To be honest with you all, I can't afford to be supporting the brunt of the TFP anymore. The site has grown to the point where the users SHOULD be able to support it with donations every month. You'd think with our membership, a small percentage of generous people could keep it running with no problems. Well, here are the figures:

This month's hosting bill: $443
This month's donation total: $186 (Minus roughly 3%, due to paypal fees)

I'm in a new situation now where I don't have quite the financial freedom that I once had, so I need your help. Please donate and help the site out.

Right now, I can only accept paypal. Please contact me for the paypal information.

Sorry Halx, I didn't know about the 3% paypal fee. Next donation will be by check. That is if you accept that form of payment.

I would like to send a donation in the form of a money order as well. I don't use paypal any longer, let us know if a money order is fine.

Actually yes it does feel good to be a part of this site..But it feels even better that i had some room on my credit card to give back to the site and help Halx pay the bill that we all help produce.

And as for the Donor tag..I don't really care when i get it..was just messin around about wanting it now. But seeing as it's my first time donating..Maybe anyone who has noticed that i and anyone else in this thread who is donating for the first time or others will encourage others to throw whatever amount they can to Halx to help out.

Although I'm sure that's one of the purposes of a Donor tag.

How long will it be before check pay is an option? I'd like to make my quarterly donation but I'm just not very comfortable with PayPal.

The only reason that I’m yet to contribute to this place financially is because, being a student and in debt, I’m struggling myself. When I find myself in a better position, I will most certainly contribute but until then my apologies, but I can really only be a leech.

I'm pretty pissed to see this post because I requested the paypal info over a week ago in a PM to Halx and no response yet. I'm quite willing to help out when I can, but it's shitty to have to wait to do someone a favor.

Just like my first donation a few month's ago, I can't afford much, but will send what I can to support the TFP! Hubby and I are in the "lower income" bracket and can still scrape together enough to send to Halx, because we both love the TFP. Trust me, it's not much because we sent a little bit to the Tsunami Relief effort not too long ago.

Please guys, if you like or love this site, then cough up some dough to support it. If all you can afford is 5 bucks, I'm guessing that Halx isin't going to scoff at your donation.

PayPal is not a bank and not regulated by any agencies--that being said, they can do what they want and there is no recourse whatsoever for their actions.

I lost several hundred dollars due to having information "similar" to someone that committed fraud. Nothing I can do about it, no one to complain to....the money is lost.

I have offered to donate via other means, but I cannot and will not use PayPal.

I would love to donate and have offered to do so several times, limiting me to PayPal, means no donation from me.

I second KMA-628 about Paypal.

I'd be happy to donate to a PO box, though.

I've donated previously when there were options other than paypal, and will donate again once a better option becomes available again.

Paypal or no Paypal, you would figure, everyone who cares about having this site up and running would take the chance and make the donation. I will be, even if I can only send a few dollars, it's going to be something and it will be through Paypal, regardless of whether I like them or not.

You have a choice: be childish and not support TFP or be an adult and do what you can. I am choosing to be an adult...I grew up a long time ago.

You seem to have an ever increasing habit of attacking people when you don't know all of the facts.

I will repeat, in case I wasn't clear.

I would like to donate and I have donated in the past (not through PayPal).

Not only did I lose a lot of money to PayPal "limiting" my account, any money that I would try and push through PayPal would never get to its intended destonation.

All because my info is similar to someone else's. Am I guilty? Nope. Is there anything I can do about it? Nope. PayPal is not regulated by ANYBODY. They can do whatever they please and there is nothing you can do about it.

Why you chose this issue as reason to attack people is beyond me. But it does seem to be the way you operate.

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to get snippy about DONATIONS. I mean come on people....this sounds like the freakin politics board. Give if you want....dont if you dont.....there is nothing else to it.

I was merely saying that I grew up a long time ago and that not liking a site is no reason to not support something you believe in and like. Chill out, you're really reading into something that's not even there.

Yeah, you were perfectly clear, hence why I didn't type a post in reply to you attacking anything you said, you have your reasons; I was merely pointing out to anyone else that comes along and reads any of "we're not donating tfp because we don't like paypal" that they shouldn't jump on the bandwagon for the wrong reasons. In my experience, I've never had any issues with Paypal, however, that doesn't mean that other people have been so lucky...I'm VERY aware of this.
As an FYI, Paypal has gone through a lot of changes since they're lawsuit and just because they were once not regulated doesn't mean they aren't regulated now. They recently have changed their policies and practices because of a lawsuit. I don't know if you are aware of this or not. Please, don't jump my shit further for this, as I will state this very clearly: I'm not attacking you or calling you a liar.

As I see it, apparently, you like to go on one recent occurance (i.e. the "men are better cops than women" thread) and brand a person for life off of that. From your post, I've gotten the feeling that you are looking for a fight. In my opinion, if anyone is attacking anyone, it's you attacking me because I didn't specify anyone's name and I merely pointed out a fact as a means of an adversion so that a whole bunch of "newbies" (as I've seen this happen before on other sites) wouldn't say "yeah, fuck Paypal, sorry can't donate".
Reading your post makes me want to say "Good grief, guy, take a nap, will you?" Do you know how it feels to be that exasperated? I wasn't attacking anyone. Could you bother to ask me to clarify? Or even PM me and tell me to edit my post as it may seem aggressive? Why didn't you do this?
When I bother to type your name on a post and am obviously attacking you, then you can respond with "Why is this a problem with you?". Until then, please, back off.

Amnesia - Its nothing to do with who has and has not grown up. I will admit i have yet to donate but when it comes down to it, i would love to and will in the coming months be able to do so with finally getting a job. I am a poor college student like a lot of people here are, and yes, $5 or $10 does make a difference if whether or not we eat or make rent. When it comes down to it, threatening is only going to piss off (and has) people. Encourage, its the way to go. Proof of justification is helpful to, but Hal's been on top of that.

In fear that this reply to you will come across as aggressive or attacking, I will do my best to convey my meaning the best and nicest way possible.
Originally, I posted a reply (indirectly, to no one in particular) in reference to a few people on this thread to their statements of not donating due to not liking Paypal. I feel, through experience, that sometimes when one person says they're unable or unwilling to do something that benefits someone or something, others tend to jump on the bandwagon...the end result: the someone or something, that would have been benefitted, suffers. I was merely stating this as a means to deter anyone immature enough to follow this path, however, it seems to have been misconstrued. My original reply I posted was then addressed by KMA-628 (see above) to which he expressed that I was attacking others (I got the impression that he took it personal, to which it was not) as I stated and replied to in the post just above yours.

I never stated that - I said that I would be donating in the near future. Perhaps you read someone else's post and thought it was me? I'm not sure. :)

Hal - have you thought about looking into a new host? Another forum I know of has a similar size, and probably greater xfer than TFP because of video's, and his previous host was giving him the smackdown. He changed over to http://www.carpathiahost.com , and now pays only about 60 bucks a month for BETTER service! I think almost 500 for hosting is pretty steep, but I don't know what kind of #'s your pushing. anyway, something to think about...

I seriously wish I could donate. I know the money would be well spent. Unfortunately, I am a freelance Web developer in the same boat as Halx is in. I literally don't know where my next paycheck is coming from. The summer months always suck business-wise. I'll be getting a fast food job soon to scrape by through the summer. If the board manages to stay afloat until autumn, I may be in a better position to help out at that time.

Halx, I wish you the very best of luck in finding a job. I will contact you immediately on the off chance that I get more work than I can handle or if someone pitches me a job I simply don't have the skills for. Based on the past two summers it doesn't seem likely that will happen, so don't let me get your hopes up.
