What really annoys you?

Sitting here thinking about my pet peeves and the things that really annoy me. People who feel the need to be so ignorant and stupid bother me. You know those people... the ones that can't understand directions no matter how many times you give them. The people who do the same thing over and over again even though they've been told by many others that what they are doing is harmful. I have students like this. No matter what they've been told about sitting with the chair on two legs (instead of all four), they continue to do it (just an example).

What are your pet peeves? What really annoys you?

sixate 04-20-2003 07:54 AM

I hate when people choose usernames that can never be pronounced.

It drives me nuts to see a hot chic smoking or doing drugs.

I almost go insane when I'm at the grocery store and someone is paying whith a check. These morons always wait until they have their total to even start writing the damn thing out. They coulda had almost everything done while they waited in line for 5 minutes. Old people that pay for shit at the grocery store with a mountain of dimes and nickels. Just go to the bank and trade that shit in on some paper for christ's sake!

Slow servers. I'm on a dual DS3 connection and I'm used to pages loading in less than a second and when they take forever to load, it can be pretty annoying.

And the paying for groceries with a check annoys me too! I always either pay with cash or credit (or check card) just to hurry the hell up. I've only written like two checks so far in my life (I'm 19)..

 • Stubborn people that fail to even consider another viewpoint.
 • People that say things with the sole intention of starting trouble.
 • Smoking and people that smoke around me.
 • Excessive talking/calling on a cell phone when with friends.
 • People that hate abstract things and refuse to be open-minded.

Quadraton 04-20-2003 08:07 AM

That's the million dollar question.

1) People who build their careers out of criticizing other people's hard work.

Those who can, do.
Those who can't, criticize those who can.

2) People who leave their phone numbers on voice mail too fast at the end of a looooooong message.

3) People who think it's their God given right to act like an asshole on the Internet, simply because they cower behind their keyboards and use anonymous nicknames.

4) People who don’t think their software piracy is actually stealing. Pirate if you must, just don’t tell me what you’re doing isn’t stealing.

5) Bad parents, who blame violent video games for the corruption of our youth, yet couldn’t tell anyone what their children are up to at this very moment.

6) Protestors who think that tossing a mailbox through a window, or spraying graffiti all over a building is making a political statement.

7) People who abuse statistics to garner favour to their cause. That includes just tossing a news article that talks about a statistical study into the pile, and stating “Voila! I have succeeded in proving my point”

8) Brett Hull. He's not a pet peeve. He just pisses me off.

a1t3r3g0 04-20-2003 08:13 AM

Oh, and another one: people who drive slow in the left lane of a two lane (each direction) highway that won't get over when you come up behind them, even if it is perfectly clear in the right lane.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I were to just ram into the back of them. That'd teach 'em  (ok so not really, but it does annoy me).

yournamehere 04-20-2003 10:12 AM

People who think they're too good to use the parking lot like the rest of us at the grocery store. These people are always in >$30K vehicles'

It makes me want to leave a keystreak down the sides of all those Mercedes parked at the entrance to Krogers.

Usually I just settle for a loogie, though.

BBtB 04-20-2003 10:24 AM

What annoys me is people who can't follow simple directions. This one is a little like JadziaDax's except I can't say anything about people leaning back in chairs because that WAS me. (and half the reason I did it was because it anoyed the teacher and I never had a chair fall down or break under me. Unless you are leaning waay back or weigh 300+ lbs or its a REALLY cheap chair it shouldn't happen) But were I work now I have to help people work there directv systems and I understand not everyone grasps electronic equipment the same way I do BUT come on. Its not that hard when I tell you to go to this option in the menu screen all you have to do is hit the down arrow button twice and hit either the select or ok button. This is not rocket science people. Another thing that bugs me is when you get into a debate with someone who does not know what they are talking about. You can disagree with me all you want but when you just simply do not even know the facts. This is mostly drug related and I am pro drug legalization for a number of drugs so of course alot of people want to argue with you and 95% of their arguement is "well... its illegal". Anyway.

OK,OK - I admit it was more a wish than actual action, and I'll edit my post to reflect that.

And, BTW, I have, on many occasions, waited by the car to let the owner(s) know how I felt. Same for when they're in Handicap spaces.

