What magazines/periodicles do you subscribe to?
I currently subscribe to ESPN Magazine and Sports Weekly (formerly Baseball Weekly).
ESPN is bi-weekly, and Sports Weekly arrives weekly (heh), so I sometimes have trouble reading them both in their entirety, but I have fun trying. :) We also used to get Discover here, but not sure if that subscription has ended or not. What magazines do you subscribe to? Also, feel free to comment on the magazine quality, and why you like it. |
the economist - the most serious mag around. excellent coverage for business and current affairs.
national geographic - classic adventure. new scientest - for all my science needs (highly recommend for interesting articles) the bulletin - respected aussie current affairs mag gourmet traveller - yum yum yum and travel (what could be better) |
private eye , excellent satirical magazine from the uk
windows xp magazine |
Y'know since I got ADSL I don't subscribe to mags, most of em are online.
Used to be big on Economist, Loaded, Hot Rod and Mini Truckin'. (Though the last two are kinda impossible to get in the U.K.) |
Maxim and Stuff. Better articles than Playboy. Besides you can always see playboy pics on the net a few days later.
|
Penthouse, Motor Trend, SuperStreet, Slam, and Men's Health.
It was a lot more, but I didn't renew a few subscriptions a few months back. |
PC Gamer, Maximum PC, Maxim, and Stuff.
|
Speaking of Stuff magazine, you can get two years of it for free without giving a CC# here
http://www.magazine-city.net/stuff/stuff.asp |

I really appreciate that a lot, it's really cool of you to share something like that. |
Gamepro. A semi-decent video game magazine that I continue to get for the past 8 years now.
|
Maxim - I have had a subscription for 2 years but have purchased it for 5....
Stuff - currently no subscription but I have purchased about every other one for two years. Discover - subscribed IEEE Spectrum - Trade magazine free w/ IEE membership - sweet tech mag. I'd love to resubscribe to National Geographic and blender.. but just cant afford it right now... |
Fine Homebuilding
Fine Woodworking Reason Car and Driver (don't know how I get it, as I hve never paid for it.) |
I get PC Gamer, GamePro and Electronic Gaming Monthly. Somehow I only actually paid for PC Gamer but I am not going to complain about the others coming for free.
I also subscribe to Maxim, which in my opinion, is a terrible terrible magazine. I also get Reader's Digest but I just throw them away without opening them :( |
Fark is all i need.
|
not one.
|
Good Housekeeping, Oprah, and Nickelodeon for my Kids!
|
Way too many trade magazines (all free)
and like apetaster- Car & Driver, but no idea how or why. |
I used to buy Cosmo and Glamour every month but decided they weren't teaching me anything new sex-skills/relationship wise and I can get fashion online. So now I just read my friend's copy of Maxim when he gets it, and that's good enough for me :)
It's also much cheaper to go to Borders for an afternoon and read all the magazines you want versus buying new ones. I also spend a lot of time at the doctor's office--also a good place to read lots of magazines :) |
I subscribe to Stuff and Time. My subscription of Maxim just ran out, but I probably won't renew it since it's similar to stuff, and I actually like stuff better. I used to subscribe to playboy, but got bored of it. I don't subscribe to Acoustic Guitar, but i pretty much buy every issue.
|
i dont subscribe to anything at the moment. because i knew i would be moving soon, and having magazines forwarded is a hassle.
I do have a big magazine fetish though.. I regularly buy Giant Robot,Mass Appeal,Transworld Stance,Voluptuous & Xl girls,Wired,Asian Cult Cinema Monthly,While You Were Sleeping,Vapors During my undergrad i used to be all into the rap/hiphop music scene and bough XXL, the Source, Fader, XLR8R, and some other technical journals about mixers and the like.. but i got too poor to continue buying 4-5 magazines a week. |

I used to subscribe to quite a few but for a lot of reasons I let the subscriptions go. They included Mother Jones, Cemetary Dance, Writers Digest, Utne Reader, HorrorShow, The Realist, and NewsWeek.

New Scientist
Guardian Weekly |
Popular Science, Mens Health
Oh and American Iron. It doesn't cover Norton motorcycles but it is informative and it was a gift. |
I really enjoy Men's Health simply because of all the good articles on working out, diets, clothes, and of coarse sex!
|
Discover (monthly) and Science News (weekly)

if i did not live where i do, i'd get the Playboy SEs. lingerie is just wow |
Fine Homebuilding
Canadian Home Workshop Bicycling Macleans |
Lets see..
National Geographic - the best photography, inserts, writing. Very happy when it comes. Sports Illustrated - i used to suscribe to ESPN the mag and dropped it for SI. SI has more indepth articles and less space devoted to trying to be funny (idiot top-ten lists, etc.) The girlfriend on the other hand... is a magazine nut. Just crazy, Cosmo, InStyle, US, - if its trashy and involves other peoples lives (celebs gauking) she buys it or suscribes to it. Ton of money down the crapper. BUT, its not really my businees, though I make fun of her. She really enjoys reading them, and goes through them cover to cover. |
National Geographic and Car & Driver.
A friend gave me a Playboy subscription, but I wouldn't pay for it. |

I don't know why I get it. |
I'm subscribed to quite a few different magazines. I take them to work when I'm done reading them and let others take 'em home and enjoy them.
Currently.. Discovery, Scientific American, Maxim, Playboy, Time, National Geographic, Snowboarder, Cycle World, Motorcyclist, and a few others. I started taking them to work to give them to people immediately after reading them after cleaning out about 300 lbs of mags last year that I accumulated over the previous several years. |
Wizard Magazine (comics)
Gamepro (multiplatform gaming) Popular mechanics (duh) and until it had its final issue recently, I subscribed to star trek magazine, though you never heard that |

I Only get Cinescape. I get everything else at the stores. I actually just read the whole thing at the store so no reason to buy it :)
|
Only one....
"Wooden Boat" http://www.woodenboat.com/ But I'm gonna let it expire and just buy each issue, because the discount is so small for subscription that it will be about the same or less money (depending on current exchange rates) for me here in Canada. |
Newsweek

Quote:
|
We had quite a large list at one point ranging from Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Golf Digest, Readers Digest, PC World, PC Magazine, Road & Track, Car and Driver, Better Business, Maxim...and I'm sure countless others I can't remember...
Whenever someone travels in the family, we usually don't make enough frequent flyer miles to account to anything, so we just waste them on free magazine subscriptions instead! |
