These online quizzes are getting ridiculous!
 

Someone should do a study on how accurate/useful online quizzes are. I just did a career type quiz on msn.com and I thought it was complete bullshit. I think they're all bullshit. What do you people think about online quizzes?

I've never done one, as I don't believe a thing they say.

They are a load of crap, I agree. I took an online quiz for the Army and it said my best match was as a musician in the Army band. In the quiz I'd noted that I don't play any instrument, and that was the only question related to music.

The "quizes" are made up by someone with nothing to do and a strange anime fetish half of the time. I just think that they get really annoying after a while.

I agree, even the 'serious' ones have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Saying that a couple of years ago we did a careers survey at school. We filled in a questionaire and a computer would send us results of what would be best suited. Some of the suggestions were terrible. The questions asked can't find out enough about the individual, they can't, it takes more than information so know someone. And this survey was lengthy and in depth I doubt an internet version would be any better.

I'd say the 'fun' ones were better, at least they tell you something which might make you smile instead of something thats of no use to you whatsoever!

Yeah. Right on. They're just time wasting dribble that you can get a laugh out of. I never thought they were to be taken seriously.

Even the fun ones are starting to drive me nuts. Mainly because all my blog friends have started having all their entries be their quiz results. That's not interesting, gimme some real stuff to read. :p

There's a cool page called LiveJournal Images (sometimes NSFW), which grabs the most recent 30 or so images posted to LiveJournal blogs. It is kind of sad how many of those images are quiz results.

Some of them are pretty useless, but others I've found helpful.

Examples:

MSN had a "how's your relationship" quiz that was a complete and utter waste of time. It had questions like "your sweetie wants to go to the mountains for vacation, but you'd rather spend some time shopping in the city. Do you..." and then it had stupid answers that had more to do with the situation than with how you deal with it. It wasn't just that ratbastid wouldn't do x y or z as the quiz suggested in the questions, it was that the questions were phrased in such a way as to be completely irrelevant to a real relationship.

However, I find that some of selectsmart.com's quizzes are pretty useful. It was because of their pet selector that we looked for a chow mix and found our perfect pooch, and their religion selector has pointed me in a number of interesting directions learning about religious and philosophical beliefs that seem to mesh pretty well for me.

I think you have to consider the source and take everything with at least a grain or two of salt.

What scares me more is that every 10 min or so the goatse pic shows up :hmm:

Just don't take them serious.

A questionnaire is only as good as its source is credible. Unless you are looking for entertainment, the quizzes are best forgotten.

Exactly. Most online quizzes won't even reveal how the questions came about, let alone go anywhere useful with the results. I don't put any faith in them.

I just do them cause there is nothing else to do sometimes. I get that bored that I do them. I dont take any note of them though. That would be stupid. But I agree, whoever makes them up, obviously dont have anything better to do with there lives. It is strange how some people have that much time up their sleeves to make up the quizzes in the first place. hehee

I read about a psychology study to do with this. All the participants were given a personality test, and then all were presented with an identical set of results. They all rated the results as 'accurate'. Same principal as horoscopes.

When I take the fun quizes, I always end up as the most evil option. I'm not even trying, I think.
