Spitting ______ all over my screen

What's the deal when people say things like, "I laughed so hard I spit coke all over my keyboard!"? I usually can't figure out if people are being serious, sometimes it's obvious they were just saying it as another way of saying "really funny" but sometimes it's not so obvious.

Personally I never use the phrase, nor have I ever laughed so hard I couldn't control myself (come close though, I also rarely drink around my comp).

So, what about you guys, yall use it as a phrase or are you serious when you type that?

Drider_it 06-16-2005 10:31 PM

well then again i have sat around in my puter chair.. drinking a cup of coffee when spontanious eruption of emotion response came upon me.. either from a vid i was watching, or catching up on the goings on in my game community.

not much you can do if your prone to laughing and have a twisted..er tilted sense of humor.

for reasons of insanity i keep my coffee pot next to my monitor. im lazy and well playing games like I do I rarely get up when i dont have to.

that and im a slob. the clutter alone on my desk would send a fire marshel into retirement.

I haven't done it, but I feel a real sense of accomplishment when a friend, coworker or family member passes their drink through their nose due to a well-worded witticism  Of course, when it is a carbonated beverage or something thick like milk I usually apologise for the timing.

i'd say 99 times out of 100 its an expression. i've never used it, but its not an easy thing to do, holding liquid in your mouth and reading/watching whatever's going on on the screen at the same time is a tough thing to do, i'd think.

More common is LMAO. Laughing my ass off.

I've never seen anyone literally do this.

tecoyah 06-17-2005 03:00 AM

If I find something funny....Generally I will simply type "heh"

On the rare occasion you see "lol".....I actually did laugh out loud

HamiC 06-17-2005 04:51 AM

Haven't used the particular expression....seems like a bit too much information....but have definitely laughed various liquids up and out.

Soda hurts. Milk is not so bad.

I generally have a cup of coffee next to my keyboard. I've replaced several due to someone's witty retort.

Ripsaw 06-17-2005 06:11 AM

I've done it. Its hilarious, and a pain in the ass to clean up at the same time.

I had a buddy in college who was quite prone to this, which we called "snarfing". The best one was when we made him snarf spicy Chinese noodles. That one left a mark.

I know what you mean. It really gets on my nerves because a large majority of FARK comments are "Thanks XXX user, you owe me a new keyboard!!" or "Thanks, now I have to clean off my monitor." I'm sure that most, if not all of these comments are joking, but it really annoys me how they take it so far when they didn't actually do it. I guess it's the same reason LMAO and ROFL get on my nerves...no one actually does it. I don't even use LOL because I rarely laugh out loud at the computer.

Once i did that in a movie theater. I was drinking coke, and for whatever funny thing happening on the screen or next to me, I had to burst out laughing...thank god that I was sitting in the front row. Also thank god that wasn't a date..

raeanna74 06-17-2005 07:14 AM

I don't say that unless it's truely the case. I think I spit it out once but that was more or less because I started to laugh, held it back, choked on what I was drinking, and then COUGHED it all over. Otherwise my daughter has christened my keyboard on more than one occaision. It's be completely disassembled to be cleaned MORE than once.

snarfing rice is very painful.

Elphaba 06-17-2005 09:25 AM

I confess I have snarfed more times than I can count. Thankfully, I have only managed to kill two keyboards.

Jinn 06-17-2005 09:46 AM

I've done the same.. it was the cough hold it down cough all over the effing place variety.. I dont usually aspirate enough during a laugh to suck anything down there, but if it does.. whamo my throat will kick it back out.

As for lol, I use it interchangeably with heh and hah.. hard to communicate humor over the internet, which is why I think people overuse the "OMGz0r I just spit on my m0nitor"..

I think the only way I can truly communicate it was funny was with a bah.. ie... BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. sounds more like a spontaneous laugh to me..

RoadRage 06-17-2005 07:28 PM

All this spitting. http://members.cox.net/wd40/oyvey.gif Doesn't anyone ever swallow any more?

dlish 06-18-2005 05:13 PM

too many movies i rekon. usually the closest ive come is having coke up ure nose when a funny enexpected moment comes along

Cuatela 06-20-2005 08:53 AM

I don't usually show emotion when I'm on my computer...unless I'm watching a funny movie. but even then, I only use "lol", "rofl", or "hehe"

Suave 06-20-2005 06:56 PM

Neither, and I haven't done a spit-take laugh, but I've done sort of a laugh-drool, and the classic laughing-with-milk-out-the-nose. Got chunks of candy in my nose once as well, but that was just painful.

We called it snorking in my group. Made a buddy snork his pizza once, which initsef is bad. Stack on top of that he liked to cover his pizza in Tabasco sauce.... Yeah, he was hurting.... But it was so damn funny.
