Halx 11-29-2004 09:35 PM

It's Official, I'm moving to NEW YORK CITY

There comes a time in a young man's life when he's gotta just take a chance. He sees his current life going nowhere and he starts looking for answers. He identifies the aspects of his life that tie him down to the same ol' thing every day, and he seeks to change them. Then he makes a plan... a plan to persue his dreams, and even to fulfill some lingering hopes. Then... he takes action.

I've sold my car and I'm booking my flight. I'm moving to NYC.

SecretMethod70 11-29-2004 09:36 PM

awesome Hal! Good luck in the move!

Captain Canada 11-29-2004 09:37 PM

Awesome man! Good luck with the move.

onodrim 11-29-2004 09:38 PM

Good for you Halx! Good luck with everything, I hope you find everything you're looking for and more. :D

World's King 11-29-2004 09:55 PM

Nice. Now I got a place to stay out there.

denim 11-29-2004 10:01 PM

I look forward to lots of gatherings in NYC. :D

Grancey 11-29-2004 10:50 PM

I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap.......
.........
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York

--New York is fabulous. Have a blast....

Jeff 11-29-2004 11:07 PM

Damn. You gonna work with naked women in NYC, too?

Suave 11-29-2004 11:08 PM

Don't get mugged! I mean, have a pleasant trip! Actually, I'd be more worried about being molested by airport security. Okay, I'll stop now. Good on ya.

StormBerlin 11-29-2004 11:12 PM

I'm so proud :) I admire anyone who is willing to drop everything they know to persue their dreams.

Fremen 11-30-2004 12:13 AM

Good luck, Hal.
I hope everything works out well for you, fearless leader. :)

Sensei 11-30-2004 12:14 AM

Best of luck to ya, man!! I also made the move from West Coast to the Northeast but I just ended but back home. Gotta love that Pacific Ocean. Anyways, everything works out well for you.

ARTelevision 11-30-2004 01:56 AM

Best wishes, Halx!

I remember doing just that myself a couple of times.

Always a good move!

Gertie 11-30-2004 02:35 AM

You are going to love New York! It's the greatest city in the world. Everything is there. Have a blast and Good Luck!

Daoust 11-30-2004 03:25 AM

I think you should move up to Toronto. It makes New York look like Kentwood Louisianna. Plus it's way colder. And we have the CBC here...

tropple 11-30-2004 03:46 AM

Well, I am very happy for you.

Personally, I don't like NYC, but I sure hope you enjoy it! Are you a programmer by chance?

Oropher 11-30-2004 04:16 AM

Good luck in New York!

yabobo 11-30-2004 05:21 AM

Talk about hot and cold ,up and down ,in and out, stop and go etc..
What a great chance you're taking. I swear on a stack of bagels I wish I could
make the same move one more time. Best of luck I know you'll do great..

Bill O'Rights 11-30-2004 05:37 AM

Gotta say...I'm impressed. Do you have any prospects lined up, or are you just going to wing it? In either case...good luck, man.

matteo101 11-30-2004 06:09 AM

Good luck halx. Pursuing ones dreams, and taking a risk is what life is all about.

ngdawg 11-30-2004 06:14 AM

Your opportunities in New York are only limited by your fears. Being so fearless as to just pick up and come to the east, I'm sure you'll do really well. Besides, I'm 35 minutes away, so if you slack off, I'll kick your ass!!(Buddah will hold you while I do!)
You only need 2 things-a warm coat and to learn to say 'fuhgeddaboudit'. Good luck and see ya for lunch!!

zenmaster10665 11-30-2004 06:18 AM

nice, wow...me and my girl are hoping to move there next year sometime....please let us know how it all goes!

Ustwo 11-30-2004 06:20 AM

Well going to the second best city in the US is pretty good.

Glory's Sun 11-30-2004 06:26 AM

Good luck with the move! It takes alot to move to a new area..even if you think it completely through and analyze everything it's still a big step. I'm sure you'll make the best of it though. If times get tough there are plenty of people who have your back!

Blackthorn 11-30-2004 06:32 AM

Holy crowded streets, subways and parking lots! Niiiiice....welcome to Monday Night Football at 9:00pm vs. 6:00pm and everything else happening three hours later than you are used to now...:D

absorbentishe 11-30-2004 06:46 AM

Awesome! I bet all the soul searching you did lead you in this direction. Hope all goes well with the move.

Wish I had the balls to just up and move.

Supple Cow 11-30-2004 06:58 AM

Good for you! When can we expect your arrival?

tecoyah 11-30-2004 07:33 AM

Its about freakin' time....Truly, you my friend are in for a new life. Figured the Capital of the new Empire would be east coast, just makes more sense.

maleficent 11-30-2004 07:39 AM

Way to go... New York can't wait for you to arrive...

