Had me fooled, until my gf pointed out that it is April 1st.

good job, thats the first time in years that someone has gotten me that bad.

passthru 04-01-2005 08:20 AM

Nice one Hal :P
I saw the scroll bar on the right though, so scrolled down and started browsing.. then realized oh yeah it's april 1st.

Powderedmaggot 04-01-2005 09:26 AM

All that did ws make me poke around for a different way in.

rainheart 04-01-2005 09:29 AM

Ohhhhh you got me man, I fell for it. And I thought maybe you got into trouble because of the titty board or something.

Wingless 04-01-2005 09:44 AM

You got me for the past half hour or so!

liquidlight 04-01-2005 09:52 AM

Awww, I missed out until I found the thread, but I did all my morning browsing just waiting for somebody to pull something and I missed the best one!

kutulu 04-01-2005 09:56 AM

I thought zug.com had the best prank of the year. The whole thing about the free vasectomies for fat men was a prank. That had national attention.

Yes, this is a FAKE Medical Journal website for a FAKE medical association, complete with a fake voicemail system. Most of the stories and articles you read here are true... Just not that one that probably brought you here. Sorry about that. I know how badly you wanted it to be true (because hey, it wouldn't have made the news under your name if you DIDN'T). Alas, it's not. We made it up.

Why, you ask? Well, we're still tired.

Once again, we've proved that so-called "journalists" at so-called "reputable news agencies" are so-called "Fucking lazy". Furthermore, bloggers... Shame on you! It's not like we didn't drop about two billion clues that this particular article might not be full to the brim with medical fact, you know. The integrity part of Journalistic Integrity has been left completely by the wayside, and reporters / writers / disc jockeys / what-have-you are simply scraping sites like Fark.com and BoingBoing.net for news and updates.

billege 04-01-2005 10:05 AM

I'm a dork also. I blame only having one cup of coffee to that point. I click, I get the message.

*blink*blink* okay...

Now, considering that I made 1/2" wide labels that said "April Fools!" and stuck them on the undersides of my co-workers mice last night before I left (at midnight), I'm going to assume this is a joke. Okay, view source...

I read some code. I see it's all still there. so...why don't I see it? Hm, I keep looking. I see all the "< br >" in the "message" table, and.....nothing clicks.

Now I nuke the cookies and go to see the main page. Okay, it's there. Hm. Do some clicking, find my way around. The site's there. *sips coffee* "now what the hell..."

Go back to the "message" page...read source....

OH! br. Duh.
*smack head*
*scroll down*

Sigh.

Happy April 1st all! Thanks Hal!

meembo 04-01-2005 10:07 AM

hook, line, & sinker

Midnight_Son 04-01-2005 10:09 AM

he got me, and I'm man enough to admit it

Slavakion 04-01-2005 10:12 AM

I was half-convinced for a little while. It was mostly "Okay, when is Hal gonna fix the forum index so I can use it".

ElwoodBlues 04-01-2005 10:22 AM

God DAMN. For a good 5 minutes I was having a little freak out session, then I realized what day it was. SHITE

FngKestrel 04-01-2005 10:27 AM

Got a good chuckle out of me. :) This, in the midst of plotting April Fool's Day gags on our late coworkers. :D

muttonglutton 04-01-2005 10:43 AM

Heh, I actually went around checking all my favourite sites, to see what 'fools they would try to be pulling. I almost expected the mighty TFP to say it had been shut down, or to get a random redirect. You had me wondering a little bit until I scrolled down though. :P

Happy 'Fools!

Hardknock 04-01-2005 10:43 AM

Nice job. Got me for a minute

MiSo 04-01-2005 11:26 AM

had me for about two minutes. =)

nice try though, almost worked

Charlatan 04-01-2005 11:36 AM

Had me for a little then I remembered what day it was...

Problem was I didn't think to scroll down... I've been waiting all day for the damn site to start up and have pictures of Hal laughing his ass off...

teshadoh 04-01-2005 11:42 AM

Ok - you got me really good. I even admitted my ignorance at another site :)

Yakk 04-01-2005 11:45 AM

Having visited fark before here sort of made it obvious. =)

You do know you can scroll down to see the actual page right?

