Mountain View, CA (AP) -- Google has stirred up quite a bit of anger among the black community on this day of celebration and remembrance. Each holiday Google changes its standard "Google" icon to a different, festive logo sporting some of that holiday's traditional images. However, Google may have gone a little too far on this Martin Luther King day, when its logo was changed to a "Google" featuring what appears to be a noose hanging from the second 'o'.
"This is an absolute outrage", said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland. When asked if Google should face criminal charges, he added "They should hang for this". Google has a tradition of being the 'groovey' mid twenties sensation, using humor and a light-hearted atmostphere to pull in its users, making it the number one search engine available on the internet. It recieves more search queries per day than any other webpage, and has a multitude of other websites dedicated to its name, even one which pits one search term against another to see which brings up more pages. When reached for comment, Google Co-Founder and President Sergey Brin offered a press release stating "We stand by our decision to post the logo. In these days of political correctness, these morons need to learn to just take a joke." In contrast to these harsh words, Google did take down the logo and any references to it early in the day, most likely in fear of the African-American lash back. |
I'm calling bullshit on this article, and on the Google logo. Until I see a source to this, I'm claiming pure bullshit.
At first blush, this is clearly a hoax.
Agreed on hoax, however, if it's true, it's kinda harsh, but if the guy was white, nobody would care anyway
Hee.. yeah... just... no. Hoax.
Good photoshop. Nothing more.
I would prefer to see a link to an article than to a random ImageShack page. I also call bullshit.

Why would he say this? To what means? I am going to join the others in saying that I think this is a hoax. |
[Edit...gotta be nice] It's a hoax.
Mediocre hoax.
Too obvious. If you want a great hoax that has you wondering if it is real or not: http://www.landoverbaptist.org/ |

Now, the google story is hogwash. Hogwash, I say. |
poppycock!
Yea, its prolly a hoax i searched google and couldnt find anything. But i did notice that they didnt have a special doodle for the occasion like he said, which is wierd cuz they usually have one for every holiday. Thats what i thought this thread was about when i read the first couple of lines, how the african american community was angry for not being recognized or something.
Why are we still talking about this? The article was posted without a link to the source, and the orginal poster gave no comment as to his or her opinion to the article in questions. Furthermore, it's clearly a hoax as everyone in this thread has already pointed out.
End of story, move along, nothing to see here, these are not the droids you are looking for. |
move along, nothing to see here, these are not the droids we are looking for.
Haha who comes up with hoaxes like this?
How silly....and will probably be an urban legend a year from now.
We were actually expected to believe this? Especially in regards to something as large and well-known as Google? C'mon.
I'm gullible as hell and even I didn't believe it.
Awww come on guys CleanX just wanted to pull a fast one on a few people so he could laugh at them later.
I totally believed it, CleanX. You got me. feel better? |
His original post also states the noose was hanging from the second 'o'. In the pic, it's hanging from the 'g'.
