I need gift advice! (please!)

The tenth of May is my three year anniversary with my boyfriend.

We've decided that since neither of us has money (I have about seven dollars to my name right now) we're not doing anything extravagent until we get onto our feet again.

But I'd still like to do something for him.

Here are the criteria:
1. Doesn't cost too much! I can probably borrow up to thirty dollars from mum, but I'd really rather not.

2. It needs to be something I can realistically do by the tenth. Considering that school is over as of Monday and I don't have a job anymore, I have an entire week to complete whatever it is.

3. You can't be upset if I don't use your idea.

make him a coupon book of silly/sexy/nice things to do...
1. one picnic lunch
2. a backrub
3. control of the remote for an evening
4. one really dirty story written where he's the star

Definately go the sentimental route. What was the first real meal you guys shared?

My last girlfriend (oh, so long ago ) brought me pie for an anniversary. We used to hang out after work (usually late at night) and the first thing I bought her was a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. We went to Shoney's after work with a few folks and eventually it was just us. She didn't have any money on her, so I offered to pick up the check. It was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, and she decided then and there that I was dateable material. A year later, money was tight and I was upset that I didn't have much to spend on her, so, I made her dinner and she brought the pie (from Shoney's even). It was one of the nicest and sweetest things a woman has ever done for me.

I'm most definitely doing a bit of cooking on the day of the tenth! None of the food is particularly romantic, but they're his favorites:

Maybe even get him a new pair of boxers. Don't get expensive. Then say you want to see him model them for ya. Dunno, just brainstorming.

The food idea is the best. It doesn't matter how 'romantic' it is. That menu does sound quite yummy. Comfort food is the best.

Seriously, the coupon thing is cool, especially if you hold up to your end of the bargain. You can write personalized coupons (which shows how much you know about him), you can be totally silly and goofball if you want or totally romantic and serious. When the coupon is presented for you to be redeemed, that is where the true gift is exchanged... You put his wants over yours.

Ditto the coupon book. You write up a couple of gift certificates for his favorite services provided by you, and you are the bomb-diggity-doo! Don't forget to include variations on a theme. Time to be creative!

I like the food and coupon idea. You could also give him a massage (I mentioned this in another gift thread...I'm big on massages ) . You don't need expensive massage oil, baby oil does the trick and isn't too expensive.

NACHOOOOSSSS! For Valentines Day, I made Greg a book of love. All it cost was time. *Awwwwwwwe* I just took a plain notebook and filled it with love quotes, things I love about him, etc. Since you two have a little more history you could write your memories etc. I also made him a *revised* box of chocolates. I took a record, melted it into a record bowl, put tissue paper down and layered it with heart shaped homemade oatmeal cookies, candy hearts and cinnamon hearts. It cost under $5. But I'm sure the only thing that will matter to your boyfriend is that you're together to celebrate.

I would say make him dinner but then again, you'd have to buy the stuff to cook, so that's a dead deal. My second suggestion would be, gather a vase, or a container, take a couple of sheets of paper, cut them into little pieces, write secret messages to him, things you would want him to know, jokes for when he's sad, favorite songs, etc and take really tiny ribbons and tie little bows on these notes and place them in the container, don't stop until the container is full. This is very inexpensive, the only thing you'd have to pay for is the ribbon and probably the vase, if you don't already have one. Also! You can get like skittles or m&m's and throw them in the container. TRUST ME, he would love it!

Simon's a huge Magic geek. Yes, the card game aimed at preteens that somehow manages to appeal (and profit most from) college to middle aged geek boys.

I'm making him personalized cards in photoshop!
