TFP. Feel free to jump in.

Jazz, the heading needs more exclamation marks.

Cat_Eyes 11-01-2010 06:14 PM

I don't know if I'm expected to reply or just wander off, yet you both were so nice to welcome me~ Hi & Thanks! :D

I was wandering around looking for an Avatar to fit and putting words in my little "about me" place... I hope I can find it again. ;)

Now, to take a bigger leap and step into the playground. :shy:

amonkie 11-01-2010 06:17 PM

You are welcome to do whatever the hell you like here, for the most part.

And there's our lovely chatroom at the top of the page with a link that is a more real time place to get to know members. sometimes its hoppin and sometimes its not, but still check it out!

Cat_Eyes 11-01-2010 08:36 PM

Thanks. :D
I'll give Chat another try later- I'm getting an error right now. I know I'm doing something wrong but too tired to work at it.

Hello New Member! [Cat_Eyes]

Welcome to the World of Hackneyed Recyclinations. [Discussion Premises]

May you enjoy a __ time. [Good]

The_Jazz 11-02-2010 04:34 AM

Hi, Cats Eyes. Not all of us revel in being strange and weird. Ok, that's a lie. The truth is that not all of us revel in being strange and weird all the time. Usually we're just people. Glad you found us.

Xman, the fact that I put 5 exclamation points into the title at all made the stick up my ass twinge. There's no way you're getting more.

Welcome to TFP, Cat_Eyes.
I like your avatar.

I predict another new member will introduce themselves soon.

There is no scary microphone to handle, nor a spotlight shining on your knees knocking.

You can do it!

Wes Mantooth 11-02-2010 03:13 PM

Naw we need MORE exclamations!!1!!!1!!!!11!!! <--- See how its done!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome aboard Cats Eyes, hope you have as much of a blast out there on the boards as I do.

Wilhelm 11-02-2010 03:45 PM

Ok, decided to try...
Since this is my first post, how about knowing a little about me?

I'm 33 years old and live (today) in brazil. I study philosophy and like to talk, although its becoming hard to find people that endure a talk that lasts more than five minutes about any subject.

Besides all that, I'm reaching for new people and participating in this forum seems like a nice beginning...

Considering the fact that I don't know anyone around, I'll try to see if I can find people to talk around.

Cheers,
Wilhelm

Cynthetiq 11-02-2010 03:52 PM

Wilhelm, nice to see you using Tapatalk!!! I installed it just for people like you!

Well, okay, more so that people who frequent this space can frequent it from other spaces than just their offices and desks.

Welcome! It's nice to see you and Cat.

Craven Morehead 11-02-2010 04:28 PM

Wilhelm and Cat Eyes, welcome aboard.

Wilhelm, I'm quite looking forward to the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend. Nice to have one on our side of the globe so I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn or force myself to stay awake until 3 am.

SmilinAtU 11-04-2010 11:01 AM

First time ......

.... posting here. I'm a simple guy. I am hoping to find ways to increase my wife's satisfaction with our sexual encounters.

Sorry to be so lame. I'll be more open when I have been around a little bit.

Meditrina 11-04-2010 11:55 AM

Welcome, smilinatu. It was nice meeting you in chat this afternoon. I hope you stick around. TFP is great place to be. You can definitely learn a lot about all different things here. :)

The_Jazz 11-04-2010 12:13 PM

Hi there, SmilinAtU. We'll help however we can!

Nepenthes 11-04-2010 07:12 PM

I just found this site and it looks like a cool place. I am more used to forums related to a specific theme lately, e.g. electric motorcycles, but this could work.

My general world view is that life is short, so make life as interesting as you can.

I like discussing philosophy and politics in forums better than in person.

I am a big fan of the books written by Dale Carnegie.

Here are two quotes from one of his books:

"First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst."
-Dale Carnegie

"Remember, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday."
-Dale Carnegie

FuriousAvatar 11-04-2010 11:13 PM

Welcome, Nepenthes. Your world view reminds me of a local coffee shop's slogan: "Life's short, stay awake."

I, too, find it easier to discuss certain topics online as opposed to in person. I suppose there isn't as much pressure to respond right away.

Hope you enjoy the 'site =)

Cheshire 11-05-2010 07:56 PM

Hiya.

Cat_Eyes 11-05-2010 08:00 PM

I think I'll introduce myself again in the fancy new thread because Plan9 keeps complaining that I don't post, and this is an awesome way to avoid producing any real content.

You didn't mention your MacGyver Mullet (TM) or your weakness for the Caps Lock key.

ring 11-06-2010 05:02 PM

Hello there Chesire. May I pour you some tea? I like your grin.