Toker 04-01-2005 11:59 AM

So tricky!

Sugar&Spice 04-01-2005 12:05 PM

I had my boyfriend's number dialed waiting to tell him that my favorite forum was being shutdown and how I didn't know how I would spend my time without it. But then I realized what today was and felt like an idiot!

ironman 04-01-2005 12:05 PM

As i use Firefox's Live Bookmarks, i never go trhough the main page. Anyway, that was a good one!!

440sixpack 04-01-2005 12:11 PM

I knew as soon as I saw it what it was... but it still took me a couple minutes to figure out how to get in. :D

It didnt occur to me that the scroll bar showed a lot of real estate left at the bottom of the page.

bernadette 04-01-2005 12:25 PM

yknow, i was actually concerned... since the tfp myspace group actually disappeared today too. i thought maybe they were connected in the shut down.

i think i may have figured it out sooner if my husband wasn't home today keeping me offline. but yeah, good ol' "check source code" to the rescue.

i haven't had a good apr fools prank for many many yrs.
 hal, y'bastard. hahahakisshahaha

Phant84 04-01-2005 12:26 PM

good one. you had me bitching for a minute

joeshoe 04-01-2005 02:08 PM

I belived it for about 5 seconds. I actually exclaimed outloud, "What?!" But then I remembered what it is.

Stompy 04-01-2005 02:17 PM

I knew it was an April Fool's joke right away, but I had to have a friend tell me about the whole "scrolling down" thing.

I thought "Hm, okay.. I'm sure others will be fooled, but you mean I actually have to WORK today?! C'mon.. bring it back up."

lunchbox 04-01-2005 02:20 PM

never got me, I was linked right from my email to one of the threads and i replied to it, then i came back later in the day and got that so i figured it was bs. :-p nice effort though hal.

pattycakes 04-01-2005 02:23 PM

god damn it dont scare me like that... now what if i didnt scroll down... and never came back again...:-( well that probably would have made evryone here happy!!!

Redlemon 04-01-2005 02:26 PM

I have bookmarks that take me directly to "View new posts" and "Advanced search", so I wouldn't have seen this prank at all if you guys hadn't mentioned it.

Where's Halx to gloat about his success? I also wonder if he pulled any other tricks, he had some great ones last year.

saut 04-01-2005 02:28 PM

My heart dropped whenever I read the first line. Then I saw the word "gag" and put 2 and 2 together. Still a good one.

hiredgun 04-01-2005 02:28 PM

i didn't fall for it at all, though it took me some time to figure out how to get back in here : P

Fremen 04-01-2005 02:32 PM

You would've gotten me good, Hal, but for the PM popup message from bundy. :)
Good joke!

PayUp 04-01-2005 02:47 PM

Nice! Cold blooded, but nice. Ya got me...

blahblah454 04-01-2005 03:15 PM

har har! I wasnt fooled for a second, I just clicked on the 'recent posts' list and it worked fine! And on a side note today is my brothers 18th birthday! My 20th is in exactly one week

ariekitten 04-01-2005 03:24 PM

yeah i got totally owned. i knew today was april fools, but JStrider msg'd me on aim saying "hey did you see the TFP today? :( " so i was like "i saw it yesterday and it was fine....why, what happened?" and he's like "just go see it" so i did and i didn't realize there was a scroll bar n stuff. then talking to another TFP'er on aim he was like "you're seriously freakin out over this?" and then things started dawning on me. bleh damn JS!

really good one hal! thanks for the laugh! :)

RelaX 04-01-2005 03:30 PM

Guess I'm just the grumpy guy here, but being in a country where it's been april fools all day and checking out my fav websites after coming home from going out to a bar, I'm kindof annoyed to find most of them littered with April Fools jokes. I mean... most of them aren't even usable anymore...
Then again... this hasn't been a good day...

Blah... think I should just get some sleep now...

duckznutz 04-01-2005 04:04 PM

You dont know what you have till its gone.
Lets hope a little more appreciation and some Financial contributions are the result. I was panicking for 15 minutes!

Cycler 04-01-2005 04:34 PM

Made me tilt my head but if I hadn't been able to check the board from a message follow up I would have been more concerned. Good one.....