Takes guts to pack up your life and move across the country... Guts like that will make you a success at whatever you choose to do...

Travel light and travel safe...

powerclown 11-30-2004 07:46 AM

They say if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere...
You only live once. Good Luck.
(Damn...you sold that awesome car!! )

Nefir 11-30-2004 08:05 AM

Well, that is good news, if I've ever heard any! Way to go, Halx!

Looking forward to many more future TFP meets here :D

fhqwhgads 11-30-2004 08:19 AM

Mooooovin' on up, to the Eastside
to a deluxe apartment, in the sky-y-y...

Anytime you wanna take me up on that beer and the kick in the junk, you just let me know.

laconic1 11-30-2004 08:27 AM

Congratulations. Someday I hope to develop the courage to do something so significant.

quadro2000 11-30-2004 08:32 AM

NYC is now officially TFP Central. Take that, uh, everybody else!

Zeraph 11-30-2004 08:53 AM

The only thing I know about NYC is that they have about 10 times everything that everyone else has and then some. Which can be good or bad, so good luck!

KinkyKiwi 11-30-2004 09:35 AM

:) yay halx :) good luck with the move and hope you love NYC as much as I do (and everyone else who lives here :))

Halx 11-30-2004 10:57 AM

I begin my first occupational tour of New York on December 7th. BuDDaH and I will be searching for an apartment. It will be named 'TFP HQ' or.. 'The Snake Pit' - haven't decided. From there, we will fly to California, rent a big truck, throw all my stuff into it, then take a road trip across the country. Nifty huh?

Everyone, keep your eyes open for the new gonzo porn website, "The Snake Pit", featuring Whitesnake and... hmm, the Black Adder? Either way, I'm scared...

Mondak 11-30-2004 11:29 AM

Right on man! Congrats on that! I did the opposite (Jersey to San Diego) 8 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I grew a lot and really learned how things work.

Cool that you don't need a car in NYC - although it had to hurt to sell your sweet ride. I am sure you will find lots of opportunity as long as you keep your eyes open and your ass off the couch.

Let me know if you will be here for the unofficial sendoff in OC on what looks like the 18th.

That is a pretty ballsy move. I've never been to New York myself, but I have been on a few road trips across country. Nothing like getting behind the wheel and taking a long ass road trip.

I have to say, I'm more than a little jealous. :)

Good luck with the move. Sounds like you've got a couple of exciting months up ahead.

Hash_Browns 11-30-2004 12:01 PM

Congrats Halx! I hope everything works out for everyone! I love road trips and driving big trucks, just make sure the back is closed up properly ;) Oh and take a camera, I'm willing to bet if you make a sign you'll get some free boobie shots ;) haha!! Good luck!

eagle1 11-30-2004 01:09 PM

To quote a song.....

"Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel."

Good Luck! It's something I wished I was able to do before I had a family.

Cynthetiq 11-30-2004 01:18 PM

well damn.. I go away for a week and things change ;)

congrats on the sale and good luck on the move.

MacGuyver 11-30-2004 01:40 PM

Whatever you do....

Get another TL!!

oh yeah... good luck too

heyal256 11-30-2004 07:10 PM

Good luck with the apartent hunting. guess this means that I need to make it out to a few more NYC get togethers. :)

shortynickel 11-30-2004 08:51 PM

Good Luck sir...i am curious do you have a place to stay already and what do you plan on doing there?

back in 90 i rode in the back of a 85 isuzu pup from Vegas to SC....we took I40 the whole way across...with many pitstops along the way...one at Grand Canyon(if ya have a moment, stop there), along with various other stops.

Just remember:

1. When you feel the need to look up at a building, stand the hell out of the way, not in the middle of the sidewalk.
2. If you need to answer your cellphone, don't stop walking in the middle of the sidewalk to do so. Keep moving.
3. When approaching a subway turnstile, have your metrocard ready. Don't get there and then start looking for it.
4. When walking on the sidewalk, if you need to stop, move to the curb or to the building. Don't stop in the middle of the sidewalk.

Failure to obey any of the above edicts may result in your obtaining footprints on your back ;-)

What an adventure!

Ella 12-01-2004 03:51 AM

Gotta say I'm terribly envious. Never been there (or the US at all, actually...maybe next year) but I hear it's very cool. I made the move to a pretty big city from a smaller one last week and so far, aside from the noise, heat, lack of privacy and the opportunity to spend too much money, it's working out just fine!

