The Cannibalism Thread

Would you? Could you?

Put yourself, hypothetically, in one of those life or death situations (ie. the Donner Party, or those soccer (?) players whose plane crashed in the Andes Mts) and consider what you would do if faced with the choice between starving to death or cannibalism.

Part 1.

Do you think you could do it?

Would you do it? Or would you refuse, on principle?

Part 2.

Ok, you have made the decision to eat the flesh of another human being, in order to survive. Now, how would you prepare/cook it? What part(s) would you eat first?

Would you use any spices/condiments, if you had them?

What if you liked it?

Part 3.

You did it. You ate the flesh of another human being and survived your life or death ordeal. The nature of your ordeal is such that you were able to hide the fact from your rescuing party. Having returned to civilization, you are now faced with a serious decision: do you tell anyone? if so who?

You did it, you liked it. Back in civilization, do you find yourself looking at people differently, "That woman/man has nice calves. I bet they'd be tasty lightly grilled with BBQ sauce and a bottle of wine"? What kind of wine would it be?

Who would be number 1, 2 and 3 on your list of famous people to consume? I'll bet Meg Ryan would be tasty, don't you think?

feel free to discuss any or all of the above questions.

ARTelevision 05-22-2003 06:00 PM

I have no problem with cannibalism -
none at all; no personal issues; I don't comprehend the issue, really.

In any event, I accept the social taboo because it seems to mean something - a lot - to other people.

Besides that, these hypothetical situations always strike me the same way. I read them and the personal concerns don't apply to me because I don't see any problem with doing what is necessary in survival situations, etc. And I don't think twice about it.

In brief, for me, it has to do with how most other people seem to feel about this - so I try to act in socially acceptable ways.

HE would.

but me? i can't even make it past part 1 . i could never do it, for all reasons.

sixate 05-22-2003 06:27 PM

I would eat just about any kind of meat. If I had to eat a person to stay alive I'd do it no problem, but only if it was for my own survival. I just want first dibs on a pectoralis or bicep! :D So what if I'd liked it. It's not like I'd look at everyone I walk by and start to salivate over the thought of eating them. That would be fucked up.

I would try just about anything as long as I didn't know what I was shoving in my mouth.

krwlz 05-22-2003 06:39 PM

I call first dibs on the back...I am sure filet minon (sp?) would taste as good on human as on other animals...No I would not have a problem for survival purposes...And I probably would not tell anyone...

The_Dude 05-22-2003 06:40 PM

i'll just die.

not that afraid of death, and if it's a cold place, i'll just go to sleep.

onodrim 05-22-2003 07:16 PM

I really don't think that I could do it. I"d probably die of starvation first. I mean, I can't even stand the look or feel of raw chicken meat to cook it. How would I possibly handle human flesh? No thanks, I'd die first. :p

arael 05-22-2003 07:18 PM

I'll eat. I think the taboo of canabalism is ultimately for survival and safety of the human race. In these extreme situations, i don't believe these rules apply

TaLoN 05-22-2003 07:20 PM

if it bleeds you can kill it, if you can kill it then you can eat it!
Help end poverty; Eat the Poor.

clavus 05-22-2003 07:23 PM

I think veretarians would taste better than omnivores. I wouldn't want to eat someone who smokes or does steroids.

I don't know what here personal habits are, but I bet Laetitia Casta would be delicious.

Ever read the short story by Steven King - "The Surviver Type"? Its about SELF cannibalism to stave off starvation. Now there's a happy thought.

AnUnkind 05-22-2003 07:52 PM

I can't go long without somethin to munch on. I have surprised myself for the past three days, however, as all I have eaten was two sandwiches and a burger king happy meal... so maybe I can go for a day before I dig in, just a guess...
Well, our range of cooking techniques would probably be limited so I would find a big rock, heat it, and then throw some meat on that sucker to cook. If I like it then hurray for me, I might just live. I don't think there are any celebrities that I would like to eat, they are all either too skinny or muscular, and some of the fat ones look gross... eww.
Oh and I wouldn't tell a damn person about this if it actually happened....

PitViper401 05-22-2003 07:59 PM

I would eat my fellow man if it was a matter of life or death and I would cook it just like a steak and no, i would not do it again after i got back to civilization

KWSN 05-22-2003 09:18 PM

Calves and pecs... in A-1 sauce. Hell, if it's in A-1, I'll eat it. That goes for just about anything else, too.