My old eyes can't discern what type of cycle, our new member, Nepenthes is riding.
Me myself likes the quieter old BMW & Moto Guzzi bikes.

Crack Monk.....This fancy thread welcomes your footprints upon us.

zenda 11-08-2010 03:45 AM

Hi, pleased to meet you.

I'm pretty passionate about matters of communication and its improvement. The goals of this place as stated, are close to my own.

If that 'Evolve or we Die' thread is typical of how this group addresses problems and puzzles, then this is one which walks its talk, and I am in the right place.

I'll develop a posting habit soon enough, but for now, as a new guy, I'll be mostly listening and learning as I continue to familiarise myself.

Best wishes
Z

The_Jazz 11-08-2010 05:41 AM

Hi zenda. That is one of the most promising introductory posts I've read in years. I'm hoping you develop those posting habits soon.

Not that you should be discouraged Nepenthes. I found your electric motorcycle thread an interesting read.

Crack Monk, you know Plan9. Who's probably warned you about me (I know I would if the situation were reversed). Enough said.

Hey. HEY. I don't have a mullet. I just made a horrendous mistake involving blonde hair dye and a bottle of jager.

(Just kidding. Jager is disgusting.)

Plan9 warned me of nothing. NOTHING. In fact, he didn't even warn me that I'd come across every funny thing he's ever said to me on this site. I now feel like I'm getting sloppy joke seconds.

Poor, poor CM. You're laboring under the mistaken impression that anything Plan9 says is 1) original and 2) funny. Throw enough balls, and some of them are bound to hit the broad side of the barn.

DRP976 11-16-2010 07:13 PM

First and foremost, hello to all TFP members. :)

My name is Jeremiah and i live in Northern California, im 23 years old and some of my interests/hobbies are reading, poetry, hip hop music, lucid dreaming, cars specifically Hondas, horror movies, exercising, etc. just to name a few. Hope to make some new friends here.

amonkie 11-16-2010 10:05 PM

Welcome Jeremiah! You've only been here a short time but already you've made a splash! It's always fun when folks feel comfortable to just jump right in.

I think you'll find this to be a place to make the best kinds of friends - the wacky, original, would't have them any other way kinds.

Cynthetiq 11-16-2010 10:10 PM

Welcome! Seems like you know that there's nothing to worry about and to just jump right into the conversations.

I was browsing and the topics/discussions/members seem cool so i decided to join. Im open to anyone as long as they are nice be it they are goofy, serious, etc.

Cynthetiq: Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks Plan9? Lol thats the first time somebody said my name sounds/is Amish. Jeremiah and Isaiah are biblical names and most people comment how they like how its straight outta the bible. None the less its good to be here.

Hello all, I'm new to this site and am hoping to meet new people :)

bagatelle 12-01-2010 08:06 AM

I joined here over a year ago, posted a while. Don't really "know" you, but I like reading well done posts in English to keep up with language skills and I'm hoping to be able to contribute. :)

Can anyone tell me, is this quote of 'long walks on the beach' taken from some book or movie, as I saw someone use it in another forum?

Hi there, Akilla and bagatelle. Welcome to the machine!

"Long walks on the beach" was a lyric in the old Pina Colada Song (and probably others), but it's been commonly used for ages in personal ads looking for mates and "things I love" in Playboy playmates profiles.

bagatelle 12-03-2010 04:04 AM

Thanks for the welcome and the explanation. :) Could someone tell me, what's the idea in Suggested Thread Topics subforum?

Cynthetiq (One of Our Adminstrators) recently created this subforum so some of our resident members could possibly take the auto-generated news and subscribed articles that appear there, (they are being imported from RSS feeds, I believe, and posted as is) and create new thread topics for discussions as they see fit. You can pluck an interesting article you find from there, expand upon it, ask a few questions, and post it in Genereal Discussion to see if anyone bites.

It's an easy general news aggregator here at the TFP, is the basic way to describe it.

slumberinglotus 12-05-2010 08:37 AM

Hello

Hi. I'm new. I was google searching something and found this site. I was thinking maybe people could give me input too. I'm a bit :oogle:at the moment, doesn't help that I'm a bit under the weather at all so I am going to say hello here, rest a bit and try to figure out what to say next. I guess breaking the ice can be a hard and scary thing sometimes especially when you are questioning  but I am just me.

Jetée 12-05-2010 12:47 PM

Hello slumberinglotus.

I can relate. It took me a week at firrst to build enough courage to post even three times, and as a new member in a new setting, I always find myself a bit nervous due to my relative inexperience and inability to think of anything to say.