That being said, I would respectfully suggest you evaluate your particlar way of expressing your opinion on this board. In one sentence, you called me petty, childish, and stupid - and questioned my manhood. There are ways of expressing your feelings other than name-calling. This isn't Fark.

A simple "Dude - that ain't cool." would've sufficed :)

Sion 04-20-2003 11:10 AM

whats more annoying, the people who wont use their turn signals, or those that wont cancel the signal after a lane change? you know, the ones who leave it on for like 15 miles at a time.

my biggest pet peeve is tailgaters. I FUCKING hate people who tailgate. am I the ONLY one on the planet who remembers the old rule? ONE car length for every TEN miles per hour. At highway speed, that means 7 fucking car lengths between you and the car in front of you. Hell, these days you're lucky to get 7 feet.

one of these days i might just mount an oil spill device under that back of my car. maybe if one of these morons wipes out on 10 gallons of oil at 65 mph they'll get the friggin message.

pseudopsycho 04-20-2003 11:16 AM

cops. they annoy the hell out of me. always pulling you over and breaking up parties and whatnot.

snowy 04-20-2003 11:30 AM

Pet peeves: people who stop in the middle of the aisle to talk to someone at the grocery store/mall/other store and block up traffic on either side of them.

People who talk on cell phones while obviously with another person, neglecting the social opportunity sitting right next to them.

People who blame society and the educational system for their childrens problems and then vote to cut taxes to said educational system/social welfare system.

Parents who bitch about how expensive college tuition is getting when they either a) don't pay a dime of their child's tuition, and/or b) have voted to cut taxes to the educational systems in their state.

People in ungraduate requirement courses that are in my major who waste all the professor's time asking stupid, meaningless questions because they can't be bothered to listen or go to office hours.

People who whisper while surrounded by other people, not letting people in on that part of the conversation. C'mon, be considerate. If you can't say it in mixed company, wait and say it when you're alone with the other person.

Okay...think I'm done ;)

* People that drive too slow in the fast lane. (If you see me coming up to you...MOVE OVER!!)

* People that don't understand normal road rules (ie..If you are in the fast lane and someone comes up behind you and flashes their lights, it means to move over!!)

* People that don't use their signal when turning.

That's all I can think of right now...

neoinoakleys 04-20-2003 02:51 PM

Poorly behaved children. I love my grandchildren and other than two, they are great. So, what irkes me is poorly trained children, they grow up to be poorly mannered adults.

Manners are very important to me.

Somenosuke 04-20-2003 03:08 PM

Lack of personal responsibility really makes my blood boil, also. Like that bloke who tried to sue McDonalds because he got fat. Uhhhm. Riiiight. I'm an obese person, and I don't blame anyone but myself for it. I don't blame society, or my parents, or the fast food chains, or my cat or anything like that.

Same thing with people who blame society/video games/music/tv/movies for their kids doing idiotic things. My parents were nice enough to have a talk with my brothers and I about not doing the silly things we saw on television, instead of waiting until someone set my pants on fire to worry about it and say "Oh, damn it to hell! That damned television made my kid do something he/she ought to have known better about in the first place!"

It also angers me to see parents neglecting their kids. I mean blatantly. I know it's impossible to have an eye on your kids every nanosecond of the day, but I have seen some outrageous things. I was riding the bus home from class last summer, and there was this little kid outside -all by himself- with nobody looking after him at all. He was on his little tricycle and was sitting at the edge of his driveway, trying to touch the bus as it raced past him. This little boy could not have been older than 3, and there wasn't a soul around anywhere. Nobody in the yard watching, not even looking out the front door or window. The neighborhood was almost desolate, and this little boy was just wandering around to get hurt/killed/whatever. Things like that make me sick.

I personally don't intend to really ever have kids, and I don't profess to have all the answers (I'm only turning 20 next weekend, so I certainly don't know everything!), but common sense would say that people should -not- let their kids wander around in the street unsupervised. I'm sure if that little boy had been hit by the bus, the parents would have sued, and nobody would have asked why he was in harm's way like that in the first place.

Uh, whoops! Went off on a huge tangent. Sorry. :o

Actually, this is a bit difficult to classify as stealing in my books, based on my current circumstances anyway. I earn enough money to pay the rent/bills, and i have a little bit extra for food/going out once in a while. If i had to pay for my software, I would be flat broke very very fast. And, given the ultimatum between paying for software and not having software, id pick not having software.

