What is your anti-drug?

So, the thread on the reasons not to smoke pot got me thinking. I know it's a tad bit cheesy but I think that there could be some really interesting responses. If you don't do drugs or if you've quit doing drugs, what is your anti-drug? Let's limit it to three choices or less.

My first anti-drug is getting through college. I don't need any distractions in life right now, especially since I'm about to start college. I feel like if I were to start doing drugs just so I could "experiment", I could veer off into endless nights of doing nothing but smoking pot.

The second is my girlfriend. I know that she makes me happier than any drug ever will.

My final anti-drug is the fact that I am getting through life with a clear, undistorted vision. I love the fact that I am able to enjoy life for what it's worth without having to resort to synthetic means of pleasure.

So, what is your anti-drug?

tspikes51 11-14-2004 08:05 PM

My music career. Contrary to what people think, in order to maximize success in this field, drugs are a bad way to go.

Getting through college.

My friends and my family.

Da Munk 11-14-2004 08:08 PM

My brain. I like it the way it is and don't want to mess it up.

sadistikdreams 11-14-2004 08:14 PM

A career.

(I REALLY HATE the 10 word limit. Abolish it, please?)

phredgreen 11-14-2004 08:17 PM

poverty is my anti-drug... i simply can't afford a habit. :D

Irishsean 11-14-2004 08:24 PM

My nephew...

I used to smoke weed or crystal all the time, until one day my brother showed up while I was high, smacked me around a bit, and showed me an ultrasound picture. He told me if I ever did anything again I'd never see my nephew. I haven't touched it since.

Suave 11-14-2004 09:12 PM

My anti-drug is other drugs. :D

Well, the thing that keeps me from hard drugs is love of a clear mind. That's also why I don't drink or smoke nearly as often as most people I know. I never really needed anything to BE my anti-drug though, I was just open to some and not to others, and I don't do them very much because I don't feel like it most of the time.

omega2K4 11-14-2004 09:14 PM

I have no anti-drug.

skibum 11-14-2004 09:20 PM

Never felt a need to do it. Though a lot of people who meet me think I do some sort of drug because I am so laid back.

KungFuGuy 11-14-2004 09:29 PM

i like to drink alcohol, but dislike pot and all other drugs very much.

as far as pot goes, it's to keep my lungs healthy so i can participate in the sports i love. same for cig's.

then its that i really don't want to mess my brain up. (booze does enough of that alrdy)

its tough not smoking pot sometimes when in seems everyone else loves to do it and you're going to an art school. can't help but wonder what i'm missing out on sometimes.

JustDisGuy 11-14-2004 09:31 PM

My brother should be the poster-boy for anti-drug use. Mentioned he snapped in the other thread - the diagnosis was schizophrenia, though for some reason the psychiatrist is adamant that it wasn't drug induced. He presented like a textbook case of a PCP user, so we figure he got laced weed - mainly because we're pretty sure the only drug he was using was weed, but we could be wrong.

Anyway, without him the only anti-drug I'd have is a crystal-clear awareness of what is going on in the world around me, and a complete and absolute sense of self-control. Feels better than any drug-induced haze could...

Zeraph 11-14-2004 09:36 PM

Spite of course.

pimpercrobian 11-14-2004 10:44 PM

Sleeping
Eating

boredom 11-14-2004 10:58 PM

Sleeping, and heavy metal, ohh and grades so somehow my family doesnt get shammed, but i dont really care why they think, im a horrible son. Oh yeah bieng a horrible son is my anti-drug.

Manic_Skafe 11-14-2004 11:53 PM

Thinking for myself.

I smoke marijuana on occasion, consume alcohol, eat red meat, and enjoy pornography - I just don't feel the need to define myself or my actions by anyone else's standards or their silly little definitions.

Tophat665 11-15-2004 04:44 AM

Marijuana is my anti drug. Seriously. At this point in my life, knowing the effect it has on me, it is its own best excuse to stay away (usually).

Eight 11-15-2004 04:46 AM

Getting arsted and banned from clubs.

My brain.

My body.

Lockjaw 11-15-2004 05:16 AM

My life in general.

I enjoy being lucid and aware at all times.

My future kids.
How can I help steer them away from harmful things if I've done the very same things in the past? Yeah junior...don't smoke weed and drink even though your old man did all that shit at your age and got lucky he didn't end up a wasted wreck of a man. Hopefully you'll be lucky too.

My fucked up relatives.
Just every last single person in my family I classify as a failure as a human being all are heavily into drugs and alcohol. If you see this enough you don't want to emulate it.

Potential mates. The kind of women I tend to be attracted to aren't much into the drug abusers.

Many of my loves in life don't fit well with being stoned or high. I like driving and cars. The two don't mix well even though too many people like to do that crap.

My future political career. I MIGHT get into politics at some point in the future and as few skeletons in the closet as possible the better. I find it amazing that so many folks aren't able to honestly say they haven't had a problem with alcohol or done drugs.

