Until they come and bite you while you're sleeping...

Yea, uh huh, I've had that happen. Fucking spider.

ngdawg 07-28-2005 11:23 AM

oh my gawd, that's a centipede, not a silverfish!!!!!! UGH!. I smash those things with a passion usually reserved for sado-masochistic events......

Edit: if you sprinkle borax around the edges of your walls, it keeps them and other insects away. If you do get one and don't have the heart to smash it, hairspray works just as well as bugspray.(so does spraypaint, but dots of that around the house might not go with your decor)

I beat the shit out of large critters with a show or rolled up magazine. I can't stand them.

these are the centipedes i know...

ngdawg 07-29-2005 07:39 AM

We call those millipedes...they live outside as opposed to centipedes who live indoors.
And I would just like to add: thanks for the disgusting dream I had about trying to kill one that simply refused to die....UGH

little_tippler 07-29-2005 09:03 AM

this looks like a silverfish to me, albeit a rather large one. They are pretty common in Portugal and usually roam in bathrooms...beats me why. They're harmless and I've never heard of anyone coming to any harm because of them. They do scuttle about in a nervous way and are a little yucky.

Glad it wasn't my house.

He ended up retouching it with paint, needless to say.

I was at a party once, and in the front yard of the house there were a few trees that were infested with tent worms. Tent worms are the most disgusting race of insects ever made. Anyway, they make huge silk "tents" in the branches of the tree, and eat the leaves and stuff. We decided it would be fun to "torch them" with a lighter and hairspray. The result was horrible. Flaming catipilars falling from the trees in clumps writhing on the ground like maggots. *shivvvveeerrrr* I will never forget that sight. That was the same night we found out what happens when you hit a can of whipped cream with a hammer.

TYPE OF DAMAGE: A household pest, they feed on cereals and non-food items such as paste, paper, starch in clothes, rayon fabrics and dried meats.
Anything that eats paper--comic books are made of paper--and rayon is not harmless in my book. If I see a silverfish, it's time for the exterminator.

Better check and double-check for mice then.
Mice destroyed one of my collections to use for a nest. :|

It is done periodically. Our home is relatively new, a condo less than ten years old, but we still have a yearly pest inspection, partly because we're part of a fourplex and our tenants may not be as conscientious as we are about maintenence that prevents pests.