If i didnt have software at home, i could use the uni computers to do what i wanted, so its no real biggie, and im not costing the company potential money by not buying it. Additionally, when I "pirate" software, I am not denying someone else the ability to go and buy it, so it doesnt really constitute as piracy either.

Jesus Pimp 04-20-2003 03:44 PM

Just to name a few..

-Religious fanatics, leave me and other people the fuck alone
-Smokers who breathe smoke at you as they walk pass.
-Hot girls who have chunky kneecaps.
-People who brag about their PHds but have no common sense thus are complete morons.
-How the media reports news. People actually believe this shit?

MSD 04-20-2003 03:45 PM

People who will not acknowledge a problem, and attack the symptom instead of the cause, or a side effect.

-Drug abuse is almost never the problem itself, it's related to poverty, lack of real parenting, depression, kids just wanting to fit in so badly that they'll do anything, and things like that. It happens because a real alternative to living life as it is doesn't exist for people.

-Violence is not inherently caused by caused by music, movies, and TV. If a kid is brought up by parents who make sure they let him know that violence is only acceptable in fiction before they let him see and hear about it, and he isn't mentally ill, he will be able to make the right choices. A child who has had a history of depressoion nad psychosis should be taken care of and watched. If parents would take some time to think, they would realize that a psychotic teenager using a pipe-bomb as a paperwieght is a serious problem. Like Eminem (who I don't usually use as a reliable source) said, "... some kid's getting bullied/and shoots up his school/and they blame it on Marilyn [Manson]/ and the heroin/where were the parents at? ..."

The turn signal thing

Tailgaters

Slow people in the fast lane (they can now get ticketed for it in IL)

People who park cars across multiple spaces. I have a hydraulic jack with wheels, and my brother and I are not afraid to use it to move them (without damaging their vehicle) into only one space. I propose a law that makes the punishment for this offense as follows:
"Any person who parks a passenger vehicle in such a way that it occupies more than one designated parking space, shall be punished by the following: A law-enforcement official shall determine which space the majority of the vehicle occupies. Any portion that is outside of that space will subsequently cut off and welded onto the top of the vehicle in such a way that it will not prevent adjoining spaces from being used, and that it will not prevent the vehicle from leaving the parking area. Any material that cannot be welded onto the vehicle without violating the above conditions will be impounded and assessed a storage fee not to exceed 100 dollars per day. No legal or financial action may be taken against any person involved in the enfocrcement of this law, and insurance providers are not compelled to reimburse customers from damage to vehicles resulting from the enforcement of this law.

Bigwahzoo 04-20-2003 03:52 PM

People with annoying cell phone rings, especially those that don't answer their phone right away. Our school library has a floor for quite group study and all is you hear all day long is annoying ringtones. They include a vibrate feature for a reason.

ARRH 04-20-2003 04:09 PM

I think the most annoying thing that can happen is not having a good shower in the morning. If there is not enough pressure, that it just drips down... That will seriously piss me off.

Then people who don't know the road code. Like the "right-of-way" rule. You stop to let them go, and what do they do... nothing!!!

Or people that come up behind you on the highway, and start flashing already a km behind you for you to move over. I can't stand people driving unneccesarily in the left lane, but don't flash, that's even worse!

The thing that absolutely pisses me off the most has to be the fact that I cannot control my anxiety. You can keep searching, but will never really get to the route of the problem.

That's what pisses me off,

Rinndalir 04-20-2003 04:29 PM

Bad drivers. When I'm a multimillionare I'm going to buy a bunch of POS used cars (heh like the one I drive now :D ) and use em to smash into all the idiots that cut me off, pull out in front of me, run red lights, tailgate...and my REAL car is going to be a bigass Hummer with a missile battery so I can blow up other cars and then drive over their flaming wreckage...

Cell phones. God how I hate them. Especially in the movies, where 15 year old girls will carry on a whole fucking conversation while you're trying to enjoy a show. When I'm rich I'm going to commission someone to build me a cellphone jammer so they don't ring within 100 feet of me

People who are computer illiterate. Actually, people who are computer illiterate and annoy me for help. Like "Hey my computer did this weird thing last night, and there was this message, do you know how to fix it?" Yeah just click Start>Run and type regedit, and anything you see that you don't need, delete it.

