Today I learned something that I took for granted. I ask that if you respond to this thread you add what you learned and how you came to learn it.

I was surfing about the news items and I came across a piece on a 22 lb lobster...

I didn't realize that NM and AZ were admitted into the union as late as 1912, so I looked up when Hawaii was admitted to the US, which it became a state in 1959.

What I learned today:

Hawaii was NOT a state when Pearl Harbor was bombed Dec 7, 1941.

What I learned today:

a stack is a LIFO data structure.

I guess that's what I learned today also. I always thought it was a state back then.

I learned a new crime classification today: gross unlawful power conduction. (Approximate translation from swedish.) Basically, there was this guy who didn't pay his power bill so he drilled a hole to the next apartment and jacked into their power. Classic stuff. I knew it was illegal of course, but I didn't know it had a name of its own!
I didn't know about Hawaii either, so that's another thing I learned today.

I learned people don't pay attention in US history class. :D

I learned I could salivate over something with the name of Bubba. ;)

I learned some new things about "M Theory" - cosmological extension of String Theory - that give us some possible views of the pre-big-bang universe (ours at least - it's a multiverse theory). I learned this new stuff by watching "Parallel Universes" on the Science Channel.

i learned that even though you want to wash your car, if its too cold outside just say F*ck it.
i also learned its better to change your oil inside the garage instead of outside when its cold outside...

I learned what the phrase 'once in a blue moon' actually means, i don't know why it's a blue moon. But it comes from if two full moons happen within one calender month. Which only ever happens once in a blue moon or rarely anyway.

Hope some of that made sense. More learning to follow, hopefully.

I learned that I won't need an F-1 student visa to attend school in the US because I am a Canadian citizen, now just to raise the 38K for the first year.

I learned that Fox Network won the February sweeps and the Fox news was the only news netowrk to see a ratings increase.

I learned that it's hard to get out of bed in the morning after playing 3 late (10:00+ PM) hockey games in 4 nights. Ugh...

I learned that the people on this board are the best....wait no....I already knew that, it was just reinforced

I learned that the computer I got from a guy work will not accomodate an ethernet card

I learned that Tegral metal have a C33 single skin sheet with a 1m cover, also comes in metallic silver.
Also when a building is tophated it is better to make the drip flash to fix to the rails, instead of the tophats

I learned that even if I guess on a math test, I can still be one of two people in the class to get a 100%.

The sun is the best alarm clock.

As much as I hate feeling it on my face when I wake up in the morning there is something very romantic about it the first time you let it happen in a long time. I used to have thick black plastic covering the window in my room. No natural light what so ever. Yesterday the window was replaced and minyn insisted that I don't replace the black plasitc and let the sun wake me up. I did. I've been awake too long.

I learned that no matter how much I take care of my car... it will find little ways to screw with me.. and they might be little but theyre damn expensive.

I learned today that sometimes you don't know yourself as well as you think you do. I spent 1 1/2 years as a single woman so that I could learn who I am and what I like/dislike about myself, etc. It was life-changing.

My original intentions were to be able to have a better, deeper, more rewarding relationship with my next boyfriend. You know, good intentions pave the road to Hell. Everytime.

The relationship I got in after my 1 1/2 year "sabbatical" was one I wouldn't normally bother with - he's lazy, doesn't have a sex drive - with me or anyone else, irresponsible and disrespectful. He doesn't know how to, nor does he like to, communicate. It's just over 18 months in length and it continually fails to improve.

Today I learned that I need to get away and become stronger with and without a significant other. I must learn to remain individual within relationships...I don't want to "inherit" any bad habits.

If you can be independant and not need to have a SO, It makes you that much stronger as an individual. :)

I use to always think that i needed a girlfriend, Then i said to myself if i need a girlfriend to feel complete, Then i couldn't be happy in or out of a relationship. I wanna be 100% independant and only rely on myself. I don't want to ever have to rely on anybody for anything..It makes life alittle bit harder in general, And i'm still working on it. Once i accomplish that, Then having a relationship will be something i will do when it interests me.

That's not something i learned today, But it is something that i have learned about myself.

I learned not to take sleeping pills and laxatives in the same night.

That's not a good mix.

I learned that I work with some really incompetent people.

I learned that I am not as unknowledgeable about things as I thought I was and that even the most hardened and stoic of people can and do give encouragement and compliments. Things aren't always as they seem.
I also learned that I can use Photoshop to upload my photos in the format I desire instead of allowing the computer to do it and totally fuck up my work.

Yesterday I learned that old people are still very, very racist and not afraid to show it.

Today, I learned that I had my alarm clock set for 10:30pm instead of 10:30am. That's about all I'm gonna learn today since I'm not going to be going to class now.

I learnt (again), that I should think before I speak and that I'm useless with secrets...

I learned today that I impress people without even being aware of it.

I learned that .NET WebServices tend to use the doc/literal format for their WSDLs.

I learned today that when someone has such joy in their life, they also have sorrow. I think I didn't learn this just now but was reminded of it. Perhaps this is the muse I've been looking for (no inspiration for the past week)...*wanders to TiltedLiterature*

After years and years of doing my own taxes, I learned:

Pay a real professional to do it. I got back over three times what I had figured I was going to get, and it was all legit and above board.

Talk about getting good news, I'm never doing my own taxes again. Half the stuff she did I had never even heard of.

I went the same route this year.. it cost me alot... but.. what he got me in return completly made it worth it..

I got lucky, it didn't cost me a cent.

My wife went to work for a tax firm. :thumbsup:

I learned that you can grow out of bands that you thought you wouldn't able to keep up with when you joined. Today I had a rehearsal which just ended up frustrating me. Everyone was slowing down in the band and just wouldn't listen to the leader or my banging away at the piano, slightly ahead of the beat :confused:

A year ago I never thought I'd be up to their level.

i learned that although mice are tiny, they can shit heaps and in every single cupboard of the kitchen before the mousetrap stops them!!

Today I learned a new word...one I found quite interesting and

Today I learned how to use Minitab ver. 14 to run a sampling distribution for my prob stat class. Also I learned a new way to figure out the standard deviation of the mean through Minitab. All in all a productive class.

I learned I was wrong in thinking hair and nails carry on growing after death.

It seems that it just looks that way because your skin shrinks
