Something nice happen lately?
This is the anti-bitching thread. We all had fun with the "what annoys you" thread. This is where you report nice things that happened to you.
I'll start. Yesterday, I got in line at the supermarket. I had 3 things. The lady in front of me had about 1/2 a cartful. She was waiting in line when I came up behind her, looking at the magazines to pass the time as the person ahead of her checked out. I'd say she was in her mid to late 40's. We made eye contact and I smiled. She smiled back. She noticed that I had 3 things and that she had 1/2 a cart. She said, "Please, go ahead. You only have a couple of things." I said, "Honestly, I couldn't. You're very kind, but you were here first. I don't mind waiting." She replied, "Oh, no, really, I insist. Please go ahead." I felt like I was in "Sense and Sensibility" where everyone is so damn polite, even when the are arguing. Very british. Very civil. So I thanked her and went ahead. As I left the line, I turned back and said, "You know, I'm used to holding the door, not having it held. That was nice, thank you." We exchanged a smile and I left. Funny, but I'm used to behaving in a "chivalrous" manner. I like it. I won't tolerate rude or uncivil behavior in others, but I always try to be polite and nice. Hold the door, etc. This lady turned the tables. It felt good. |
Umm... it snowed.
|
I must have been around seven or eight at the
time when I held the door for an elderly couple. I was amazed at how grateful they were. After thanking me over and over, the gent said "It's a pity there aren't more young men like you around." Seeing how happy that small gesture of mine made them stayed with me and probably helped shape me into the wonderful human being I am today! ;) It's nice to be nice. |
We had the usual family get-together on Christmas day, where most of us become rawdy as hell. I've been told that my arrival is looked forward to by the youngin's because I'm willing to play. I'm getting older, and usually get hurt by these hooligans, but my mother says we are making great family memories for the kids.
I had never thought of that and it's well worth a bruise or two for Crazy Auntie Elph to be remembered in a good way. |
Couple of things.
Took the kids to the mall to exchange some things. Once we established a meeting place (son and dad their way, daughter and I ours), I linked my daughter's arm and we skipped down the walkway singing 'We're off to see the wizard!!! The wonderful wizard of Oz!' Ok, so I'm a goof.... Second thing: Decided to buy some Smirnoff's Ice tonight. After paying for it, I asked for 3 $2 lottery tickets-what the hell, only $6. Won $24! And I thought I had to work tomorrow morning, but I don't go in til tomorrow night, so another day of sleeping in  |
I fell in love.
|
I've been out sick today, and my wife has been fussing over me all day: making sure I'm warm enough, making tea and bringing it to me, and protesting whenever I propose doing some damn foolish thing like going out into the cold.
Hey, it's good to be loved. |

i didn't fall in love, but i'm pretty heavily in lust and it's mutual. does that count?
|
I listened to all the new music I bought. And I'm feeling better than yesterday.
|
My son called me over to the couch, just so he could hug me.
(Thanks! I really needed this thread, as he is refusing to fall asleep now) |
My wonderful aunt and uncle just took Martel and I out to dinner with them :)
And the car didn't explode in a puff of steam on the way home. Always good ;) |
Yesterday I found a 1925 Liberty quarter-dollar on the ground in a Dave and Buster's parking lot. Apparently it is worth several hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.
|
i bought myself 3 things today :p
a dress, a purse and a hat! :D :D :D |
Hats are way cool. :)
|
Wow, what great posts! Keep 'em coming!
|
Yesterday, I staved off an impending migraine with just a couple of Aleve. Whee!
|
Since I've been out of work, I've received gift certs. to a grocery store, and to wal-mart. People at church anonymously donated! Can't wait to repay in some way...
|
After the past 5 days of bad news after bad news after bad news... I was cleaning out my purse and dumping a bunch of reciepts from christmas purchases... and came across a rebate for a gift that I purchased on behalf of a buddy... buddy doesn't have to know that I got the rebate... right? and yay for staples for having such an easy rebate system... login - fill innumbers - submit - no cutting up boxes -- no sending in crap -- just away we go -- Hopefully I'll actually receive it..