Snoogans 05-22-2003 10:34 PM

You gotta do what you gotta do, If I have to eat to survive, I will

a few cooking tips
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...&threadid=8021

Phaenx 05-22-2003 11:08 PM

1) Yes, yes.

2) I think I'd start with the legs/arms, set up a roasting spinny thing to put the meat on (if fire is available) and eat.

3) No, journalists would be all up in my face and people would look at ME funny.

guthmund 05-22-2003 11:27 PM

I'd eat ass if you cooked it right.....

I still eat ass if you didn't cook it right, as long as it meant my survival.

And I'd tell everybody. "yeah, I ate a human ass once....it was quite tasty.....tastes like chicken.....no, seriously" then I'd lick my lips and saunter away..... :D

platypus 05-23-2003 04:52 AM

I'd do it. No problem. In a real survival situation, I think most people would, even if they can't imagine such a thing now.

So always be prepared. I carry a Swiss army knife and a little bottle of Tabasco...just in case. ;-)

As far as telling people about it? You wouldn't need to, they'd know. "So tell us, Platy. You spent 4 weeks in the wilderness alone with your dead companion. No food. Rain water to drink. AND YOU GAINED WEIGHT?!? By the way, where is your friend's body?"

Unknown Poster 05-23-2003 05:46 AM

I wouldn't hesitate. Meat is meat.

I did a paper on cannibalism in college. I found out that one tribe in Africa says that the soles of the feet is the most tender meat. Yum!

Part 1. Hell yes, I would eat anybody or anything if I needed to stay alive. No reservations.

Part 2. I don't know enough about cuts of meat to know what is what. I would probably grill everything and then start nibbling until I found what tasted best. Low temp, long cook time, and you get juicier, more tender meat. Some sort of vinegar-based sauce to keep the meat from drying out.

Part 3. I would tell no one. Once it's done, it's done. There's no need to bring it back up, and it wouldn't serve any rational purpose to do so.

I always thought Elizabeth Hurley had the most biteable ass of any movie star I've seen. Number two would have to be Britney Spears. Third place would be the bitch who crushed my heart in 11th grade 25 years ago.

Reese 05-23-2003 09:39 AM

Part 1: Yes, I believe I could if it meant survival.

Part2: Isince I'd only do it for survival, I wouldn't care what part I ate, I'd probally end up eating all of, I hear the brain has lots of protein though. I'd probally have to use whatever spices and flavors were around but some A1 sauce can really kill the taste.

Part 3: If asked I'd tell only people who wanted to know. It'd mostly be kept quiet though. I wouldn't look at humans differently and most likely try to forget anything that went on during that time.

I also wouldn't care if someone ate me. If eating my(already dead) body lets you live then I'd surely allow it.

bender 05-23-2003 09:43 AM

1) Yes no question if it was my life on the line.
2) I don't carry spices when I travel so I don't think that I would have an option there.
3) would I tell....I guess that I would have to, as after I was found there may be some 'splaning to do as to why there were chunks out of Mary.
4) as to who...I guess it would have to be anyone who wasn't moving fast enough to get away from me, but as for who...
I don't know.

Do you think you could do it? If I had no other choice, I would definetly consider it.

Now, how would you prepare/cook it? What part(s) would you eat first? Dunno, my l33t cooking skills are limited to frying pans and microwaves. I would start off with a nice meaty part like the upper legs.

do you tell anyone? if so who? I would probably tell a close friend.

Who would be number 1, 2 and 3 on your list of famous people to consume? Aria Giovanni, Christina Aguilera (she's gotten chunkier lately), Jennifer Lopez.

SecretMethod70 05-23-2003 02:59 PM

I'd eat, and I'd tell people when I got back. If it's a choice between one person dying and me surviving or both of us dying, it's a no brainer.

And the person's family and friends deserve the respect of knowing that that person contributed to my survival. Most people with sense don't find it a terrible thing when it's a life and death situation - those soccer players weren't chastised for it as far as I know.

Glory's Sun 05-23-2003 05:05 PM

I'd eat for sure. Certain rules don't apply in certain situations. This would be one of those. I don't think I'd kill a healthy person but if they started showing weakness well.. umm dinner time! :p

Would I tell someone? Sure, the story should be told. The family has a right to know what happend. Hopefully they would understand.

WhoaitsZ 05-23-2003 05:36 PM

uh
if it meant taking the life of another human, i'd commit suicide. i can't justify murder. period.