So I fully intend that when some schmuck sticks a mic in my face and asks me...have you ever done any drugs in the past I can look in the camera smile and say..."Why no I haven't, and I purposefully didn't do it because I knew guys like you would be asking me if I did to try and besmirch my name."

animosity 11-15-2004 05:33 AM

Alcohol: What else do you really need?

School: I need to focuss

Love for myself: I'd rather not destroy this body that I love so much.

Life.

Being alive and being aware of it.
This is all I need to appreciate life for exactly what it is as experienced by my ordinary mind.

"Some kids think that drugs are the only way to feel good in life. I used to think that they knew something I didn't. I can't believe how wrong they are. When I feel tempted to give into peer pressure and start smoking weed or worse, I know exactly what to do. I excuse myself, step inot the bathroom, grab my dick and start jerkin' in. When I blow my load, it's a better feeling thatn any drug could give me.

Compulsive masturbation is my anti drug"

One of my parody commercials. I'm working on getting them online, and I'll start on the parody "Truth" ads soon.

skinnymofo 11-15-2004 12:06 PM

wow a lot of over reactions to weed in this one and the pot thread.
some of the smartest people i know get high every day, and i know you may say thats stupid of them to get high they are intelligent and havent turned any less with the addition of marijuana to their lives.

now back on topic, my anti drug is unemployment, ive been only doing seasonal and drug testing jobs until i get myself into college next fall.
on top of that the specific reason i dont do weed is being out of control of myself. Meaning uncontrollable laughter

ive always felt i had more control of myself with alcohol, i could stop when i am in the perfect spot, for the most part i can act sober when needed and i become less quiet around others.

Alcy is a drug too so i guess there is no "anti drug", but i did prety much give it up for 3 1/2 months while living on mt rainier and then coming home and having no motivation or reason to do anything remotely intoxicating (mustve been the fresh air?).

KinkyKiwi 11-15-2004 12:12 PM

*blink blink* tequila?

Hook us up with the site, mang. Also, to the flight school reason: good answer! I sure as hell wouldn't want a stoner flying a jumbo jet or an F/A-22 (the question is, which would be worse?).

Fate 11-15-2004 02:45 PM

My sister taught me something important as a kid, and I never knew what till I was confronted with smoking weed.
She was the inspiration behind my motivation to conform to an anti-drug. My anti-drug is my head, and I'm using it wisely.

My situation exactly. I don't see how I could even get into alcohol and still stay financially stable. My friends spend $40+ a weekend on alcohol...that's like a week of food for me...that coupled with no desire to get into drugs what so ever.

Jimellow 11-15-2004 03:28 PM

Health and the desire to always be aware of the world around me is my anti-drug.

I try to eat healthily when I can, try to stay in shape, and just generally be active when I can. Drugs and alcohol are at the other end of the spectrum I am working on, and thus I have no desire to use them.

Interesting side note. I've noticed that if you don't drink and it comes up during a discussion, the others are like, "Whoa! Look at that guy." I don't mind this, but it's always interesting to note.

They react as if I am trying to put myself above them by not drinking, which isn't the case at all. I just don't see the benefit, and opt not to, yet I don't hold anyone's drug or alcohol use against them in any way. They live their life, I'll live mine. But just because we have different practices doesn't mean we can't be friends.

Stiltzkin 11-15-2004 03:38 PM

Everything is my anti-drug, including you. Yes, YOU! The person reading this post!

Shades 11-15-2004 04:44 PM

I coudl afford to get high, but why bother? There are several problems with it. The feeling doesn't last, and it doesn't put me any closer to really getting what I want to be happy- closer to friends, a love, family, children, career. Comparing the bliss of real joy like that to the feeling I've gotten on narcotics is a joke. Why waste time with the bullshit?

Cadwiz 11-15-2004 04:56 PM

I kinda dig the whole "gainful employment" thing. It's hard to afford all the fun shit I like to do, if I don't have a job.

Carno 11-15-2004 07:59 PM

I don't understand why people think weed is more of a waste of money or time than alcohol... Both cost a lot yet only last for a few hours.

I used to smoke for the same reason that I drank, to have a good time. Smoking and drinking is fun. And yes, I can have fun without doing either. Plus both substances help break the ice and ease awkward social situations. If you went to a party and everyone was totally sober, do you really think everyone would have as good a time as if everyone were drinking?

I just don't understand the whole "I'm high on life!" answer.. Picture this: you're sitting in your basement with two of your friends on a sunday morning. Yall are just sitting around because there is not much to do. Do you honestly think you'd have a more fun time just sitting there sober as opposed to getting high? I used to have a hell of a good time sitting around on my friends' back porches and in their basements, doing nothing excpet amusing ourselves with dumb shit.

Now, I haven't smoked weed in over two years, and I will never smoke it again, and I'm not trying to get anyone to start smoking, but some of yalls answers just don't make any sense to me.

Lately it's been meditation and Reiki, plus my painting.

A huge dose of tfp can sometimes work, in a pinch :)