Hmmmm I guess I have become quite bitter in my old age :)

Evan 04-20-2003 04:33 PM

This one girl at school. God forbid if she ever talks to me again i think ill lose it and just hit her. So annoying, just everything about her. She should die.

*People who pull into the left lane to pass a car in the right, then slow down to match speeds with the car on the right when you pull out to pass too. (happened the other day... the guy took off as soon as we went to pass on the far right)
*Cell phones. I used to want one, now I don't know if I do... One of my friends got one for Christmas, and she has it with her all the time. We'll be watching a movie, she'll get a call, and she'll leave the room to talk. That just pisses me off. Please just turn off the damn phone!
*People who are really intense, stare at you with a feverish gaze, and invade your personal space when they talk to you. I'm generally pretty good at accepting people how they are, but that kind of person gets on my nerves. Throw in a bit of elitism, and that annoying habit of going on and on about something that you've told them you're not really interested in, and it makes me want to run away screaming.

Or, sometimes they say "allot" because that is the only thing that spell check will tell them when they type "alot" instead of "a lot."

Dammit! That's me. One of my other unmentioned pet peeves was slow people walking in front of me. Especially groups of slow people walking side-by-side down a narrow hallway. I mean, show some consideration, and get out of my way! You would think these people were walking though quicksand or something?

It doesn't help that I'm a very fast walker.

bundy 04-20-2003 07:52 PM

bad manners.
when people don't take that split second out of their day to please, thank and bless others, that really peeves me.

Strawberry69666 04-20-2003 09:35 PM

Let's see...it bugs me most when girls talk and they have the hight pitch queek voice! Ahhh....I want to shoot them...but I can't.

jets 04-20-2003 10:13 PM

Hmm. Too many but here are a few.

- You sit there waiting for an opening in traffic to make your left turn. ASSHOLE-man approaching your intersection doesn't signal his intention to turn right forcing you to wait for nothing and get trapped by wave of traffic number2.

- People who stand right UP MY ASS in line at wherever. Shoo flies.

- People that talk loud on their cell phones where it's quiet.

My roommate annoys me. However, there are only a few weeks left in this semester. At least he goes home every weekend.

Slims 04-21-2003 12:01 PM

I hate it when people lever authoritarian pronouncements at me instead of allowing me to judge for myself what is safe, or reasonable.

For instance, (no offense JadziaDax) I can't stand it when people tell me that I can't sit with my chair on two legs. I have never once fallen that way, and if I were to slip, I would just get a bump on my head.

Or people telling me that I shouldn't go rock climbing,
or that I should go to church,
or that I can't buy beer until two pm on sundays,
or that I shouldn't have sex, etc.

i8one2 04-21-2003 01:20 PM

people who can't follow simple instructions
People who use there credit card to pay for something under $10
People who think they are entitled

Atropos4 04-21-2003 01:50 PM

when people post mean posts in a thread

what ever happened to hitting the back button if you can't say anything pleasant?

Hey now, I think that I am entitled to pay for something under $10 with my credit card!

But it is a little hard for me to follow the instructions on how to swipe my car. Sometimes I just can't figure out which way faces which, and then it tells you to tell the cashier you're using credit but she always hits the credit button anyway. It's just mindboggling.

meembo 04-21-2003 03:55 PM

as weird as it sounds at first, people who don't bother to try to uderstand mental illness. I think it's one of the illnesses that is least understood, most feared, and never tolerated as a disease. Nobody wants it, but lots of people do crazy shit because no one wants to deal with it (including HMOs)

rockogre 04-21-2003 05:49 PM

What really annoys me? People that think they need to "jolly me up" when I don't want to be jolly. I LIKE grumpy, it ensures me a miminum of personal space like nothing else. Some people are too happy for their own good and I don't like them trying to put it on me. I'll be happy if I want to without any help.

Same with religion and politics. Keep em to yourself.

silverback 04-21-2003 08:46 PM

People who drive to fast in the mornings because apparently they are running late for work.....also people who tailgate you when your doing five to ten miles over the speed limit allready.

zmbabwe 04-21-2003 09:00 PM

I hate it when you wait in a long line at a street light, and when you finally have a green someone cuts you off from the other lane to get in yours so they don't have to wait in the line in my lane. ARGH!!!!!