PS: remind me to never camp with Art :)

Spanky Johnson 05-23-2003 07:52 PM

Well, I wouldn't kill someone to eat them, but if they were already dead...maybe. I would have to be pretty damned desperate though.

Yeah, I read that a long time ago...pretty gruesome, from what I remember. I'll have to dig it out and re-read it.

ND_Ranger 05-23-2003 10:53 PM

No problem. I'd eat the brain first and work my way down. In a life or death situation, I need to get as much nourishment as possible. Thus I wouldn't pick which part I'd eat, I'd just start and work from there.

I have no problems telling people I thinking they would be tasty. I don't think having actaully eaten a human would change this.

MacGnG 05-23-2003 11:21 PM

i'm not saying i would but if i had to it better be deep fried! cajun spices like popeyes! cajun fried human! mmmm

lol they got good biscuits! :)

FuddMan 05-24-2003 01:17 PM

If I were ever in that type of situation, I'd probably go insane deciding whether or not I would. I can just imagine myself sitting in some dark cave staring at a body...creepy.

Now, I've seen a few references to "Survivor Type" by Stephen King. I read that a while back and really want to read it again. If anyone has a text copy, message me, please...

Fly 05-25-2003 05:54 AM

1=yup....i'd do it
2=light a fire and go to town on the ribs
3=yup.....i'd tell people

favorite celebrity food=nicole kidman

and anyone can eat me if i'm dead as long as they eat me like an oreo cookie.

raeanna74 05-25-2003 07:09 AM

I would eat the human flesh if I didn't kill them. The issue for me would be that I would not eat them unless they had already died of natural causes. At that point they are just a shell and meat is meat no matter where it comes from. I'd have red wine with it. If I had spices I would use them (oregano, garlic, peppers, etc.). Personally I would prefer to eat someone if they were really out of shape. A weightlifter would be tough meat.

Memalvada 05-25-2003 07:29 AM

I'd eat people, and I'd enjoy killing the person too :D Id probably choose the most obnoxious person in the group, and if he/she is faster than me, the I'll use my superior intelligence to catch him/her.

As long as the meat is cooked, I would eat it.

Woukld I tell anyone? Hell yeah... How many people can brag about having the same menu as Dr Lecter?

And as for celebs... I have no preference

splck 05-25-2003 04:41 PM

I'd eat a human too. I'd have to be hungry, but I'd do it for sure.
As for cooking it, I'd go for the tenderloin first, then a newyork strip or two.

impirius7 05-25-2003 07:00 PM

i'd eat someone for pleasure. the killing of them would be legally complicated, but not morally. i'd eat a human whether for survival or not.

XenuHubbard 05-26-2003 07:38 AM

My place tomorrow, people.
Bring QP-sauce, chips, beer, and a huge fuk'n axe.
I've got Pokemon trading cards to lure them out of the bushes with.

Mango 05-26-2003 01:42 PM

Sounds like ARTelevision is a bit of a sociopath.
I ate my wife last night. She was great. I think I'll eat her again soon

Kid A 05-26-2003 05:58 PM

Well this thread has degenerated into...

Anyways, I'd just like to point out that the places where cannibalism is most prevalent (the Pacific islands) are places with very few land animals, and therefore very few sources of protein.

Cannibalism, at least in a societal way, seems to either have spiritual/religous roots (eat your enemies, get their strength) or nutritional/dietary roots (need protein to survive), or some combination of the two.

Part 1 - Yes.
Part 2 - I'd try to make it as much like a normal meal as possible, so I'd prepare it like any other type of meat.
Part 3 - Yes, I'd share.

I don't think that cannibalism is anything addictive, if you do it out of necessity. Of course, there are stories of British soldiers who served in Asia during famines. In certain cities, after all stray cats and dogs were taken care of, the stories go that children were next - and you could actually walk into a butcher shop and choose the cut that you wanted. Some of these men returned home with a penchant for human flesh. Albert Fish (Google him, you won't be disappointed) claims to have his roots somewhere in there.

ROFL ROFL ROFL. Thats just hillarious!

darksparkles 05-27-2003 09:44 AM

if it was someone that was already dead, sure, i'd just make sure to cook him/her really, really well ... if everyone else was alive, i'd eat snow. or grass. or dirt. or whatever was there. i mean, so what if it'd kill me, i'd die anyway.

rubicon 05-27-2003 10:23 AM

I would do what I have to for survival. In fact, I think many people would be surprised at what they'll do to survive. The human will to live is very strong.