Charlatan 12-01-2004 04:57 AM

Wow big move! Congratulations... My wife and I are in the early stages of planing to move somewhere else... don't know where it will be but when we decide, we are gone.

I am envious...

ElwoodBlues 12-01-2004 03:21 PM

Good luck over here on the east coast. Be prepared for irrational weather patterns, angry drivers, and much much more.

On the bright side, if you ever go to rhode island you might get to hit some "sexy parties"

*cues wierd sexy party music*

trib767 12-01-2004 03:32 PM

There are two good things about New York. The International departure gates at JFK and the international departure gates at Newark !!

Yes I spend five years in the city that never sleeps. Sorry, but wasn't for me. Soo glad to be back in London.

However hope you enjoy it. Panna II on 1st Avenue is a mean curry house :)

canuckguy 12-01-2004 03:54 PM

good luck! road trips are awesome! not to mention a new life in a new city.

maestroxl 12-01-2004 04:06 PM

My favorite city. Good luck. (And I'm envious.)

troit 12-01-2004 04:09 PM

As someone who recently moved to New York City I have got to say you are in for the time of your life... Nonstop action! It took me a couple of months to find my niche here but I don't regret the move for a minute. You'll be just fine. Suprisingly enough, the people here are a lot more friendly that I thought they would be.

PM me when you get in town and get settled so we can take advantage of my expense account and grab a bite to eat somewhere. ;)

dylanmarsh 12-01-2004 05:00 PM

Two things:

1) Congrats. I think this will be one of the best things you will ever do.

2) I'll have to seriously hurt you if you become a Yankee fan. Stay true to Dodger Blue and don't become another fair weather baseball fan statistic.

combatmedicjen 12-01-2004 05:46 PM

Congrats Halx! I've been to NYC a few times and it was a blast! It's quite gutsy of you to just pick up and move like that. Good luck with everything!!

aurigus 12-01-2004 05:48 PM

Congrats and good luck Halx! Sounds like the adventure of a lifetime.

What do you take me for? Lakers and Dodgers forever!

greytone 12-01-2004 06:14 PM

It is good to move across country at least once in your life. I wish you all the luck in the world, but how you do in a place depends more on you than the place. With your approach to life you will be successful no matter where you end up.

RallyEX 12-01-2004 06:17 PM

Congrats and good luck, Halx! My wife and I just returned from vacation in NYC... You get used to it very quickly if you've ever lived/spent much time in a major city.

The people there are much nicer than I expected, and the city is beautiful in its own rite.

If I were single and 18 again, I would probably do the same as you... but I chose a different direction, and I'm happy with where it landed me.

I hope you find what you are looking for in NYC, and good luck.

Sorry, Halx, but I've just seen too many good people join the evil empire in the Bronx. If you should go to the Bronx for a ballgame and God's team, the Red Sox, is playing, make sure you throw a few four letter words at Jeter for me.

Best of luck on the move!

spectre 12-01-2004 09:14 PM

Very cool. Good luck with the move.

smooth 12-06-2004 07:21 AM

...but, isn't it like fucking cold or something over there?

December? damn, dude, good luck but I've got to jump back in bed I'm so cold just thinking about it.

watch out for shit that falls out of the sky sometimes, too. called rayne or something. like big drops of...water? fuckin weird, dunno, never really seen it.

/smooth *shivers* and holds his hot californian wife closer

ScottKuma 12-06-2004 07:43 AM

Good Luck, Halx!

NYC is a helluva city.... Hope you have lots of cash for your apartment!

ubertuber 12-06-2004 09:53 AM

That's sweet news! Good luck with the apartment search and welcome to NY!!!

Cynthetiq 12-06-2004 02:26 PM

good man.

i come to cali for a month, and you're leaving tomorroww :(. but i suppose getting to watch your tv will be a nice consolation!

i've seen you grow up into the guy you are today. i'm very impressed with your convictions (i.e. cojones) about this move, and life in general. i wish you the best of luck on your venture out there.

see ya at dinner!

Mephisto2 12-06-2004 10:02 PM

Shit, I only saw this thread now.

NYC is my number one top dream location. I would love to see the Met, Tiffanys, Central Park... the whole shooting caboodle.

I often travel to SF on business but I'm pushing for a trip to the Big Apple sometime next year.

I absolutely DEMAND the right to take you and Buddah out and get falling down drunk. Nothing like drinking with an Irishman after all!

Mr Mephisto

hehhe.. Yeah. One of the writers here was bound and determined to live in Manhattan. He does, but holy cow. It's costing him a fortune for a small place.

I don't understand why manhattan is so desirable. It's awfully expensive.