Spidey 04-21-2003 09:56 PM

People treating other people differently because they are different in terms of race, colour, religion.

myMHz 04-22-2003 01:06 AM

You know what burns my ass?
A flame about three and half feet tall!

People on those cell phones when they drive.
Loud neighbors
Stupid callers
Being Ignored

zizdog69 04-22-2003 04:54 AM

Wow, everything that annoys me is already listed. One thing I really get upset about is the Snow Birds that come to Arizona from all different states in the winter. They don't know where their going so they will drive 10 miles under the speed limit, in the left lane, on a busy road. Remember, its not the end of the world if you miss the street. Just go to the next light and hang a U-ey!!

rs8001 04-22-2003 04:12 PM

It really annoys me when I open a bag of chips or that one in the cereal box and it tears down the side.

WhoaitsZ 05-02-2003 05:45 PM

i get so angry so easily i may add more.

as for severe bouts of anger. right now i'll just mention once having a surgery NOT asleep.... and the surgeon scolded me for cussing... oh and when i almost fucked up my chair to get into a video store that carried porn.... to only get inside to find out they had /another/ room that i could not get into. i cussed those people blue.

hmmm.........

gibber71 05-02-2003 05:59 PM

Disrespectful people.....You sling that brand of bullshit my way and you see what you get.

greytone 05-02-2003 06:25 PM

People who choose ignorance over knowledge and people who are not capable of understanding how they are affecting or inconveniencing others (me).

apetaster 05-02-2003 06:28 PM

People who touch me, especially on the train. I touch back.

People who read over others' shoulders.

nefarious 05-02-2003 06:29 PM

.. my pet peeve is when people sing lyrics wrong ...

what gets me mad ...
people abusing their kids, people hurting animals..(ohhh never do that in front of me) .. money hungry companies or organizations (RIAA ..etc.)

and the worst:
"You must be 21 to _________"

i just got news that our beautiful state of Arizona is going to raise the minimum gambling age to 21.

F-U-C-K them!!! i guess i can smoke, join the military, vote .. but i can't gamble my own money.

ARG!! DONT GET ME STARTED!!! >:O

IC3 05-02-2003 06:43 PM

People who think they are better than everyone around them.

People that do under the speed limit.

Animal Abusers.

When I was growing up, There was nothing that pissed me off more than older people telling me what/how to do things there way...Because it works for them...Well, Fucker..I am not you.

Country Music.

Anybody that has Authority over me...My Supervisers at work & Police...I don't mind being asked to do something, But when somebody tells me to do something, That gets under my skin.

I know there is more, Just can't think of any.

ARTelevision 05-02-2003 06:58 PM

I don't need the irritation.
If I have a peeve, I let go of it.
Life is short.

NetterButter 05-02-2003 10:02 PM

people that are persistent about being correct when it is obvious that they are fuckheads.

people that yell at me to make them feel better.

people that read over my shoulders.

lazy people.

people.

shalafi 05-02-2003 10:11 PM

Anyone that hurts children in any way

godowomen 05-02-2003 11:38 PM

people with more the alloted amount of items in the express lane.

MilleniumZeus 05-03-2003 12:17 AM

Extremely slow cashiers when I am in a rush and poor customer service. When students choose to sleep in class or talk when I am trying to teach. Teachers who show videos in class rather than teach becuase they are too gosh darn lazy. I am sure I can think of more. Back to you guys on this.

I have others, too, but that's my biggest one. Fuck that god damn company!

sierra2774 05-03-2003 06:58 AM

My biggest pet peeve is being ignored....What I mean by that is have you ever been telling someone something really important to you just to turn around and find out they did not listen to a word you said?

I hate that. I feel like the majority of my life has been spent listening to others and making them feel important, but I seem to be ignored all the time! I hate it! Makes me very angry.

Of course there are other things that make me mad too, but that one tops my list Today.

The people w/ the cardboard signs asking for money (and before anybody flames me for this, yes, I have walked a mile in their shoes). Get a damn job already!

asdf1001 05-03-2003 02:01 PM

my wife sets the clock ahead about 20 minutes so she won't be late ... SHE'S ALWAYS LATE, THOUGH!!! Here I am rushing like a mad man to get somewhere, when she says " the clock is set wrong" ... damn that shit pisses me off ...