Christmas happened. I LOVE Christmas.
|
I bought one of my favorite movies ever yesterday and now I can't wait to watch it with my son (I haven't had a chance to yet). Plus, I made some awesome manicotti for dinner :)
|
Had a birthday dinner yesterday and had expected about 3 friends to be there. Turns out that 7 showed up, some of whom I hadn't seen in a year or so minimum. And of course there were the Christmas and birthday presents (computer parts, game, MP3 player, boxers, etc).
|
I had a sublime Vanilla Latte with the perfect amount of cinnamon powder on top... and got to drink it before it ended up getting cold. And the cat came to seek me out and curl up, purring, on my chest tonight. Today, I bought the best snowboarding jacket so that I'll actually be warm for the rest of the winter and on the trip to NC in two weeks. It fits great, still looks cute and makes me feel all snuggly. :)
Sometimes it's the little things. Thanks for reminding us. |
Hooked up with a beautiful girl over the past couple of weeks and currently enjoying a relationship where it's still too early to say 'I love you.' Feels like love, though that might be because I've known her for a long time. I’ve spent the past few weeks trying to keep the smile from my soul away from my face in case they think that I am cracked and commit me. I never saw this coming! Dark cloud on the horizon though, that will have to be ignored for now, no doubt it will be in a post in the not too distant future.
*Does the 'might be in love but too soon to say so dance.'* Boy sure can't dance, but damn he's enthusiastic. |
Someone from work bought me a drink last night, and burned me a CD. :)
|
Our wonderful 20 year old grandkids spent the Christmas Holidays with us.
the other seven are 1400 miles away... and---a guy was tearing down some old computers and sold me a hard drive for $4 and I put it in one of the daycare computers that had went down --and it worked--now the kids have a learning tool again... the MRI showed what my year long problem has been---three herniated disc...surgeon is going to look at then on January 3rd... looking forwardto getting back to normal... |
Christmas brought a lot uf unexpected and generous gifts. On Christmas day I cried tears of joy -- real tears of joy! -- after receiving very heartfelt personal gifts and for feeling so lucky to know the people I know. How many people experienced gifts that good on Christmas?

The girlfriend, who is about 1000miles away for the holidays, sent me flowers (not on Christmas) for no reason about a week ago with a message telling me that she loves me and that she was thinking of me. She's never really done anything like that in our 2 years together, so that was awful nice :)

Hosted a great New Years Eve party with most of our best friends, and met some great new friends.
On New Years Day itself, quadro2000 and JustJess happened to be nearby here, having come in for a wedding. We got to take them to lunch at one of our favorite places, and spend a couple great hours hanging out and chatting with them. GREAT to see them again. Nice thing! |

That's a pretty cute "hat" Ratbastard is wearing. :D
|
Good news today! Hub's last chemo series was far less damaging than the first and all "counts" are within normal range. And of all his chemo buddies, he is the only one not to have lost his hair.
(He's been balding for years; I suspect he has only ninja fighting hairs left) :D |
Hot damn, that's great! You are both in my prayers.
|
I've been home from school since the 20th of December, which is longer than i'd been home the rest of 2005 combined.
I've found a girlfriend that matches my tastes, gets along with my dad, my mom and my stepdad wonderfully, takes great care of me, and is coming back from Lafyette in less than a week to see me :D I've found the strength of character to drastically reduce the amount of alcohol I consume, relying rather on nicotine and sleep to keep me sane and tolerable. and the best thing that's happened: I've found my way back to TFP in a far better mind than I left 8 months ago, able to contribute positively and enjoy myself in the company of so many kindred spirits. |
The other day, around lunchtime, I put our recycle-bin
outside the gate for its fortnightly collection. A little later, an elderly gentleman knocked on the door just to inform us that we'd missed the recycling lorry that day as he'd saw them collecting around 7:30am (it's normally 4:00pm) and would we like him to bring the bin back in for us?! What a nice man! :) |

I learned to fix something all by myself.
I've gotten a few great surprises this week... normally I hate surprises but I can't complain about these :) |
Circumstances conspired to have me shooting portraits of two professional photographers today. I was planning to get used to my new monolight today, but found myself diving in headfirst doing promo shots of them in from of the work they have in our gallery for our website. The first gave me some tips on lighting and helped me out, they both ended up liking the shots I got of them. Ended up with a big grin on my face and a huge boost in confidence.