Here's hoping you come back and chip away some of that ice, until you have sufficiently warmed up to us. Enjoy looking around in the meantime.

slumberinglotus 12-05-2010 01:55 PM

Thank you Jetee for the welcome. I just... I guess I feel a bit like a lost soul and now... now I am just trying to find someone to point me in a good direction. The last cat I asked pointed all sorts of ways. Just to hear thoughts would be nice.

redwolf, ive had a look at your profile and it doesnt seem that you've loaded your avatar.

i think you're mixing up your profile pic with your avatar.

to set up your avatar, go to User CP which should be in the top left hand corner of your page. Then on the LHS there should be a lift of edit options. Go to Settings and Options. In there you'll see Edit avatar. You can load your avatar there.

If you still cant do it, send me a PM and we'll get it sorted for you.

thedoc 12-15-2010 09:33 AM

Hello,

Greatings, Salutations, and all the implied honorifics, Just signed up, but will browse awhile to get the feel of the place. One of my pet peeves is someone who joins a site and starts posting questions and answers without looking to see if it's been posted before, so I woun't do that. A bit about me I like Philosophy, Religion, Good music (the really really old oldies) Model railroading, high preformance cars, building things (a lot of different things). I take care of 3 of my grandchildren (ages 1, 5, 9,) 4 days a week, so time for other things is sometimes limited. I live on just over 2 acres in the woods, I don't have a lawn, or a lawn mower, I prefer it natural. I've been on a few other forums so I'm not new to discussion, just this site.

The_Jazz 12-15-2010 10:00 AM

Welcome, thedoc. I wonder if you're someone I pointed in this direction the other day. Regardless, I think you'll definitely find a few things here to catch your eye.

As for your pet peeve, I had a very similar one a few years ago. These days, though, if the thread hasn't been active in the last 30 days, I don't let it bother me - the sole exception being things that are in our Hall of Fame.

thedoc 12-15-2010 10:26 AM

Thankyou, I didn't find this site from anyone with your user I.D. I will look as I have time.

"There ought to be limits to freedom." - George W. Bush

Regarding this, - there are, they are called responsabilities, which also go with rights.

The_Jazz 12-15-2010 10:36 AM

No problem, thedoc. I was at another site and mentioned this one to someone with a similar username to yours. Call it mistake identity. :)

And the 3 quotes in my signature are meant to be read together. Independently they convey a much different meaning than I intend.

Hi all. I would like to introduce myself to the forum.

It's been quite a while since I've joined a message board but I found myself lurking for a few hours, intrigued by the discussions I have read here thus far. So intrigued in fact that I decided to become a member.

So again, hello...

And again, hi there!

Hello everyone!

I am a mid thirties guy in eastern Kansas. I have two kids under 10 which alternate between wonderful and devil spawn.

I found Tilted Forum while randomly browsing the web and I was heartened to see actual *intelligent* well reasoned argument and conversation happening *on the web!* I had to join!

I am an engineer. I love playing with electricity. I also do quite a bit of modelling...usually of trains but I do planes and automobiles also!

Hey, guys! Happy New Years, btw!
Well, haha! I found this site quite randomly, while googling hornet's nests & someone had posted something pretty entertaining on how to commit genocide on the little buggers. I lurked around for a couple minutes & decided that I really enjoyed this group of people, so here I am.
My name is Mo, I am a 20 year old student livin' in California. I'm into illustration, graphic, web &character design/implementation, working with kids, molecular biology, genetics, biotech, physics (I'm addicted to information, really). I'm new here and here's my intro: I'm 39, a single mother of two, work full-time, and live in Idaho. Nice to meet you. :)

Hi Jenny!

Hello All

I have no idea how I even found this place. Must have been a link from one of my many sidetrack roads. Looks interesting though as I've only posted at a couple other forums. (Guitar related). Don't know that I'll have the time to be a full time poster here but we'll see. I have an opinion and I've been known to share it.

Hey mrpesca. I'm new too. Welcome to us.

Cynthetiq 01-09-2011 12:13 AM

hey guys! Welcome!

What's a full time poster? I don't know what one is, we just come back and participate at the level that is comfortable for us. Some of us do it regularly maybe even daily. Some of us come and go every couple of months.

ellie 01-09-2011 12:22 AM

Maybe 38-40+ hours / week?
I dunno.

Cynthetiq 01-09-2011 12:37 AM

wait at 40 hours I should be getting health benefits. I'm going to have to talk to management about that. :D

my name is kamrat...that works.
i just like to roam forums in some of my free time and bullshit over random nonsense pop culture as well as philosophy, literature, recovery information (im a counselor) and other inane things.
what the hell does one say to introduce themselves to so many people?
